it wasn't always at the same time of day, but it was always the same diner. the same booth. izi swore these were the best fries in the city, and avery would follow her wherever she went. they would order a rotation of the same three things with extra fries to share. tonight was no different. he still let izi beat him to the side of the booth that faced the door. he got a coke and a double cheeseburger. they played catch up. she met someone. he met someone. something strange happened over the weekend, and now her someone wouldn't stop calling. her phone even buzzed at the table. "he's in love with you, izi," avery answered her question before she even asked it. there wasn't a shred of doubt. "trust me." he should know.

Her stomach clenches on instinct, fingernails digging crescents into the flesh of her palms as she used to few seconds of silence gifted to her in order to process it all. Izidora would never confess it to a soul if asked, but she was scared shitless right now, nervous to near tears at the reason behind their meeting & the admission that's just fallen from her lips. There was no real reason for it, objectively; Avery was so close to Izidora that they may as well have shared a rib, indebted to each other as safety mats for as long as she started living again, and he held a title that most men never would in her entire lifetime. He was her best friend. She shouldn't be afraid of what her best friend would think of her (not when he's literally held her, crying & bleeding, panicking, all because of her sister, all because she has a body) or what he would say to her. So she just comes out with it. — I got married to somebody the other night.
"...Yea'. I know you." After a long bout of quiet, Izidora exhales slowly, vice grip loosening against her chest while her jaw rolls reflexively. The idea sounded so fucking stupid once it had left her mouth — he would fucking hate it, probably stick out like a sore thumb or overwhelm him or something — but she wanted him to know anyway, needed him to be there. "You coul' jus'...y'know, stand in the corner like you always do. Make sure nobody crazy walk in or somethin'... — an' you big as shit. Ain' nobody gon' bother you." She let a laugh come out then, nose wrinkling the way it does at the thought of chaos continuing to follow her, even at her wedding reception.
"An' you not gon' like him. At all. Trust me. But I need you, an' Cari's comin' so she coul' skate wit' you the whole time...so shut the fuck up an' jus' come."
