{ OOC: TOA Anniversary Munday
Celebrating TOA and the people who contribute to make our group what it is.
Repost, don't reblog. Only fill in what you feel comfortable sharing!
Happy anniversary, TOA! Here's to many more years spent together.
tagging: anyone who needs a nudge ~
---
Name: Red or Reddo
Pronouns: they/she/he, with a preference toward they/them
Birthday (no year): December 28
Where are you from? What is your time zone? Kentucky; EST (toa o'clock)
Roleplay experience: mmm, tumblr wise, about 11 years? i think?
Got any pets? a very smiley dog named Tobin (named after he of Valentia fame) who hasn't got a thought in his head
Favorite time of year: whatever time of year it isn't right now (no strong feelings, but i miss the heat when it's winter and the cold when it's summer, and the lack of storms when it's tornado season DSHFHSDFHS)
Some interests and things you like: drawing, music................. uh.. g..gaming?? hum.. i really enjoy reading people's thoughts on characterization both in terms of (the muse's) self and relationship with others, though i tend to just read and enjoy unless i feel like. qualified to talk about the character hahaha
Some fun facts & trivia about you: uhh... hrmm... ?? i'm a chronic level grinder in fire emblem, usually to my own detriment, and i lurk in the server far more than i speak in it ^^;; i have way too many stuffed animals on my bed (including a minccino as tall as i am who cannot fits and so must sits on the floor)
What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? FFXIV, Honkai: Star Rail, Pokemon, Genshin Impact, Dragon Age, Story of Seasons.. the more games release though the less i keep up with them HAHA
Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: dark & dragon; lucario, appletun, zorua/zoroark, yamper, eevee+ (fun and incredibly unforeseen fact: i struggle with decisions)
How did you get into Fire Emblem? when i was still in high school some friends of mine kept gushing about some weird guy who had gloves, puffy pants, a singular full length sleeve, and his shoulder out. i didn't get the hype about him at all SDFHDSFHSDF but i liked the art and they liked the game, so i bought it to try it out
What Fire Emblem games have you played? awakening, fe7, fe11/12, fe4, fates (birthright & conquest), engage; i've started and need to restart shadows of valentia, fe6, fe8, and fe9, but i aim to play all of them one day!
First Fire Emblem game: Awakening
Favorite Fire Emblem game: in the end it's probably still Awakening! i have over a thousand hours in that game
Any Fire Emblem crushes? ough,, cordelia, chrom, lady rhea, uhhh. surely there's more but i've blanked HAHA
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? - Awakening: Chrom (on purpose because he got my ass with the ground cutscene immediately, fool that i am) - Fates: Takumi - Three Houses: Dimitri - Engage: haven't finished yet but it's probably going to be Diamant
Favorite Fire Emblem class: mages, dark fliers, horsemen.. i enjoy a good hero as well :]
If you were a Fire Emblem character, what would be your class? i would be the merlinus of my class probably SDFSDSDGSDG definitely a magic user, probably a dark flier or maligknight, maybe a valkyrie? magic and staves, lower end of attack but higher speed + skill, glass bones and paper skin
If you were a Three Houses character, what would be your affiliation? Blue Lions, i think!
If you were an Engage character, which Emblem would you Engage with? hmm... i don't know anything about the dlc emblems, so i'd probably pick byleth for the dance/support, or maybe leif or lyn
How did you find TOA? i heard about it from key for a good while, but i avoided joining at first since i was pretty burnt out in general. eventually zyra brought up the two of us writing macedonks again (we wrote together in an old group!) and i succumbed, hahaha. i was so terrified to join the server back then and she kept sending me screenshots trying to lure me in SDFFFSD
Current TOA muses: Maria & Katarina
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Maria! she's the mainstay muse for me, even if she isn't so deeply thrilling hahaha
Have you had any other TOA muses? Cordelia! I still love her greatly ^^
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? for muses, i tend to gravitate towards the soft-hearted type and the generally good-aligned, but i've been thinking about branching out more/again sometimes
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? in terms of tenses, i used to favor past tense but i usually flip-flop now depending on what makes my starter post sound nicest HAHA i tend to write event posts in present tense however, and sometimes change to match my partner. for threads in general, i'm drawn to emotional scenes and discussions and character bonding, though in general i like all kinds of threads ^^ and just as a general extra, i really love writing maria specifically. the way she puts in her full effort to love other people and the world itself is honestly really soothing to write sometimes!
