Writober day 6 - Spirit world
// I have yet to get into full details in regards to Morty’s relation to the Spirit world, in the mean time what people should know is that:
Morty has been there once- when he dies it won’t be his first visit to the place;
The incident took place during his years of forced hiatus, after the accident that led to the death of a trainer- so in between FR/LG - HGSS events. It was in his very first visit to the Sinnoh region, where he managed to obtain his own Dusknoir- by evolving his Dusclops. During his time in the region he was able to apply some of his trainning method, as well as give a contest a shot at- both of which would turn out to go awfully wrong and backfire to him;
During the contest: Halfway through his performance- Morty lost control over Dusknoir, and the pokemon lashed out at one of the judges- putting the man’s life at risk as he was very close into dragging him away. Needless to say how this led into him being banned from participating in any contests, for a long time- but this incident would prove itself to be the first sign of what things were about to come;
A few days later, the fateful incident happened- while he was out in one of routes camping, all by himself his Dusknoir managed to break free from the pokeball- and drag Morty to the spirit world during his sleep;
His reaction to it isn’t THAT important for now, but be aware that- he felt welcomed in that realm... As though he belonged to there. This sensation has been haunting him ever since;
What felt like hours in that world, had actually been 3 days in the world of the living. It should be noted that he was travelling all by himself, so really- no one noticed he had gone missing for this long;
“Ever since he had been dragged into this world the first time by Dusknoir, the pokemon has always remained as a grimm reminder that he could return to it- his very own grimm reaper- his own exit door from this plane of existance.
He is always taunting him with this opportunity- to try and find his place amongst the dead instead within the livings.”
With those out of the way:
Warning for: Suicide and death mentions.
Obviously- the way Morty dies depends on the verse’s plot:
For the majority of the shipping verses - including the main one that is tied with @soulchased: He gets to spend a long life by his partner’s side, they both die old- hopefully in a peaceful manner without any suffering. It’s pretty standard honestly- they both go onto the afterlife together.
Now for Morty’s verse with my Lance ( @wxtaru ): His death was a combination of various aspects- starting with his reunion with his supposed lover from their teen years (a period in his life that he doesn’t remember much of, but bought into the other’s words- as soon as he realised the opportunity of getting together with someone. It’s important to point out how- when Lance approaches him about it, he finds himself in a down point in his life.), that quickly evolved into having his life completely ruined- by someone who he is so devoted and loyal to. Lance becomes the sole reason Morty is still around (at some point in their relationship- he was forced to cut ties with Eusine and even the kimono girls. He will definetely lose his job at the League as well.)- but eventually, it just becomes too much for him- he becomes self aware of his current state and it is the final straw for him.
The cause of his death: allowing Dusknoir to finally carry him to the Spirit world.
However, it isn’t the end of his businesses in the world of the livings- he may have died... But that doesn’t mean he wishes to stay alone in the afterlife, after all this entire time- he still is in love with Lance.
He wants Lance there with him- it is this wish, that turns him into a poltergeist, whose goal is to drag his lover to this world.
For context: By the time of these events Lance is no longer the League’s champion (in fact since they both start having this affair), married to his arranged fianceé- and are trying to have their child, on top of him finally taking charge over his clan’s duties.
He is completely oblivious about what happened to Morty- for him the guy just went missing, without the intention of returning- since he left everything behind in his appartment. His disappearance is around the same time his wife announced her pregnancy.
Despite not really believing in the idea and concept of ghosts/spirits/etc, Lance will be haunted by his former lover- and will be driven to madness. Forcing him to distance himself from his family, in order to try and conceal his image. This will continue, until Lance faces the same fate Morty did.
It all culminates with him killing himself, at the same day his child is born. He used a similar method, and died just like his father- ironic for someone who has always been so vocal about his hatred towards the guy.
It is a gruesome way, and a familiar image for Lance’s relatives- obviously in order to maintain his image in pristine conditions the family makes up a story to cover up the suicide and try to keep it out of the mainstream media’s attention for as long as possible.
Returning to Morty...
Lance doesn’t notify about his disappearance, instead this is only discovered weeks- maybe an entire month later (sooner depending if he hadn’t been already fired from his gym leader position). When it became obvious that he hadn’t showed up, in a long time.
That’s when Eusine, the kimono girls and the rest of the League were made aware of it- through the media. There really isn’t much left of Morty, since almost everything he had- was broken/destroyed/not salvagable at all. All of his pokemon- that hadn’t followed him into the Spirit world, were released back into the wild.
But not all was lost: Zuki got to keep his scarf alongside with the golden pin that she had given him all those years ago. And Eusine got to keep whatever was left of his cassette tapes collection.
Morty’s disappearance will forever be shroudded in mystery- nothing will ever be brought into the light. And Lance’s sudden death will also raise a few speculations/theories from the peers.

