little snippet because i said i was gonna talk about underhill academy yesterday and i didnt:

He put the ice cream bowl on the floor next to him. He didn’t dare sit in his dad’s chair, even when he wasn't in the house, as if his dad could sense that he had sat in it. It was unrealistic that his dad would know, but it had kept him safe. Made him feel safer.

He jumped when the phone rang. He didn’t have his own, and he was surprised that the old house phone even worked, so he was always a bit off guard when it rang. He rushed to grab his bowl and put it away before answering.

“Hello?” His voice cracked a little, and he licked his lips. There was silence on the other side before his sister's voice came through.

“Fiona, are you watching Honey, I Shrunk The Kids again?” Gwen asked, and Finney couldn't tell if she was amused by the situation.
