Spot Nix or Arthur or Both shopping with Lilac not in the cart, and she's got a little basket for herself. Nix 'sends her off' to get the carrots that are like two meters away, or asks her to carry the 'milk' (its a mini bottle of cream). Should they not bring Her Majesty's basket she either needs to go in the cart of they need to be prepared for a three-year-old's fury. She likes to do stuff, she likes to be helpful. She's a do-er. If she isn't doing she's vandalising. Just ask Thomas Wayne's antique Aston.

While Nix loves to cook and make food for Arthur, particularly his favourites that she knows at least ninety-percent of the time he'll actually eat, she can't actually make him his favourite sandwich, a Cubano. Made up of mostly different cuts of pork, it would be an impossible feat for Nix to make given that the smell of cooking pork resembles... the not-so-pleasant aura inside Irene's car while she and Wilder...you know. Unpleasant.
Anyway, while Nix can't physically make her man his preferred sandwich nor indeed be really around one that's being made or has recently been made... she can surprise order it for him when she's out of the house. And she does.
Now that Nix works with Oswald and part-owns The Iceberg Lounge, she's out some evenings through a month. She doesn't show up at every evening the Lounge is open because there isn't exactly a lot for her to do now that it's functioning. When she is out of the house, however, and Arthur's home with the children, she knows he's quite likely to feed the kids but not himself. This is where the Cubano comes in. She door-dashes him one from La Cocina and demands no delivery person be seen for added 'mystery'.
The door goes, the door opens, there's a fresh-made little sandwich waiting for Arthur on the doorstep. It's his dinner, and he'll enjoy it. Nix sends him a little heart emoji when she receives the delivery notif. The 'ghost Cubano' makes an appearance now semi-often.

Nix is extremely protective, nigh-possessive of their children's freedom and their ability to actually be children. And it stands to reason as she herself lost all semblance of her own life and her own freedom at such a young age. Despite Grant honestly doing the right thing in keeping her home and trying to give her everything she needed to heal and get better so she could eventually re-join society, Nix never did heal. She had to be kept downstairs so she didn’t throw things or herself off the mezzanine in the house, she wasn’t able to just be on her own because either she wasn’t physically able to take care of herself or her own bodily functions, or she was just too much of a risk to be let alone. She and Arthur's children obviously don’t have to deal with what she did, and Nix’ll destroy the entire city before ever letting them experience anything remotely like it.
Choice and liberty and any feasible allusion to such are big things for her, moreso than ‘normal’ because she had that completely stolen from her before she even knew who she was. She has no identity, she has no semblance of society, she has no place and she is only what people make her. And in all of this she’s self-aware and that makes it kind of like agony, but ultimately unchangeable. It can't be fixed.
All of their children, ideally, will have more personality and self than anyone you’d ever meet. She encourages a level of bold expression that some people might deem a little too much, too chaotic, too much like the kids having too much control. Some perceive her as trying to be more friend than parent to her children, because she doesn't quite know what she's doing. In truth she’s just desperate for them to experience basically anything that means they’ll grow and develop and know what all of life is actually like, and more importantly know themselves as they should be, even if she never did herself.
It makes her a bit of free-wheeler if you were to compare her parenting style to Arthur's, but that just means she and her husband work effectively to balance one another across all spaces. She supports him when opening the gates a little wider when he's unsure, and he knows when to slow her down. There's give and take involved in everything, they're a team always. Most importantly the children are loved loudly, surrounded by love, and they’re safe. They have the means to bloom if you will, make all their choices themselves, and she’s keen to take advantage of that... to a degree that doesn't just drain all the blood from Arthur's face. It’s so sacred to her.

The original Degraves family home in the suburbs outside of Gotham is the quintessential picket fence dream. While he had his family Grant made enough to buy a place big enough to grow into, should he and Irene come to want more children. As it happened they were happy as they were —and, like her daughter, Irene didn't find pregnancy to be a picnic—, but they also never really got the chance to finalise that decision.