Gal.ar is the only region that Morty visits, in which he won’t catch any pokemon. Not because he isn’t interested on them, but after the whole trouble he was put through after trying to enter the region with his Misdreavus, he most definetely became wary - and would rather not risk getting in any further problems for taking any of the native species back to Johto.
While there, Morty will be stuck with a gala.rian Meowth which is a rental pokemon handed to him by the pokemon League.
Also while there - luckily for him, he was barely recognized by anyone in there. He isn’t someone who brags nor brings up the fact that he is a gym leader, so really - to know that fact about him the trainer needs some kind of previous knowledge about him. Although I’m certain there were a few times he brought that up with at least one or two people, and even then he had to go about it as: ‘You’ll have to take my word for this’.
It is very unlikely that he will come back to the region, after everything he went through.
On a brighter note: Around this time in his life, he is starting to learn to be more appreciative of himself. He still holds resentments for his powers, and everything else but he is starting to accept it as being part of him - and who he is.

Mainverse’s timeline
// I don’t remember ever laying one down, just to help me and others locate when or where things happen. This should also help us set in any future relationship verse!
Bare in mind this is just to showcase Morty’s story and events, this will only go up to the B2/W2 events as I still have to write and discuss what comes next. This post will be updated in posterity, once that is done.
Bare in mind: I don’t follow this strictly for any other verses, things will alter accordingly to the plot estabilished via plotting
Reminder that Morty is being based off the Soul silver events, Ethan is the protagonist. Morty comes from the ORAS universe, so mega evolutions do exist- however outside of Kalos it isn’t well known. I don’t take LGPE into consideration.
Age 0- 6
Early life, years of joy and happiness while under the care of his parents;
His powers finally kick in, they come in the form of a powerful flu that almost kills Morty;
His eyes’ color change from a dark brown to a vivid and bright purple one;
The abuse from his parents begins later that year.
Age 10
Gets a trainer card as his birthday gift from his parents, gets his very first taste of the wildlife;
The very first pokemon used by him: Dunsparce;
First wild pokemon caught: Gastly (which is kept a secret from his parents);
Age 13
7 years into dealing with the abuse on a daily basis;
Flees right after finding out his father is a clairvoyant just like him;
The start of his journey- at the time all that he has with him is Gastly and Dunsparce.
Age 16

