Nynaeve doesn’t try to keep her feelings for Lan a secret, and Melaine has been travelling with Moiraine and Egwene - plenty of opportunity to pick up on all the gossip. And to observe whatever indications there are that Lan cares (Moiraine has thought that Lan doesn’t deny that he loves for Nynaeve, and earlier in this scene Egwene told Nynaeve “He worries about whether you are safe”). 

But how does Melaine know that Lan would be so affected by Nynaeve’s death? Gossip or observation? Or she just saying that because she knows it’s a threat Nynaeve will take seriously?

Knowing (thanks to the Companion) that Melaine is so much older than she looks - much older than Nynaeve - changes my understanding of Melaine’s perspective here. There’s years of experience lying behind her words.

I don't know what tenth circle of hell my YouTube algorithm fell into, but I really wish it would stop showing me videos of 5 a.m. morning writing routines.

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.

The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.

Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.

I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)

Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

Something that sticks out to me from rereading TFOH is that it deals A LOT with Nynaeve's fear of failure and not being enough to help her friends and people and I think people forget that she's deeply afraid cause she presents this facade that she's confident in herself when deep down she's not

I could see a little Mat in Asmodean maybe? Adventure, music - they both had motives that had nothing to do with grand causes

i think that people should start using “in poor taste” as a descriptor again given it is often the most applicable and clearest phrase when discoursing about media and analysis; sometimes a piece of art isn’t actually THE most problematic thing of all time is is. ​just in poor taste (not JUST in poor taste as a reductive take on potential harm but/and as in regardless of intent the impact is this was an offensive or stupid take/choice)

I had an interview with a local paper this week about this rock snake I started on the longest street of a nearby city (where I work) because it's bringing people so much joy:

I said something during the interview that the interviewer seemed really shocked by, so in case it's important for anyone else to hear: When asked about the rock snake and some scavenger hunts that I've hosted for adults, I said -

"We don't stop enjoying the things we liked as kids; they just stop being offered to us. And when you're a kid, fun things like art projects and scavenger hunts are always brought to you, so you're not taught to make a habit of seeking them out as and adult."

She said "Wow yeah... life is so stressful... and you don't think to... wow."

So if anyone else needs direct permission to be a whimsical adult child today, I hereby grant it to everyone. ❤️