Grant now lives mostly out of an apartment in the city near GCPD Headquarters, though if he has his grandchildren, it's likely that he stays with them at the original family home. It's not as much as a haunted house or mausoleum as the locals would have you believe, even if it isn't permanently lived-in anymore.
It does stand, however, as something of a shrine to the Degraves' old lives, or the life that should have been before Riktor elected to literally blew it up. Only one room is off-limits now that Grant has the children stay, and that's he and Irene's bedroom. He himself sleeps in the spare.
Arthur and Nix's children very much have their father's gentle nature, even if they have their mother's feisty curiosity. This means that things, even treasured heirlooms are safe with the kids in the house. Safe from breakages, that is. Both Evelyn and Lilac tend to have sticky fingers, particularly when it comes to anything in Nix's old bedroom, in which they sleep whenever they stay with Grant. Their little brother sleeps in what was his uncle Wilder's old room. Both are decked out for children still, since Grant never moved a single thing after the car bomb.
First to find its way home to the Fleck house was one of Nix's old beanie babies. The black cat is now proudly owned by the two girls. Several other objects have gone 'missing' from the Degraves family home, mostly from Nix's childhood bedroom, but not solely so.
Arthur, too, has taken up the habit of nabbing little things here and there. One of his earliest interactions with his father-in-law ended with him taking several of Nix's baby photos for himself, and most recently he brought a children's book of Irene's home. To this day the Fleck's are still plucking little pieces of the Degraves history as keepsakes, or indeed hopeful reminders for Nix, whose memory of her old life is almost entirely blank.
The objects, including a photograph of herself and Wilder on her seventh birthday which she still cannot look at, provide little flashes for her, and jog some otherwise stubborn memories out of their hiding places. It isn't solely for the klepto thrill of stealing that her family members claim little pieces for their own. It's for connection, and to bring her little pieces of her life she otherwise lost entirely. Nix's whole personhood is built on grief, and a more than clouded memory due to PTSD and other piled traumas. Her family, even down to the toddlers, are trying to help her see through those clouds, even if it's only for a second.
It hurts her, yes, and sometimes doesn't even work at all, but she treasures these little things, each in their own way. They're a broader look at life for her, and added depth to a personhood she otherwise doesn't have at all. And nothing is ever actually stolen anyway. Grant knows exactly where each thing is, and why they're where they are... arguably they're back in their rightful place. It comforts him in many ways, too.

While you don’t look at Nix and think ‘chef’ as an immediate response, she is actually pretty good at cooking and baking. Baking-wise it’s mostly cookies and fairy cakes etc because both Evelyn and Lilac jump at the idea of baked treats sitting waiting for them on the breakfast bar. What she cooks is largely home versions of the same foods she and Arthur would get in restaurants or to takeaway.
Arthur finds going out to eat somewhat stressful due to the numerous allergies that could kill him in a second (even if Nix keeps on average three EpiPens on her person daily - go on,  ask her where they are), but does know it’s something Nix really enjoys doing and so largely takes it on the chin when they treat themselves to eating out.
That being said, Nix is fully aware of the anxiety that goes into it, and so has taken it upon herself to recreate his favourite dishes and his usual orders so they can both eat the food they enjoy without any of the worry. She obviously knows for a fact there’s nothing on the premises that could hurt him, and so he knows when she makes him something that it’s safe and only full of love. With Nix’s absolutely terrifying memory,  she’s able to recreate his orders almost to a T, while having every dish still be a more personal take each time.
Now, Arthur is the quintessential 'house husband' given even the slightest glimpse of a chance, but Nix’s love language is doing, and giving, so it’s a huge part of how she tells him she loves him without just out-right saying it. Whether her husband’s sensitive stomach allows him to enjoy what she’s made on any given day is another story, but the thought and work put into it remains.