3 years into being a homeless teen;
Technically speaking, he trains his pokemon illegally (expired trainer card, methods of trainning that aren’t approved by the League, etc.);
*In his plot involving Lance: This is when he meets him. Although Lance never gave him his real name, nor did he ever gave him one to begin with;
He has his very first and only vision of the future;
Seemingly his brash and unfriendly behavior is gone- now replaced with at first nothing, it takes awhile for his new moodiness to flourish on him.
Age 17
Affords his card’s renewall;
He is influenced by Eusine and the kimono girls (more specifically Zuki), to apply himself for the gym leader position which has just recently opened for applicants.
Age 18
Intense trainning begins- studying ghost types all while learning and getting himself invested in the city’s folklore and traditions;
Shortly before turning 19, applies himself for the position of gym leader in the city.
Age 19
Claims the gym leader title, after defeating the city’s choices;
The process of recovery/healing begins, moves into an appartment;
The gym isn’t open for any challengers due to maintenance and repairs needed to be done before becoming officially operating for the first few months (it opens before he turns 20 however);
Meet and greets his colleagues (with the exception of Bugsy, Whitney and Falkner who still had to officially claim it for themselves. Jasmine had yet to announce the type’s change in her gym);
Age 20
OR/AS + FR/LG events take place;
It is a slow year for the majority of it, very few challengers came by;
Witness a meteors shower (refference to the Delta episode);
Accompanies on the radio, Red and Blue’s League challenge;
Due to all the stress he is going through at the moment, his hair goes from golden blond into a platinum one;
Incident with the Hex maniac- former employee takes place.
Ages 21
Lance takes over the champion position, Agatha announces her retirement Lorelei is dropped from her Elite member position. 3 new spots open at the Indigo Plateau. Kanto and Johto Leagues are merged together.
1 year into running his gym;
Forced into a hiatus: Accident that led to tthe death of a trainer, Mismagius is prohibited from staying out of her pokeball;
Travels to Sinnoh and Hoenn;
Whitney and Bugsy join the pokemon League as Azalea and Goldenrod’s gym leaders while he was absent.
Age 22
Major overhaul/renewal of his gym’s maze begins;
Morty is looking a lot healthier- his looks have improved as well. His hair is slowly returning to its natural, golden blond hair color.
Falkner joins the League as Violet city’s gym leader, officially replacing his father;
Ages 23-24
The maze is completed just in time for the HG/SS events;
Eusine returns to Ecruteak city, after rumors in regards to the Legendary beasts’ presence and sightings within the Burned tower’s ruins;
Ethan sets out from Newbark town, Morty is challenged and awards both Silver and the protagonist with the fog badge;
Receives the news about Ethan becoming the champion;
Suicune’s capture takes place, Morty finds himself distancing himself from Ethan out of respect for his best friend.
Ages 24-27
Pre-B2/W2, travels to Unova on his own;
The League publicly announces the World tournament, preparations for the event start;
Meanwhile in Johto, the League is coming up with new safety measures- becoming even stricter in their selection process. After the Team Rocket ressurgence, new flaws in the organisation had become apparent and evident;
Age 28* standard for interactions
PWT takes place, Morty travels back to Unova this time bringing Eusine with him as his special guest;
Stays in Unova a little longer after the tournament’s end, before returning to Johto and resume his gym leader duties;
Currently he is saving up money for his next travel, his eyes are on the Kalos region for the time being.

Mega evolution fiasco

Here is one thing that should be clear about this: Although it seems like mega evolution has been around for quite sometime, I take it as something that not many people (from outside of Kalos and Hoenn [taking ORAS into consideration]) are aware of- nor know much about it.
I don’t take LGEP’s events into consideration for this post.
This means that the ones who are only likely to know anything about such thing, are the ones found within the scientific field, nobles, or higher ups from the League (those who have way more frequent contact with the other regions).
With those out of the way:
Morty first heard of Mega evolutions by the word of mouth from others, however there was no evidence that could support such claims. Needless to say how his initial reactions to the whole thing were negative, seeing it as nothing more than just a scheme to steal people’s money.
He would only get his very first taste for the whole thing- when Blaine, of all people- was the first gym leader within the Tojoh region to get his hands in it. Despite witnessing it, he really wasn’t sold into the idea right away.
In fact, it wouldn’t be until much later into his travel through Kalos that Morty would finally embrace it (after everything he has gone through- something good had to come out of it, right?). The process of getting the keystone alongside with the Gengarite might have been made it easier, because of his gym leader position- which in itself should prove more than enough about his bond with Gengar.
However, no one could have possibly predicted what would happen next.
Due to Morty’s eternal state of weakness (call back to his fateful encounter with a Shedinja’s back that has stolen a good chunk of his life energy)- the mega evolution requires a certain amount of energy, that Morty is unable to provide.
Meaning he can’t keep it for too long- otherwise he will just straight up faint.
If he doesn’t black out, then he will be way too weak to even move a single inch of his body.
The mega evolution definetely felt like a much needed boost to his bond with Gengar, but it came with a great cost for him. Which is exactly why he didn’t stop using it altogether, not only that- but it is a key game changing feature in a battle. Needless to say how Morty is extremely careful while using this technique.
However, because of it all Morty really doesn’t see the mega evolution in the most positive note. A part of him regrets ever seeking it out, because as it turns out- there is no such thing as letting go of it all.
For Gengar there were a few side effects left on him, from having this faulty process of mega evolution.
Gengar’s behavior has become even more erratic- although he still fully listens to and follows Morty’s commands. Gengar has gained some noticeable traits most commonly found in wild ones- territorial, even his pranks have become even more dangerous to other pokemon alike, etc.
As soon as Morty faints- Gengar will lose control, and go beserk- attacking whatever pokemon finds in his way. Only stopping when he is knocked out and unable to fight.
All things said above ARE kept in secrecy. No one else, besides those close to him are meant to know or be aware of such thing.

