The Kitchen Oath**
I swear by the stove, which gives me fire,
And by the knife, which I hold to aspire,
To uphold the honor of the kitchen’s name,
In the heat of service, to play the game.
With every chop, slice, and dice I make,
I pledge to pursue perfection for the plate’s sake.
I commit to cleanliness, order, and care,
For safety and hygiene, I shall always be aware.
I shall treat my colleagues with respect and grace,
In the bustling confines of our shared space.
I vow to learn and teach in equal measure,
For in shared knowledge lies culinary treasure.
I promise to manage my time with skill,
To serve every dish with an iron will.
I shall waste not the bounty we receive,
Mindful of those who hunger and grieve.
To the produce that nature so kindly provides,
I will honor with techniques that a good chef abides.
I’ll craft with passion, with love and with art,
For cooking is science, but also heart.
In moments of pressure, I will stand tall,
Adapting and overcoming, through it all.
For the joy of creation, the thrill of the taste,
I am a kitchen worker, and this is my space.
This oath I take freely, this oath I hold dear,
In the clatter of pans, it’s the voice I hear.
For as long as I stand on this kitchen’s ground,
To these vows, every day, I am bound.