The partnership between Oswald and Nix and all of their collective work came to fruition on December 31st 2023, with the new and vastly improved Iceberg Lounge opening its doors for New Years on the South-West coast of Midtown. It's grand opening blasted records held by any previous club in the city and, with the vast public interest borne from Nix's colossal online presence, across the country.
Arguably declared a pinnacle of Gotham's most modern architecture, the enormous building juts up from the ground as a monolithic steel and glass shard, resembling a broken iceberg adrift, as its name would suggest. Those more keen to conserve the city's more historical architecture would argue that on the seafront it's an eyesore, and shouldn't have passed any legal planning permissions... no one knows if it even actually did. Both Oswald and Nix would argue that the gigantic glass berg 'breaking through' the old neoclassical industrial building that stood there abandoned for years, is in fact in-keeping with the waterfront aesthetic — even with some further creativity tacked on.
Tumblr media
Further adding to the light pollution around it, the Iceberg Lounge glows blue from within. Nix is fairly certain you could spot it from space if you were looking hard enough. Few complaints have made it to the district on the disruption caused by the spotlights that sway whenever the Lounge is open, too, but with the fact that no Gothamite has ever actually seen the sky on account of smog and pollution anyway, none of these arguments are likely to ever come to fruition. That's without even noting the Lounge's protection from the Court of Owls behind the city's scenes. Both Nix and Oswald have tight ties to those of that highest society.
Similar to its unmissable exterior, the interior of the Lounge is an amassed expression of eclectic colours and sharp edges, illusions and light shows. Two dance floors make up the ground floor, aptly named Antarctica (the larger) and Arctic (the smaller or the two), though typically it's Antarctica that the majority of the public gains entry to. Arctic is more prone to house private events, or the more elite a class of clientele.
ANTARCTICA .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A large wraparound bar lines the outermost margins of the dancefloor. Paired with it are small round tables at standing height lit from beneath and appearing to be carved from ice themselves, to match with the rest of the vast room. The bar mirrors the mezzanine floor above, built from Romanesque stone pillars and adorned in deep green vines and grey marble. For those of a more sensitive constitution, the mezzanine with its seating room and tables, and two hole-in-the-wall bars for convenience, is probably a more comfortable way to spend your time, looking down on the colourful array of illusions and moving bodies below.
Below, beneath a relative kaleidoscope of blue, purple, and pink lights, the dancefloor itself is made to looks as if it were a frozen lake of colossal size. The aforementioned 'ice tables' litter its outer margins with the bar, and modest nooks mark points of semi-rest, framed by similar pillars as the mezzanine above and typically housing art pieces, most of which have been picked by Oswald (sculptures mostly), but the famous Blue Boy painting donated by Nix was also displayed in one such similar nook for its debut to the public. Now the Blue Boy resides elsewhere on the property, available to view by appointment only.
ARCTIC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A purple wash swathes the smaller of the two dancefloors, but Arctic doesn't exactly boast any modesty. Here you'll find hired dancers or other such acts 'encased' in faux ice blocks scattered around the space. A long purple bar lines one end, and there's little seating provided unless requested. The sharper lines and longer shadows, along with the exposed ceiling above reflects the more industrial vision of the former Iceberg Lounge, before it was swallowed by the sea with the rest of Downtown.
The Arctic's floor, unlike the her larger sister, is deep slate black. Fewer illusions baffle the mind here, too, and typically it is a quieter, 'classier' feel than the bass pounding in Antarctica. Servers wear black throughout both dancefloors, but in Arctic, the uniform is stricter, designed so that employees blend with the shadows and don't themselves become spectacles. Less personality is granted those working an Arctic shift, to allow for any private functions to be the sole focus.