Clairvoyance - Morty’s powers in details.
Origins of his powers l Clairvoyant =/= Psychic=/= Aura user l The basics on Morty Pt1 + 2

Here I will be getting more in-depth on how his powers actually work, how he is able to find things and whatnot.
With clairvoyancy, Morty is capable of highjacking any living being’s sight under a certain radius and see exactly what they are looking at in that moment. He isn’t capable of taking control over his host, and how clear he is seeing things heavily relies on the state of the state the host’s sight is (e.g.: blurred sight, the way an insect sees things, the limited colors sight of an animal, etc.).
Morty can’t highjack those that don’t have eyes or are blind;
He can listen to the same things his host does, he doesn’t feel nor read his host’s thoughts and feelings;
Should one pry his eyes open while he is doing his search, they will find his pupils going all over the place at a very high speed- with them alternating between being spun or shrunken at an inhuman speed. Morty is completely out of himself, while he is at it;
It is no wonder why Morty will always have a slight headache after using his powers;
For the most part, the host will not feel anything while having the sight highjacked- this can change depending on who they may be- This is open to discussion.
The radius of how far he can go with his powers is about 600 hectares, around the month of October the radius tends to triple its range. Reminder that Morty is considered to be a rookie/weak clairvoyant, all due to him having a chunk of his energy/essence permanently stolen by a wild Shedinja. If he were at his full potential, the radius would be MUCH larger.
Morty can also sense exactly what he is looking for, this helps him to have a better sense of direction or a lead to where he is supposed to be looking for. So he won’t be overwhelming himself, while in his search and not waste essential energy.
Morty compares the process of switching views to tuning into different radio stations/transmissions.
Highjacking ins’t something that works all the time. Besides what has been already mentioned above, there are many other supernatural things that can cause the ability to falter. From psychics and their abilities, to even where Morty finds himself in- this is also open for discussion.
In addition Morty’s own emotional state is another huge influence to the success rate. Fear, nervousness, anger, sadness and even being cheerful is enough to cause the success rate of it to drop significally.

// Side events that I consider to be interesting to point out as they are relevant, and Morty may point out/recognize:
Hoenn: Weather disaster follows what is seen in the Emerald version, Delta episode is canon ( 10 days countdown from the manga is a thing).
Morty can be considered that he is from the ORAS universe- as in: there exists Mega evolutions, he would only become aware of such thing much later in his life. Steven is Hoenn’s champion, Wallace is only known as the 8th gym-leader and top coordinator.
A verse where mega evolutions don’t exist would follow Emerald’s events.
Kanto: Red and Blue are the kids who were involved in the Gen 1 events, Leaf doesn’t exist- or at least isn’t a known figure.
Sinnoh: Follows Platinum’s events.
Unova: Black’s version events + Black 2 ones.
Kalos: X version’s events.
Alola: Ultra sun events.

It is obvious but still important to highlight is that Gym’s trials team =/= Team that is used while off-duty.
The post which had the teams is old and lost within my old blog so we will go with these.

Truth be said I always forget that game exists- simply because the whole game’s plot was much better executed in the remixes. They are the “definitive” versions of the gen 2 after all.
As stated in my about page- The pc that Morty recognizes is Ethan, they are also the one who captured Suicune.
Lyra is meant to be Ethan’s childhood friend- the one Morty never got to personally meet.
Crys doesn’t exist- or isn’t a well known trainer. Morty doesn’t know her or has ever heard of such name before!
Obviously for interactions with other blogs: I will make Morty recognize them as the P.C., if your muse happens to follow that plot.

