Karlie Kloss Is Back With An Adidas SS22 Collection -Designed To Elevate Everyday Activity
Tumblr media
adidas announces it has joined forces with long-standing partner Karlie Kloss to co-create a new collection, available from May 17th. It is the first of the two drops which make up the collection. Inspired by Karlie Kloss’ passion to encourage the next generation of girls and women to lead active lifestyles, the pieces are designed to be versatile and stylish, intersecting across design, fashion, sports and technology. For the first time, garments in the collection include a QR code that allows the wearer to explore the inspiration behind them. Born out of Karlie’s love of fashion and sport in equal parts, the collection includes 17 apparel items, 3 footwear offerings and 2 accessories featuring tech-infused graphic prints. Pieces in the collection range from functional workout basics to modern lifestyle pieces that are made for comfort and functionality, without compromising on style. Key pieces include the ‘KK’ oversized cream pullover paired with flared, cropped black pants, for a stylish everyday look. Head-to-toe high-performance pieces feature tech-infused graphic prints, alongside a range of sport shorts in spring hues of yellow and a pink varsity-style bomber jacket. Each piece has been designed to intersect performance and style, making them perfect for a transition from the everyday to the training studio and vice versa. “The next generation of young adults are passionate about wellbeing and being active. That passion is the inspiration for this 22-piece collection which combines style with functionality for versatile looks that can be worn every day, no matter the occasion. My favorite part about the collection though is how it combines my love for fashion and technology with a special QR code that allows people to explore the inspirations behind this collection. I’m so fascinated by the ways in which fashion and technology can intersect; I truly believe it is the future of fashion. Working with adidas to create this unique experience for consumers was so fun, and I’m beyond excited for people to not only enjoy the comfort and style of these pieces but have a closer look at how we created them.”Karlie Kloss Created for optimum performance and comfort, the collection features adidas’ AEROREADY fabric technology throughout to keep athletes and creators feeling dry as they move. In addition to fusing style and performance, hero looks in the collection use NO DYE technology. NO DYE technology works with a material’s natural color to cut out the water-thirsty part of the process — the pre-treatment phase of conventional dye techniques. The naturally colored fabric does require a post-treatment step to achieve the same performance qualities yet still achieves an average 60% saving on water and energy. The adidas x Karlie Kloss collaboration is yet another step towards adidas’ mission to help end plastic waste. Pieces in the collection are made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic — re-imagined plastic waste, intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing it from polluting our ocean. The adidas x Karlie Kloss collection will be available on adidas.com on May 16, 2022. Read the full article

Sport provides a path for people to create a healthier and lighter life. This belief is what inspired the creation of Re:SubZero – a frame to wear while running, training, or simply staying active beyond the traditional field of play. © Oakley Re:SubZero comes with the mission to reap the benefits of movement, regardless of where your journey begins or ends. The frame was designed for everyone who likes to physically move and improve their lives through sport. Weighing in at just 24 grams, the frame is the perfect, lightweight companion for pre-, during and post-sweat activities, uniting us all in the continued journey to self-betterment. © Oakley “In times like the one we are living, we have the duty to inspire people to use sports as a platform to a better life, to foster a better community and ultimately a better world. Sports relieves, unites, heals, and transforms,” said Caio Amato, Oakley Global Head of Marketing. “RE:SUBZERO is a result of our obsession with creating a great experience to consumers to relieve the heavyweight each one is carrying, regardless of their levels. It is 30 years of heavy innovation, in just 24g! A very lightweight & versatile experience for you to seek the best version of yourself.” The new eyewear is packed with technology that only a brand like Oakley could deliver.  