ELSEWHERE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two main corridors guide a visitor through the Iceberg Lounge. One is far kinder to the eye and mind than the other, framed by stone pillars, that motif carried through in some subtle or less-so way throughout, and doused in grey-purple light. The other, washed in pink and blue and lined with similar pillars, boasts a hall of illusions; the glossy 'ice' floor giving way to broken shards and foggy, whorled reflections, textured walls and the lights in sync with any music sounding. Two entry-way corridors were built to avoid any possible lawsuit made by those too drunk to understand that they didn't actually trip on any real obstacle. Both of these entryways guide you toward Antarctica, which you have to enter to access Arctic.
A further few rooms are for hire in the remnants of the old neoclassical industrial building for private, less raucous functions. While the aesthetic the rest of the Lounge boasts so loudly is indeed carried through the the historical side of the building, it is typically muted, and touched with some gentle glamour. Glass chandeliers hang from large domed ceilings, and floors made of slab stone are a far more gentle welcome than the rest of the place.
It is also on within the historical end of the Lounge that Oswald and Nix's offices are situated.

Despite the seemingly common opinion in Gotham that social media ain’t shit, any and all aspects of such Nix has managed to claim as her own… possibly because there’s apparently a vast majority of her peers that remain stuck living in the eighties, as she’d say, so she generally has a monopoly on the market. Even if that wasn’t the case, however, Nix has proven a popular talking point and someone the masses wish to follow every step of the way since she was a child. It’s just that now her audience has changed from paper-reading, gossiping fear mongerers, to twitch chat, insta followers, and onlyfans subs.
Skizm was originally something of an income, perhaps moreso at the beginning when Nix actually did receive a percentage of the streaming services profits at the end of each shoot. Originally Skizm was the more traditional ‘torture porn, red room’ streams, meaning that donations were made live, specifically for the people being shown. Which meant that, even with Riktor’s rather skewed views, the ‘artists’, of which Nix was the most popular, received what they were ‘owed’ according to him. Back in the day Nix mostly spent her money on a little amount of food, the odd hotel room if she was feeling fancy, and drugs. On top of his entrepreneurship, Riktor was also the head of a drug ring, dealing at lesser prices to his Skizm minions. Occasionally Nix would sell some herself, too, for a little extra bump of finances each week. Later on, coke became the only currency the Skizm victors were dealing with. That and free body mods, hence her teeth and numerous tattoos.
She still has the internet in a chokehold, and is certainly deemed a ‘mainstream’ internet celebrity now. Nix is a household name through North America, and is known worldwide too, for good or for bad. With Skizm being a growing ‘business’ at the time, Nix has been watched in every country on earth for more than a few years. She very smartly, once given the freedom and the resources, turned that infamy into viable (and, frankly, legal) profit and income.
INSTAGRAM.
Beginning with her instagram, Nix collected a good few million followers after making one single post, proving to those outside her ‘bubble’ that a large majority were simply waiting with baited breath for her to make her social media return. This, of course, opened the door to her receiving sponsorship deals, largely from more ‘edgy’ or ‘quirky’ companies as a means to relate to her assumed audience. While this wasn’t the most stable source of income, it was her first real one, and she treasured and nursed it from the beginning and now currently boasts over 35million followers and multiple sponsorship deals from various companies from gaming, to men’s grooming (m.anscaped is her most loyal sponsor, don’t even worry about it, but do ask if you want a t-shirt), to beauty and fashion.
With her uniquely high engagement rates, Nix could ask for anywhere between £55.4K – £100K for one single post + one single story if she didn’t have the outside reputation that she does. One top of the profit a company will make by sponsoring her, there is also an assumed loss for associating with a literal mass killer —even if her reputation is slowly turning in Mrs. Wayne first and foremost, thanks to the unseen hands of the Court— so Nix charges far less, and is rarely paid more than £25k for her sponsors. Realistically, that number can go much lower, as she supports smaller business too. It’s a range, never a settled amount.
ONLYFANS.
Her onlyfans subscription is $14.99 a month, with her number of subscribers jumping up and down rather consistently with each month as it goes, but she generally makes anywhere between $15k and $50k a month, depending on where she lands in the top 10% of OF earners. And she is always in the top 10%… if not the top 5%. This may seem like a lot, but with so-called ‘down’ months (her pregnancies, and the fact that she has lessened the amount of collabs she makes with other female creators more recently), she definitely notices any dip in earnings…
TWITCH.