Favorite TOA-related memory: i love watching everyone lose their minds when something Wild and Zany happens in an event, to be honest DSFDSFSD i haven't got a great memory myself, so nothing specific from me, but it's lots of fun to see :]
How do you pronounce TOA?: noah with a t (toah)
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? 😉 i am genuinely so close at all times to picking up wolf, though a preference for capping at 2 muses and general nervousness keep me from it :pensive: other than that, i've come really close to apping sothis before, and i have partially formed blogs for ced, citrinne, boucheron, among others

who are ingo and emmet's favorite characters from thomas the tank engine? did either twin ever develop a crush on one? /hj
Hi, anon! I guess you didn't see my pinned post where I stated I can't write headcanons for people; that's not my place. I can, however, talk about Thomas and Friends from the perspective of someone around Ingo and Emmet's presumed age range who grew up with the show!
When I was a little kid, Thomas and Friends was first introduced to Americans framed in a live-action show called Shining Time Station. The opening sequence featured famed 4-8-4 Northern locomotive Union Pacific 844, the only steam locomotive to never be retired by a Class I railroad in the United States.
Tumblr media
Shining Time Station's versions of the Thomas stories were first narrated by Ringo Starr, as they were in the UK, and later by George Carlin. This ran until 1995, and then for some reason there was a semi-related movie in 2000 called Thomas and the Magic Railroad, which is really only notable because it sucked. The only good thing I can say about it is that Strasburg #475, the only operational 4-8-0 Mastodon in North America, played a starring role. I'm proud of her.
I had die-cast Thomas and Friends toys (including a nice roundhouse for them to live in), amongst other merchandise. I was born in 1989, right as the show was hitting American audiences for the first time. There's a few characters looking back that I'm surprised people haven't picked up on yet.
The Reverend W. Awdry, the author of the Railway Series books, was a noted railway preservationist, and those themes show up in his work frequently (you can see how vehemently anti-scrapping he is). And that especially shows up with...
Donald and Douglas
Tumblr media
These two are a set of twins whose entire initial storyline revolves around not separating them, so I'm stunned the Submas fandom hasn't jumped on this. Donald and Douglas are two engines from Scotland who are brought to Sodor, and initially the plan is to only keep one of them and scrap the other - Donald was ordered, but Douglas tagged along to avoid being scrapped. After they repeatedly pull twin switches to confuse the matter, the Fat Controller/Sir Topham Hatt finds out that their engineers and firemen are ALSO related and are in on the plan. By this point, their general good performance has endeared them to many, and Percy is sent by the other locomotives to argue on their behalf. The Fat Controller agrees, and both locomotives are saved.
They do, however, receive nameplates so they're forced to stop pulling twin switches, which is funny.
There's another set of twins in Thomas and Friends, Bill and Ben, who are best known for coining the oft-used insult "diseasel." You'll even hear otherwise serious railfans use the term now sometimes if they're steam fans, which is really funny. Bill and Ben solely exist to raise hell. They're officially shunters, but they are actually here to cause problems on purpose and get in trouble.
Tumblr media
You can tell these things are up to no good. Just look at them.
Anyway, I was actually telling my roommate recently that I was surprised the Submas fandom didn't jump on Donald and Douglas's story involving them doing anything to avoid being separated, but I suppose there's a lot less crossover between Pokemon fans and TTTE fans than I thought there might be. I have to remember that I'm fairly unusual in that for me the trains actually came first and have been a lifelong interest; finding Submas only happened for me a few years ago and they were a perfect fit because I've always been into trains.
I'm not involved in the Thomas fandom (though I did have a massive...thing in 2014 with another preschool train show, Chuggington), but I have fond memories of the show, as it was an early introduction to steam locomotives for me, which was furthered by my parents taking me to Strasburg, which had the side effect of me discovering Old Rivets and falling in love with one specific electric locomotive class (steam locomotives are a hobby I share with my dad; the GG1 is just my own thing). I am, however, aware that Thomas and Friends has a very vocal and passionate fandom. That "half-joking" got me wondering, anon - do you by chance have a crush on any of the characters? Because I know quite a few people certainly do!