The frame features PhysioMorphic Geometry, an industry revolution that allows for a lens design with an extended wrap and rigidity in key areas that mimic the structural properties of a frame. © Oakley Taking inspiration from the human experience as well as the laws of nature, PhysioMorphic Geometry unlocks eyewear to be designed and developed without limitations, and lenses that are built without any shape constraints. This unique feature results in a seamless design and mask-like fit without carrying the restrictions of a frame. A unique lens attachment leverages the Oakley icon to connect the lens, lug, stem and icon into a flush, one-of-a-kind design. The sunglasses have been outfitted with Prizm™ Lens Technology, designed to enhance color and contrast, in its unique shield lens design, while two Unobtainium® nosepads of different thicknesses and depth allow for varying offsets, creating a perfect fit and no-slip grip. Re:SubZero was revealed to Oakley’s global community via an augmented reality-enabled journey that dramatizes its tech-forward approach, highlighting the innovation packed into this extremely lightweight piece of eyewear. By using a mobile device, viewers received in-depth knowledge and a summary of the development for each element of the frame via augmented reality graphics. The sunglass itself is packaged within a floating chamber to highlight its lightweight design. Re:SubZero arrives just weeks after the brand’s re-launch of Sub Zero, a frame that is part of its MUZM platform that reinterprets iconic, archival products for today. Oakley’s Re:SubZero will be available on the Oakley website and in select Oakley stores and catch Team Oakley athletes Aori Nishimura, Aaron Jones, and Andre De Grasse in the campaign on Oakley YouTube @oakley #resubzero. The Rise of the Male Body Positivity Movement - Boys Need Assurance Too
Tumblr media
We all deserve to feel comfortable in our own skin regardless of size, gender, or colour. Sadly, with societal expectations of how men should behave, it can be difficult for us to find that love in our bodies. In fact, the Campaign Against Living Miserably found in a study that only 26% of men between 16 to 40 were happy with how their bodies looked, but we’re on the road to changing that for the better. Now more than ever, men need the reassurance of knowing that they and their bodies are enough. We’re seeing an uptick in male body positivity influencers who focus less on hitting the weights and more on accepting who we are. Here we look at some of the many reasons why men should feel assurance from seeing positive reassurance about their bodies. Unrealistic Expectations Film, TV, and wider media have had an enormous contribution to how men view themselves. Men have been conditioned to look at the heroes and love interests on-screen, and in every shot, we see how they’re perfectly lean with straight teeth and gapless smiles. One increasingly common theme with body expectations among men is the superhero body transformation. Actors who haven’t traditionally been connected with properties like Marvel or DC regularly go through huge physical changes to fit the aesthetic we associate with superheroes. Media is a large part of popular culture and can absolutely link to the wider audience of men feeling inadequate. What these transformations don’t show is the intense amount of work and upkeep that goes into producing the body, and is frankly unattainable by everyday standards and resources, such as personal trainers and dieticians. Toxic Masculinity From a very young age, men are taught that displaying emotions isn’t masculine. In a study from Michigan State University, it was determined that men who conform to outdated ideas of masculinity become socially isolated as they get older. This, in turn, affects their physical and mental health. By conforming to this worn-out idea of what it takes to be “masculine”, it gives men less of an opportunity to not only express themselves but also limits what they’re willing to experiment with when it comes to styles of dress. Breaking The Stigma While it’s clear that a staggering number of men feel this way, for things to get better men need figureheads and people willing to start the conversation. A fantastic example is Jonah Hill, who made a public statement on Instagram asking people and news publications to not comment on his body, which prompted a massive positive response from the online community. Harry Styles is another public figure who decided to push back against the traditional by wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue. Now, this doesn’t mean we need a large following or a cover feature on a fashion magazine to start breaking the stigma around talking about male body image issues. Starting small is still a start, whether that’s talking to a friend or loved one about how we’re feeling or making fashion choices that you feel more confident in. In fact, a study showed that even though 78% of men aged between 20 and 59 said it’s okay to admit you’re struggling, 25% said they felt their problems weren’t serious enough to ask for help. For the stigma to truly be broken, an emphasis must be placed on encouraging men to speak out when they’re struggling and giving them a safe space to heal from these feelings. Male Beauty On The Rise We’ve recently seen a positive change in how men approach beauty products. Whether this is a desire to break away from the norms forced upon men or an effect of ‘Love Island’, we’re seeing a statistical rise in male beauty products. It’s brilliant to see more men embracing the new culture of painted nails or simply trying out self-tan drops for a confidence-boosting glow, there’s no wrong way to begin the process