…Which is where her Twitch comes into play. With a subscription fee of $4.99, she averages a steadier little nest each month if she consistently streams her three days a week (tues, thurs, sat). However, a big bulk of twitch subscribers are Prime subs, which are free, or gifted to random viewers each stream. This keeps her sub number up, but doesn’t necessarily flood the bank account with the thousands it ‘should’. Small donations are made throughout each stream, however, which are always welcome, and are usually made by common, recognisable names in chat. These can range from $1.50 to a couple hundred. She's had more than a handful of four-figure gifts, too.
She is also a rare streamer in that she actually pays her mods a percentage of what’s made each stream, as her chat specifically is known to be tempestuous and in dire need of those moderators’ hard work.
MERCH.
With all of the above, it's no surprise that Nix created her own merch. Simple drops of t-shirts with the phrase 'Live, Laugh, Lobotomise' on them two or so years ago has since transcended into an entire clothing line, branded under the same phrase that was the foundation for her success. LLL, or Triple L is now a full store, typically making drops of merchandise four set times each year, a drop for each season. Since its humble beginnings Nix herself has created several infamous designs of the many: Paul the Alien was the first big design after the initial LLL, her Mother of Three line is also one of her most popular, and most recently her I Used To Be Worse line launched and broke all of her previous records.
Random restocks also occur, which she posts countdowns for across all platforms to ensure that her audience races to the store the second the drop is online in 'limited' numbers. She's very fortunate to have kept and tended to a bulk of absolutely obsessed fans that never fail to buy from her, even if it's the same design but in a new colour. She's aware of the ilk who typically follow her, and tends to play into exactly what she knows they want.
Each drop can make around $25k, depending on how exclusive she makes it. There's usually only a certain set amount of pieces each time, which caps her earnings when they do sell out in 48 hours. If she does just four drops a year, however, that's a guaranteed $100k every 12 months.
Before her own store opened, places like Hot Topic and such would sell unofficial merch, that consistently sold out. She leads trends and starts brand new ones just by taking her kid to school. Knowing this, she applies the same knowledge and perspective across all platforms. She’s on show walking up the street, she’s working when she’s taking a selfie, while she’s killing a man, while she’s texting you back. It’s all work.
BRAND X NIX.
More recently, as of last year, Nix actually was offered the opportunity to partner with a long-term small business sponsor of hers. Unearthly Cosmetics and Nix have been friends since almost the beginning of her real online career, post-Skizm, and they teamed up for the holiday drop of 'Dreamer'. The eye-shadow palette and further make-up collection sold out three times after it's initial release in early November.
It is limited edition and may never be restocked again, thus making it a finite source of income for her, but she so loved the entire process, and so did her fans and countless other make-up enthusiasts around the globe.
Due to Dreamer's success, Nix also worked with the brand on their Valentines mystery box, 'Charmer', which is on its way to selling out a second time since it's initial drop at the beginning of 2024. Both of Nix's collabs have been inspired by her marriage and life with Arthur, which should come as a surprise to no one. Such does make her the perfect partner for both drops, however, due to the romance surrounding their design and making, mostly hand-picked by Nix herself.
THE ICEBERG LOUNGE.
Arguably the biggest addition to her rosta of jobs, the original Lounge is still partially under the ocean, along with the rest of Downtown. Despite FEMA doing their supposed best to flush the sea out of that end of Gotham, the Lounge was near unsalvageable, leading Oswald to commandeer a new space and build The Iceberg Lounge 2.0. He had an unexpected partner in the process in Nix.
