Why did we broke up with ex husband!Rafe in the first place 😩
lollll, so as we know rafe can be a bit intense at times. Given his struggle with substances and his short temper it was overall a bad mix. At the beginning of the marriage life was sweet and you guys were expecting a beautiful baby girl.
As time went on, you gave birth and the baby was healthy. You were happy and assumed rafe was as well. But it was like a switch flipped and he became more distant as his insecurities about being a father began to settle in. The cocaine didn’t help either, which you weren’t aware he was still abusing.
Ward began to get involved in you guy’s relationship and that was a big no no that you made sure Rafe knew. He ultimately did nothing to stop his parents from wedging themselves into your marriage. This created some heated arguments and harsh words. On a continuous basis, but he didn’t think much of it since you both found yourselves right back in the same bed everything. In those subtle moments things seemed okay.
Through all of this, he never took off his ring. He never stopped loving you or the baby. But you’d had enough and this was were you drew the line.
“Rafe I’m done.” you said as you slipped the large diamond off your ring finger. “I can’t keep going back and forth with you. Everyday I come home, it’s the same excuses from you. ‘I’ll change…I’ll be better.’ I’m sick of it.”
Rafe stood across from you in sock. “Wh-what baby no don’t…please don’t.” He said reaching for you hand.
“Rafe I said I’m done! You need to leave. Get your stuff tomorrow while I’m at work.” You exclaimed, slowly walking away from him.
He couldn’t believe what just happened. He thought that he had it under control. But that was far from the truth apparently. When you got like this he knew better than to push, so he grabbed his keys, headed for tannyhill.

"so what i'm hearin' is you got me somethin' with my own money?" rafe asks, looking down at the neatly wrapped box, a pretty white ribbon looped around it. your fingers play with the satin bow, anxious for rafe to open it.
"rafe!" you start with a whine but stop yourself. "it's the thought that counts, okay?" he laughs, taking the gift from your hands.
"sure, kid. whatever you say." he undoes the bow, setting it aside since he knows you'll want to keep it. the wrapping paper gets ripped up and off, while you protest that it could have been reused. he opens the box, looking down at a thin silver chain. there's a little pendant hanging down, the shape of your initial.
he looks up from the chain at you, waiting for his response with big eyes and parted lips. you're playing with your R necklace, the way you always do when you're nervous.
"d-do you like it? i thought we could match," you say quietly, biting you lower lip in anticipation.
"yeah?" he questions, taking the jewelry out of the box and into his hand, feeling the weight of it in his palm.
"only if you like it. you don't have to wear it, i just-"
"just what?" he looks you right in the eyes, wanting your real answer, not just you bouncing around his question from nerves.
"i just wanted to make sure everyone knows you're mine." you lip stings from where you're biting down, rafe look into your eyes.
he opens his arms, and you crawl into his lap, taking the chain from his palm and putting it around his neck, clipping it into place. you smile, pressing a kiss to rafe's cheek, his hands tight on your waist.
"got that right, kid."

i just came back from a college visit at my dream school and I’m picturing rafe being there with reader and answering the questions she has about dorming, meal plans, and more!
He’d be so helpful and patient with you the whole day. Walking into the front building, helping you check in and holding any forms/brochures for you. He seriously would not let you hold anything. Not even a t shirt. If you forgot an important piece of information, either he remember what was said, or he has contacts so that you can ask all the questions you want.
But he’s been thinking about your financial situation a lot recently. He didn’t think it was fair that someone as sweet as you should worry even a bit about money. No, not in his watch.
“Baby i know you’re still tryna figure out how to pay for college and I wanna help.” Rafe said sternly.
“rafey,” you pout slightly “I can’t ask you to do that. ‘s too much”
“you’re not asking me to, I want to do this for you. how can you study if you’re worried about money? hmm?”
tears begin to well in your eyes. “but ‘s a lot of money, you don’t have to-“
the older man brought his hands to your face, smoothing away your tears. “I love you, let me do this for you sweet girl. okay?”
you lower you eyes, sniffling to yourself. “mhm.”
