Oh boy, that is where you are WRONG, buddy pal of mine. It's not "better for a baby to be hearing" than deaf because hearing people aren't better than deaf people! Simple as that. Deafness is an identity and a culture, and it should always be a choice that only the individual can make as to whether they pursue invasive surgery with a low success rate or not. Can't believe you compared that to vaccination.
I understand you’re logic which is why I would never presume to question an adult’s (or even like… an older child’s) decision to remain deaf if they grew up that way. But I remain unconvinced that having an additional form of sensory input is equally advantageous as NOT having that additional form of sensory input. So if an infant (who has not yet developed a cultural identity or values) has the opportunity to gain a sense that they did not have previously, I think it is better for the parents to let that happen, since the objection that you brought up is really the only one I can think of, and in the case of an infant is not relevant.
Also, would you make the same argument if the child was blind instead of deaf?