Due to Mrs. Wayne's admittedly strained ties to the elite through the Court of Owls, she was assigned Oswald to keep an eye on. Constance's son has never seen eye-to-eye with the Court's ways, and though he has yet to even make an attempt at exposing the nefarious secret society, and is ostensibly of no threat due to his apathy, Jacob Kane and Constance Cobblepot saw fit to have eyes on the man at all times.
Enter: Nix. A prominent business woman in her own right, with ownership of all the above mentioned, she was placed in Oswald's path as a would-be partner. The two do not get along, and yet have somehow built one of the most influential and record-breaking venues in modern history together. The new Lounge's profit margins are grossly bloated in comparison to the last dive Oswald was running. The drugs are still prevalent enough to engage those hooked from all walks of life, but largely the Lounge's design and enrapturing making actually pulls in a large sum of legal profit every single night.
The Lounge operates Friday-Saturday evenings and hosts events on Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday. All visitors must pay a $25 cover charge, on which the house makes a profit after factoring in entertainment and operating expenses. Margins on drinks sold alone verge on 90% every single open night there is, and so you can only imagine the bulk that amasses over time. Operating costs and equipment costs are their highest outgoing, with little in the way of marketing needing to be spent on account of the Court's dirty fingers being all over that for their own sake.
Together Oswald and Nix take home 50% after expenses are paid, splitting that to 25% each. All being well, this could add up to around $300,000 for each of them every year, solely working the math with their two open nights each week. Nix plans on putting this money specifically toward she and Arthur's children's' futures.
TLDR?
The Flecks are doing just fine, and are living comfortably with all of the aforementioned as well as Arthur's Grammy-award-winning music career. They do not have a single dime of Wayne coin. Everything they have they built on their own. It's something Nix is terrifyingly proud of and viscous in protecting. The only help she ever received was from Arthur, who gifted her the freedom to create and build in the way she's done. She does credit him for all of the above. The gift of life and all that comes of it? From her husband.

Though he'd never like to admit it given how let down he was by the last man he in any way valued or admired, Arthur is a massive fan of Simon Whistler, an English media personality and content creator working within the realms of the mysterious, historical, geographical, and biographical.
A relative genius who's always looking to know more, as well as dabble in the occasional conspiracy, Arthur watches every single episode of every show Whistler has created, and rarely misses a new release. Again, he wouldn't admit it, but if you're visiting the Fleck house there's a high chance that one of Whistler's shows is on the television. He's white noise. They re-watch old content. It's a comfort, and Arthur loves learning, and so loves each show. Nix knows this. Nix knows this very well.
Due to her own experience in content creation on platforms like YouTube, she's also well aware as to how hard it is to continuously make a living doing just that. She donates. She donates generously. It's all off her own back and Arthur doesn't even know she does it. He's also unaware of the DMs and emails and 'fanmail' Nix has sent Whistler through the last few years and will likely continue to. She often details just how much her husband loves the content, how important it is to him, and focuses on how it is absolutely paramount that the content doesn't stop or slow. They're mutuals on Insta, and if a video release is late, the poor guy soon knows all about it. She also pays his numerous writers across his shows, as well, so, it's not a bad threat to have.
It might seem strange to some, but ultimately Nix is big on the whole 'pay your content creators' philosophy. Obviously being one of said creators herself has brought her to those ideals. However, her husband's love that he pretends her doesn't have for this one particular creator does rather hone her focus to one specific direction more. She's fine with that because she loves seeing her man happy and his brain expand… so that ultimately he can relay all his knowledge to her, usually naked in bed. Everybody wins.

Today Ivaylo turned one. It's a monumental thing in Nix's life when one of her spawn has their first birthday. Mentally for her it's sort of this milestone that maybe the hardest things she struggled with when it comes to the children are finally in the past, or are soon going to be. She has a little person with her, with thought processes and reactions and she feels like it's a lot less daunting.
It was also a chance to turn the entire ground floor of the Fleck duplex into a soft play. We're talking ball pits, we're talking slides, we're talking baby climbing frames, and dancing lights, gift hunts and balloons and cupcakes and cookies. And family. And pets in party hats.