ahh ok ok, it's good !! i'm only halfway thru but mAN, i'm hooked HAHA, and abt the type, mmm i don't really have a preference tbh, i just take a look at the blurb and if it's interesting to me, then i send a message to my mom n she decided whether to buy it or not
as for recs, i've only gotten into reading recently, but i have a few that i've been wanting to read
- agatha christie seems to be pretty popular, and i think she writes on horror, so i'll look into that
- there's also this guy, anthony horowitz, and i'm very interested in reading a book of his, the word is murder (it's out of stock on our local bookstore, so i'm just waiting on it)
- one of us is lying and one of us is next is popular with my friends and classmates, so i'm interested in it as well
but do you have any book recs? i'd like to get more into it, but i haven't been able to find a lot of good ones ; i dont mind the genre, i just get at what seems interesting to me, so feel free to drop your favorites :D
HMMMM IMMA CHECK THAT ONE OUT :DD
ok so what you got sounds good I'll give you some basic recs because I want to explore the genre a bit more myself lol (my sister also really wants to read One of us is Lying lol)
Classics (not old but like... famous):
- an Inspector Calls - a play that's quite famous, it's a script so it's all dialogue and the story is revealed through an interrogation it's a classic for a reason :) - An inspector comes to the house of a rich family in the (oh dear) like mid 1800s? Anyway he claims that they are all guilty of driving a working class woman to suicide and the whole story is slowly revealed it's so GOOD
- Oedipus Rex - ok this is an old classic but :)))) what can I say - it's another play and it's good! Technically it's a tragedy but the plot of the tragedy is Oedipus trying to solve a mystery - chances are you know the ending but that's the point, knowing the ending creates tension as he tries to figure it out and you wonder when the ball is going to drop
- Sherlock Holmes - I... I haven't actually read these but one of my best friends has and she KEEPS bugging me to read them so it's on the list because it's a classic and also my bestie likes them
- Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - Pretty short! And so so good! You probably recognise the story and it has it's fame for a reason... t's written from the POV of this Judge? I think? I can't remember his career, anyway he becomes involved in these murders and he decides to find out who's doing it and then track the perpetrator down and it's also sci-fi and psychological I believe anyway definite recommendation
Lower level (so like ages 11 - 15? I mean that's the age I was when I read them so):
- The Mysterious Benedict Society series - honestly? I want to reread these because a television adaption is coming out and I'm mad about some of the cuts they made - it's about a group of children recruited to stop someone from brainwashing the world
- the Lady Grace mysteries - definitely around the 11/12 age when I read these so they're quite an easy read but what can I say I still like them and easy reads are good and fun - it's set in the late 1500s and the main character is Grace, goddaughter to Queen Elizabeth the first, and she becomes a private detective for the Queen for various murders happening around court while outwitting the official (male) detective who thinks that her observations are worth pretty much nothing - she also has to keep it a secret from the other Maids of Honour (like ladies in waiting but... nobles)
- Orphan Monster Spy - ok I loved this when I read it at... 13/14/15? Anyway it's about a Jewish girl in WW2 who goes undercover at a school for nazi's children to gather information it is very good
- The murder most unladylike series - OK this I read at 10/11/12 as well but just because books are for younger audiences doesn't mean they aren't gripping and they're often more creative! My sister is reading this atm and she loves it ehe - it's two girls at a boarding school that start solving mysteries together
Higher Level (so like... 15/16/17? When I read or have been recommended and all that jazz):
- Oryx and Crake - This is written by Margaret Atwood which means it's good. The woman is a legend! Handmaid's Tale COULD be considered thriller or smth like it's sci-fi but like... cmon so that's another rec by her. My English teacher and my mum keep recommending me this but I haven't started it yet... general consensus is it's good though!
- Jane Harper - She's an author who's mysteries are apparently pretty good? I have one and they all seem to be popular sooooo a recommendation :)
- The Declaration + sequels - These are written by Gemma Malley and ALL I CAN REMEMBER ABOUT HOW GOOD THEY ARE is that when I was taking my GCSE mocks (I was 15 half of us were 16) we had to do revision in an exam hall and um anyway I read this book and the Resistance instead and did not do any revision I was hooked - not really a mystery or crime technically I don't think but definitely that vibe - Basically it's a future world where children just aren't a thing? The government has designed drugs for longevity and kids born outside of the law become 'surplus' and are all housed together but this girl meets a boy from outside (I cannot for the life of me remember if they get together or not) and they escape and go to investigate the government and where these drugs are coming from
I'll add more if I read them... IDEA! This list will have a tag (#wid's book recs! and #wid's mystery recs!) so I'll add recs to it when I get them so it'll be constantly evolving and I'll do the same for other genres at some point! I had a few more that I wanted to add but I forgot and the cat is being clingy
