Headcanon

Valentino's demon form is, as most sinners', symbolic of aspects of his human life. His red smoke and cigarette holder are callbacks to his opium addiction, as are his thin figure and overt sexuality. Frequent opium consumption can lead to a loss of appetite which is why many addicts lose a lot of weight. It also disturbs mental stability. The main benefits of smoking opium are pain relief and a feeling of deep comfort, often accompanied by erotic fantasies.

His moth body is a reference to the waterpipe smoking caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland. Also, the fact that moth larva eat silk and wool fabrics is a metaphor for Valentino's line of work which boils down to him "getting people naked".

Another connection to the moth larva is that he had to live "in the closet" as a pansexual until his death. Only in hell is he able to experience the next stage of his metamorphosis.

Headcanon

Val may not be as intelligent as Vox or other demons but he is very cunning. He has incredible intuition when it comes to finding and triggering other people's weak spots. His ability to read personalities is what makes him such a successful charmer. Val senses wants and desires, but also worries and insecurities, and he knows exactly how to use them to his advantage.
