Design of characters||How make a GOOD design?||How to tell a story through a DESIGN?
(LITERALLY this is my workhome lol hi teacher I'm sorry for write this in english i hope not bad)
Well this is a topic subjective so It will depend a lot on the story and the context. I consider that a good character design is based on the following points:
-Silhouette please make characters recognizable
-Color palette oh okay about this,SELECTIVE A ONE COLOR DOMINANT,like Mickye Mouse you can see he is 90% black an the rest are other color
-Geometric forms,the languaje of forms like circles,triangles etc are importan and dynamics for example think in a character sweet and good is'nt A CIRCLE
-EXAGGERATION THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT,omg i just i wanna see characters iconic
-Understand his personality
-His clothes style (Just imagine so you make a king modern and his clothes are old oh believe me it's funny)
If you character have this foundaments,congratulations YOU CHARACTER will be recognized in any artistic style, just tell me... How many famous characters do not have these foundations? that's right, NONE OF THEM
Just think in characters from Disney,Pixar,or caracters of you childhood everyone are recongnized for his forms...
More points:
-Play with his expectives (Like a villain who at the beginning of the story does not seem to be one, his design is sweet and tender, you would not doubt him)
-The art style is importan don't forget it,you can draw you character on style simplified o more complicated with details
-Teory of color/Psychology Color
I recomended see youtube channels of art and design for a best referece!