of self-love. Just go with the vibes of what your body wants and needs to meet its goals. Plus, with 34% of males at the start of 2020 saying they felt more confident about their looks than in the previous year, there is definitely a positive change on the horizon. Every Body Is A Good Body In the end, we only get one body and we deserve to feel the comfort of knowing it’s uniquely ours. And despite the unrealistic expectations and values that men are taught from childhood, the work of influencers is beginning to make real social change. More and more men are learning it is okay to feel good about themselves and their bodies. As a result of the want to break from this pattern of conformity, a number of male body positivity influencers have emerged and begun teaching men that loving the body you’re in is not a shameful practice, as well as celebrities cracking the mould of what it means to accept yourself. And though statistics show that we still have a long way to go before these issues become something that can be freely discussed among friends, we can hope that in the not-so-distant future it becomes commonplace to assure the men we care about that they look good and deserve to feel good too. How To Really Listen To Your Body When It Comes To Intuitive Eating And Exercise
Tumblr media
We’re often told to be a bit more intuitive when it comes to our personal health and listen to our bodies, but that can be easier said than done. With our busy lives – and when many of us are hunched over a desk for a large portion of the day – it can feel like we’re far removed from our body’s wants and needs. And sometimes you might listen to your body and it wants cheesecake – is that even doing it right? If you’re curious about intuitive eating and exercise, we asked an expert to explain what it’s about, and why you might want to start adopting it into your own life… What are the potential benefits? GP and personal trainer Dr. Folusha Oluwajana (@fitdocfolu) suggests eating and working out intuitively “can be an effective way to maintain a healthy weight, as it focused around becoming in tune with your body’s natural preference to resist weight gain or loss. “Intuitive practices remove the pressure of tracking your intake, sticking to a meal plan or a training routine, which can reduce stress,” adds Oluwajana. “Improved sleep, mood and energy, a better relationship with food and exercise, increased self-esteem and happiness are common results when people begin eating and exercising intuitively.” How can you practically do this? https://twitter.com/Latesha_Byrd/status/1523000969688399873 A lot of us are on autopilot when it comes to our diet – eating three meals a day and mindlessly snacking when we’re bored – but Oluwajana says being intuitive is about “listening to hunger cues, sensations of fullness, energy levels and other factors – then reacting to them”. She advises: “Eat when you’re hungry and stop eating when you’re full. If you struggle with this, you can try using a hunger fullness scale to help you measure it. One is ravenous and faint and 10 is physically ill from fullness. Generally, the advice is to eat around three to four, and stop around seven.” It’s a bit trickier to tap into your body’s wants and needs when it comes to exercise, and it might take practice to get you there. “With training, you should focus more on your overall health and wellbeing, and less on weight,” says Oluwajana. She urges you to spend time on your recovery, and try to get the balance right between “feeling physically rested, or overtired from exercise”. She suggests asking yourself these questions to help guide you: “Are you enjoying what you are doing, and does it make you feel good?” What are the potential stumbling blocks? https://twitter.com/lchfRD/status/1522218429859569665 Intuitive eating might not be for everyone. For example, you might want to think carefully and perhaps steer clear entirely if you have a history of eating disorders, or physically can’t move your body that easily, or have any underlying health issues that may need to be taken into account. See your doctor if you have any queries. For everyone else, Oluwajana says: “Often people struggle with this practice, as they haven’t really shifted their mindset or changed their way of thinking. “Don’t focus on your weight, and accept your healthy weight may not be the weight you were hoping for. Educate yourself, and learn more about what actually constitutes healthy nutrition and exercise. Intuitive eating should mean the majority of your diet is nutritious, but it is free from restriction – and also free from overindulgence. “Try to remove all restrictive thoughts about certain foods. This can be really hard to unlearn, but is important to allow you to really eat intuitively.” Any more tips for success? Changing your mindset can be tricky and might take time (Alamy/PA) “Choose to move your body and eat a nutritious diet as a form of self-care, rather than punishment,” Oluwajana says simply. “Avoid excessive planning and restriction, allow flexibility and start small. “Then see how your body (and mind) feels after doing this for a while, and explore what works for you. You will likely notice things that will make you want to keep going.” Throughout the whole process, make sure you’re kind to yourself. If you’re feeling energetic and want to go for a run – great. But equally, if you’re body is craving rest and a slice of cake, do what feels good for you. Read the full article

