About Cú's name

His birth name was Sétanta (Knower of Paths) and was given to him by his biological parents. He doesn't mind it when others call him Sétanta, though he's more used to being called Cú. Only his family called him Sétanta.

His earned name is Cú Chulainn (Hound of Culann). He earned the nickname after killing the first hound of Culann in self-defense as a small child. The father of druids Cathbad gave it to him after the event. He gets called Cú (Hound) a lot, as he was seen as the guardian dog of Ulster.

Cúcuc (Little Hound) is the nickname his best friend and charioteer, Láeg, gave him. Only close friends get to call him Cúcuc!
