In Damascus studios, film cameras begin to roll again.
A conflict that has killed half a million people has taken a heavy toll on the film and television industries. DAMASCUS: Actors in flowing robes are filming a television series on a long-disused film set near Damascus that has mud buildings, palm trees, alleyways, and camels. The creators believe the project is part of a slow resurgence of their industry. The film and television industries, like most other sectors of the Syrian economy, have been heavily damaged by a conflict that has killed half a million people, displaced millions, and devastated large swaths of the nation since 2011. During the conflict, any films or TV shows produced by Syrian production firms were rarely purchased by clients in the Gulf and abroad who were formerly a significant part of their market. Actors and directors relocated to other countries. The studios were quiet.

However, combat around Damascus ceased last year following a series of huge government offensives, indicating a wider expansion in state authority throughout the nation, and Syrian studios are resuming operations. According to Ziad Al-Rayes, the chairman of Syria's television producers' union, filming may now be done comfortably and successfully. "There are four seasons here." "There are mountains, desert, valleys, and snow here," he explained. He stated that filming in Syria is less expensive than elsewhere. The television series being created outside Damascus is about a Sufi preacher named Muhiy Al-Din bin Arabi and is situated in mediaeval Makkah, Islam's holiest city in modern-day Saudi Arabia. According to the makers, it will air in the United Arab Emirates. According to the producers' organisation, television programmes are also being produced for transmission in Lebanon, as well as in Syria's two closest allies, Russia and Iran. The film set was part of a big studio property that had been neglected for the majority of the war and was in disarray. In the same studio, an adjacent set is fashioned after an old Roman city. مسلسل الكبير اوي 6 fled the country during the war to perform in neighbouring Arab countries. Qays Al-Sheikh Najib, 41, is a well-known actor who is now filming in Syria for the first time in eight years, portraying a photojournalist in a new series called A Safe Distance, which examines how the Syrian war affects individuals. "Syrian performers have always attempted to retain their good level, and they have been able to maintain their level in the Arab world," he remarked.