Great Britain's Ice Hockey Side Prove They Can Play Against The Big Teams
Tumblr media
Forward Matthew Myers feels Great Britain's performance in their defeat by Czechia at the World Championship in Finland this afternoon shows they can complete with the big teams at the tournament. GB were beaten by 5-1 in Group B in Tampere but they made a bright start and had the better chances in the first period. Czechia scored twice in the second session and added three goals in the third period before Ben Lake got GB on the board with a neat backhand finish for his second GB career goal. Myers said: "We started fantastically and had great scoring chances but didn't capitalise. "We were happy to be zero-zero against such a good team at the end of the first period, but in the end we are disappointed that we didn't do better. "We have nothing to lose. We have come here and we're enjoying ourselves and working hard. "We want to get wins along the way of course, but this afternoon we proved we can play against the top teams." GB return to action tomorrow as they face Norway in the day's first game at 12:20 (10:20 UK). "Every team at this tournament is fantastic and Norway will pose the same challenge as we had tonight," continued Myers. "They are a good skating hockey team with high-end skill. Good goaltending and good defence - it's just more of the same. "We do not want to get relegated. It's a tough uphill battle but we've come here to win hockey games and we're planning to be here next season.”  Great Britain World Championship schedule Saturday 14th May 2022 – Czech Republic 5-1 Great Britain – Goal: Ben LakeSunday 15th May 2022 – Norway v Great Britain 12:20 (10:20 UK time)Tuesday 17th May 2022 – Sweden v Great Britain 20:20 (18:20 UK time)Thursday 19th May 2022 – Great Britain v USA 16:20 (14:20 UK time)Friday 20th May 2022 – Great Britain v Finland 16:20 (14:20 UK time)Sunday 22nd May 2022 – Great Britain v Latvia 16:20 (14:20 UK time)Monday 23rd May 2022 – Austria v Great Britain 20:20 (18:20 UK time) Read the full article

The Royal Parks Half Marathon 2022 Will Launch Its First Plant-Based Food Village At This Year’s Race, In Partnership With Quorn
Tumblr media
The Royal Parks Half Marathon, presented by Royal Bank of Canada, has announced it will be launching a Plant-Based Food Village, presented by Quorn, at the event’s Food and Fitness Festival, set to take place on Sunday 9 October. In partnership with Quorn, the half marathon’s official Sustainable Protein Partner, the Plant-Based Food Village is being introduced to encourage runners and spectators to think about how their food choices impact the environment. The Plant-Based Food Village, presented by Quorn, will feature a selection of plant-based food stalls, all focused on refuelling runners after their epic run. The broader festival will include eco-stalls featuring environmentally friendly products to purchase. The Plant-Based Food Village, presented by Quorn, contributes to the half marathon’s aim of becoming as sustainable as possible. This pledge is further enhanced by its partnership with Trees Not Tees, whereby runners are given the opportunity to plant a tree in lieu of a finisher’s shirt, in order to reduce waste. The race maintains its pledge to ban single-use plastic.  We encourage runners to be largely self-sufficient with their water supply, but only for those that are comfortable doing so.  Water will be readily available both at the start and the end of the race, and there are three on-course water stations.  Alun Mainwaring, Head of Events at The Royal Parks, commented: “We’re very excited to launch our Plant-Based Food Village, presented by Quorn, at this year’s event. We want runners to explore plant-based options as a healthy, sustainable lifestyle choice that takes care of the planet around them. “We’re so excited to provide runners with an afternoon of great food and enjoyable activities, following an unforgettable running experience through one of the most famous cities on earth.” Gill Riley, Marketing Director at Quorn Foods, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Royal Parks Half Marathon this year and support the first ever Plant-Based Food Village. It’s now more important than ever that shoppers make more sustainable food choices, so we can’t wait to share our delicious Quorn products with the runners and spectators to show them just how easy and tasty these choices can be. As well as being a great source of protein, all our products contain our super-protein Quorn mycoprotein, which is naturally high in protein and fibre, low in saturated fat and has a lower environmental impact than some animal proteins. The carbon footprint of Quorn’s mycoprotein is at least 35 times lower than beef mince and its water footprint is at least 16 times lower than pork*1 - making it a great choice for runners and the planet alike.” The Royal Parks Half Marathon will be returning to its original route this year, meaning the 13.1mile run will lead its 16,000 participants through four of London’s eight Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, Green Park, and St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. Internationally recognised landmarks also form part of the race’s backdrop, including Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, Canada House, and Buckingham Palace, allowing the marathon to retain its title as one of the most visually stunning races on the planet. Though the ballot for the 2022 Royal Parks Half Marathon has now closed, you can still guarantee entry by running on behalf of one of the event’s charity partners. World Rugby Confirms Adoption Of Welfare-Driven Laws
Tumblr media
World Rugby Council has voted unanimously to adopt five welfare-driven global trials into full law from 1 July. The new laws mean that the upcoming women’s and men’s Rugby World Cups will feature the current package of global welfare-driven law trials including 50:22 and the goal line dropout. With rugby united in its mission to be the most progressive sport on player welfare, the package of five laws have all been approved with welfare advancement in mind and following a global trial period of one year where every player at all levels has been able to play under them and have their say.  The scrum brake foot, trialed in this year’s Six Nations Championships, will move from a closed to global trial, meaning it will also feature at the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in 2022 and 2023. World Rugby’s Laws Review Group and High-Performance Rugby Committee made the recommendations to the World Rugby Council following a detailed analysis of welfare and shape of the game data as well as feedback from the Game, including players, coaches, match officials, medics and public. All five trials were deemed to have positively enhanced both safety and spectacle and were unanimously approved by the Council. They are: •    50:22•    Goal Line Drop Out •    Pre-Bound Pods of Players (or “Flying Wedge”)•    Sanctioning of a lower-limb clearout•    Latching  The Council also approved minor amendments to the laws to accommodate the rulings on law clarifications raised by member unions since 2020, adding clarity to the respective areas of law.  Approval of the new laws builds on the package of Game On Community Law Variations providing national unions with the ability to implement modified laws at a domestic mass participation level.   Allowing each union to further game experience and safety for participants by meeting the specific needs of the game in their nation. Unions can pick and choose from dependent on their context and purpose. World Rugby, fully supported by member unions, competitions and players, will continue to evaluate the impact of the new laws against the central objective of supporting positive welfare outcomes, including head injury prevention, as the only sport that gathers and publishes game-wide injury data.  Following representation from member unions and player groups, there will be a renewed focus on side entry by both attacking and defending players at the breakdown. This reinforces player protection and safety and ensures a fair contest for the ball in this dynamic area of the game. This will come in the form of a Law Application Guideline to be confirmed at the international match officials camp to be held ahead of the July international fixtures. World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont said: “Rugby’s laws are fundamental to its accessibility, appeal and safety. It is our mission to ensure that the laws are the best that they can be for everyone playing the game and the approval of these laws following detailed evaluation and widespread consultation, underscores that commitment. “I would like to thank every player, coach and medic at every level for participating and providing feedback on this trial – your views are important to us and we will continue to consult with you as we work together to cement rugby as the most progressive sport on player welfare.” World Rugby Chief Player Welfare and Rugby Services Officer Mark Harrington added: “Law evaluation is an important facet of our holistic approach to reducing the risk of injury in the sport and we continually monitor, review and evolve the laws of the game with the ambition of making rugby as simple and safe as possible. “The majority of these trials were born from the 2018 Player Welfare and Laws Symposium and reflect the sport’s united and unwavering intent when it comes to protecting players at all levels. Each new law has been developed with the input of experts and reflects an evidence-based approach to reducing higher-risk behaviours by changing the nature of the contact area of the game or reducing overall contact in a game situation. “We never stand still when it comes to welfare and in addition to this important work, we are near completion of a ground-breaking study into the frequency and nature of head impacts in the community and elite rugby in partnership with the University of Otago and University of Ulster, undertaking further women-specific research and validation of the contact training guidance published last year. All of these priority strands will inform the decisions we make to advance welfare for players at all levels of the game.” Council’s approval brings to a close a process that began with union submissions on potential welfare-focused law amendments at the 2018 Player Welfare and Laws Symposium in France.  