It's 'big', to some maybe, but it's safe. For her it is so safe because it's from her. She very much struggles in a lot of ways, but her love language has always been doing. And she worries that without that she isn't giving nearly enough and will never be able to. Being able to throw an entire day for someone she loves really is just a means of opening the floodgates from her. Arthur knows this, and that why, even while he's struggling with the day because watching the babies grow up is really daunting for him, he supports her and encourages her and is with her. And she's holding his hand through it and sticking by him to support him too.

See here. Though Hawk is the active service dog in the family, both Yellowcake and Domino undergo much the same training, too. This is more a pragmatic idea of Nix's in case of a scenario where Hawk isn't able to perform his tasks for whatever reason, or is just having a 'day off'. He stays the service dog in the family, but Nix prefers to cover all possible bases.
She tends to lead in the training given that it was her initial idea, but Arthur is obviously a huge part of the process too. He is the charge, after all, even if Nix herself on the sly could probably use, and does unknowingly make use of the dogs' tasking. The training for Yellowcake and Domino is not as extensive as Hawk's was, and they're very rarely on duty and aren't working in most scenarios. They do both have vests just in case, however.
Yellowcake wears a neon collar, either pink or orange, that boldly declares 'I HATE PEOPLE' on account of his nervousness anyway— so the hellhound is used to not being distracted by people or other dogs. He was rescued from Chernobyl, so his early life in isolation factors into a lot. His reactivity is constantly being worked on and improved bit by bit, and he's muzzle-trained. He in particular is typically stuck to Nix like glue and performs some of his trained tasks (guarding mostly, or picking up on heightened stress and sitting on her foot to 'help') without even being asked.
Domino is a little dumber, and obviously quite a bit younger than his brothers, and was adopted via the Puppy Bowl in early 2024. As he gets older he'll be trained to do more but is the least likely to be relied on to perform tasks. He's most likely to enjoy the 'fetch and deliver' jobs around the house. He and the children treat that training like a game every time. He's got the spirit, though.

Nix has mild, yet progressing scoliosis. This means that if you’re looking at her close you’ll notice that one hip appears slightly higher than the other and misaligned, and she ‘pops’ more on one side. While it isn’t cause for major concern with her, and for a long time she didn't even know that she had it, it has long been the reason for the mild chronic pain she suffers. She assumed, not too surprisingly, that her years spent fighting to the death and sustaining injury for the enjoyment of the masses was cause for the discomfort. While in some cases for long-term injury and pain this is true, the scoliosis has been present and not been noted for years.
It was Arthur who first noticed the subtle curve of her spine, and the fact that her right hip 'pops' or hikes higher than the left when he looks at her. He didn't sit on this for very long, but did take time to note that his wife actually suffered discomfort as well at the curve. That fact then encouraged him to take her to a doctor for diagnosis, which she hated. Now, semi-often, they're seen near NewYork-Presbyterian Och Spine Hospital, where Nix receives care and check-ups on her condition. She hates this, too, on account of her medical trauma. It's worse, in her mind, than the actual condition she's suffering. But it's obviously right for her to keep in check.
Again, she deals with it without even thinking about it, because her tolerance for pain is second-to-none and it’s her normal. It does make running long distances tricky due to pain and some amount of stiffness. If you notice, she tends to do the horror movie monster walk after her prey as opposed to any actual prolonged chase. She does herself a favour by doing this.
In terms of the every day, Nix copes well enough. She does have a hip seat when she's carrying her children... or any young enough to actually fit the hip seat. This removes some amount of the strain on her back and provides a little extra storage for her 'weapons', as she'll say. She's also only supposed to do low-impact exercise, but given that she's quietly obsessed with keeping her body looking a certain way and feeling a certain way, she doesn't adhere to this 'rule'.
So while it doesn’t outwardly affect her life or the majority of her ability to use her body, she has it. It aches. It strains. She manages.