Somewhere after the Gen 1 events, Morty was approached by the interpol in order to help with the investigations to find Giovanni.
Morty without a shadow of a doubt- refused the offer.
Considering how Morty has had his own runs into Team Rocket during his youth, it is easy to see how he doesn’t trust on the Interpol.
After the HGSS events- he was approached yet again by them.
Now he uses what happened there as a justification for his refusal to form any ties to the police.
In his eyes joining them, will only lead to him and Ecruteak city becoming Team Rocket’s main target- as a personal beef.
It is interesting to note that he has never heard or even met Looker.

// I got inspired by one of @kotoyin‘s posts so here we go!
Morty takes over gym exact one year prior to R/B/Y/FR/LG events.
It would be the one and only slow year for him, in all of his future life as Ecruteak’s gym leader. Not just because he is the newest addition to Johto’s League and he is still trying to settle things down, but also because of the general public’s lack of interest in taking on the gym leaders’ challenge.
The reason behind the previous gym-leader’s departure is unknown, Morty never gets to learn about it- and doesn’t try to dive too deep into it.
Morty was quite lucky in this regard- he joined at a time that the Pokemon League found itself, kinda of desperate due to the lack of interest from the general public. (Which would only change with Red and Blue’s adventure).
Meaning that they were basically taking just about anyone on board with some kind of interest to take on the job!
This in no way or shape means it would be easy to just take on the gym-leader role, but the process of doing so was a lot easier and faster than what it would likely become. (The fact that no one actually made any real research on Giovanni, it is safe to assume they could end up hiring some young adult with nothing but a trainer’s card with no records about him until he got the ID validated again).
It took almost an entire month, until Morty’s very first challenger showed up to face him. And even more weeks until the next one showed up.
Morty took this opportunity to recover and take care of himself, rebuild the gym and try to run it as best as he could.

A few headcanons I have been meaning to bring here, as I have a feeling I lost the posts which talked about them:
Morty was born on the pokemon world’s equivalent to the 1980′s, and his teenagery went through the 90′s.
While growing up he had very little contact with Johto’s traditions- if anything he had a lot more contact with Sinnoh’s thanks to his mother’s side.
Morty’s blond hair was inherited from his father, the brown eyes actually came from his mother.
While he was a teen- his favorite places to wander around were TV stores and Arcades. The colors, and sounds have always been a much needed distraction. When it came to arcades, Morty was rarely ever had any quarters left for him to be able to play anything. So most of the times he was left watching everyone else- not that he complained, just standing by the cabinets seemed to suffice him.
While they are rarely brought up in threads/posts, Morty actually has way more pokemon than the ones who are mostly talked about or mentioned/featured. Some special pokemon he has possession over are:
A duo of Sableyes
A Banette
A couple of Shuppets
A Yamask
A Golurk
A Dhelmise*
*obtained during his trip to Alola
These pokemon are kept in his storage system and rarely are ever brought out.

// After correcting that mistake in the timeline, I must say that it doesn’t affect the order of the events all that much - but it means that the window of time for them to happen is DRASTICALLY shorter than from what I’ve been thinking/working on:
His travel to Kalos takes place about an year after the PWT;
Meanwhile, Morty’s shift in behavior and craving for someone in his life is happening throughout it. It will only stop once he is back from Kalos.
It is during this trip where he gives up his Mismagius, leaving her in care of a Hex maniac trainer he befriended during his travel;
While still travelling, shortly after giving up his pokemon, he goes through his drastic change in his looks. He trims his long hairlocks, and starts allowing beard studs to grow on his face.
The travel to Alola happens exactly one year after the SUMO events.
Morty remains as a gym leader, he doesn’t become an elite member nor anything like it. One thing should be clear though: It is that, after his travel to Kalos, he is with a better mindset. His travel to Alola helped him soothe/ease down significantly.

It is ironic considering, how I like to think that the gym-leaders might not have been fond at all of him on a first instance.