Those deemed by the dedicated Laws Review Group to be the most effective were progressed through a programme of detailed evaluation and feedback (including public consultation) before closed law trials were approved in 2020 before the most impactful progressed to global law trials in July 2021. British Canoeing Partners With London Youth Rowing And Sport England To Launch Active Paddle
Tumblr media
British Canoeing, through the England Talent Programme, has partnered with London Youth Rowing (LYR) and Sport England to create the Active Paddle programme to bring canoeing opportunities to young people at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Royal Docks in East London. LYR has opened up the benefits of rowing to young people who would not normally get the chance to participate in the sport, through a series of engagement programmes across London, Leeds and Kent. This new partnership with British Canoeing will see the addition of paddlesports to their offer. © Danny Loo The partnership is being supported by Sport England, who will be investing around £140,000 over the next three years. The fund will go towards the recruitment and training of a full-time canoeing coach to deliver Active Paddle at the LYR boat clubs and in schools across East London. It is hoped that ultimately this will enable the provision of a mix of rowing and paddlesports to those children and young people it connects with through its Active Row programme, which works with 60+ state secondary schools across London, regularly working with over 2,000 young people each year. With further investment in coach development, education and the provision of qualifications, British Canoeing will support the boat club to become a recognised club in due course and provide access and support to the talent pathway for those with competitive aspirations. Rich Ramsdale, British Canoeing’s Head of Talent, said:  “Through our own research we know that while we have a close gender balance within our England talent programme, the majority of our athletes on English squads are white, with very few from the most deprived areas of the country.” “It is clear we need to identify ways to positively change in order to develop paddlesport to reach a broader representation within the participation base and our talent pathways”.  In March this year, British Canoeing launched its four-year strategy, Stronger Together 2022-26. One of the key cross-cutting themes will focus on improving Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, to help everyone enjoy paddling, regardless of identity, background or circumstance. “When we met LYR in 2019, they engaged with almost five thousand young people, of whom 49% were female, 69% from an ethnically diverse background and eight percent had special education needs or disabilities. Their mission to make rowing more accessible to young people from all backgrounds is something we believe that can be achieved in canoeing too,” continued Rich.     “The key aim of Active Paddle is to give young people the chance to try canoeing who would not normally have had the opportunity to give it a try, or they perceive it as a sport that’s not for them.  “We want to change the perception of paddlesports and provide an active environment for young people to start, sustain and enjoy the sport. Moreover, this presents an opportunity to begin a project in which LYR, British Canoeing and Sport England can use to test and learn. It can provide a blueprint for future talent inclusion projects both in other sports and within paddlesport.”  Matt Rostron, CEO of LYR, said: “We are very excited to be further expanding our long-standing partnership with Sport England and starting a new partnership with British Canoeing. Using our existing network of schools to give young people the opportunity to try paddlesports alongside our existing offer of rowing gives us another route to get young people active and help them develop skills for life through taking part in water sports.” “Running the programme in East London will help us make the most of our sites at the Royal Docks and, in particular, the new water sports hub we are developing at the Olympic Park. We are really looking forward to working with our first non-rowing NGB to see what we can both learn from this new and exciting project. We’re looking forward to learning how best to give young people from non-traditional backgrounds their first experience of canoeing and paddle sports through Active Paddle and, if they want to, help them take the first steps on performance pathways.” The partnership and delivery will begin during the summer of 2022.  Read the full article
