Season 1, Episodes 34–40
Okay so maybe I won't have something to say about every single installment.
Ep 36: "The Shortcut"
Oh boy that's… quite the system you've got with your grandma there Kit. That's uh. Hm.
Also ngl I ship Craig/Kit a little bit.
Ep 37: "Dibs Court"
As much of a dick as Mark is, I think it's unironically cool of the elders to not only associate with much younger kids, but make doing so a substantial commitment.
Ep 38: "The Great Fossil Rush"
Aww Kelsey's lil crush on Wildernessa.
Ep 40: "Alone Quest"
I was not expecting the season finale to be "Craig has to take a shit," nor would I have expected that a "Craig has to take a shit" episode would so endear me to Kelsey. But here we are on both counts.

Season 1, ep 33: "Jessica's Trail"
Oh, so that's what "Othersiders" means. Probably. From here on out you can expect less 👀ing from me unless something particularly egregious happens.
Anyway Jessica's still great. And I like that Craig normally lets Jessica help him with certain parts of his maps because he knows her capabilities and trusts her. Such a sweet little detail.

Season 1, Episodes 1–32
I got most of the way through season 1 before realizing I wanted to liveblog, so I'll start by highlighting a few episodes that particularly stuck out to me, and then I expect to post more detailed thoughts on each episode going forward.
Overall, I like it so far! Very charming. The characters are cool; Jessica's my favorite. The dialogue is good, which for me is a huge plus in a cartoon, as stiff or inorganic-feeling dialogue is a big turnoff. It isn't too didactic. Most of all, I love that it's just a show about play. It portrays the centrality and importance of make believe to many children's lives way better than any cartoon I've seen before.
Ep 03: "Jessica Goes to the Creek"
I love Jessica, okay? She's adorable first of all.
And her interest in finance—I expected it to hit that trope of a small child is a total genius, you know like Jessica would be more on top of the family finances than her parents. Which is a fine trope, to be clear! I'm not here downplay the capabilities of children or the diversity of their interests.
But I was pleasantly surprised to have my expectations subverted by a portrayal of a more common childhood experience: that she just mimics what she hears without really understanding it. This was already hinted at in episode 1, but it's further supported here where JP manages to entertain Jessica with a suit and a fancy voice despite lacking the knowledge to replicate the actual program. Anyway, it's cool! It's realistic! It's how children learn! I love it!
Anyway I also like the conflict of this episode because when Jessica is in distress it tugs on my heartstrings. Just today the phrase I'm not a sticker! You're a sticker! has been running through my head on loop.
Ep 08: "Escape from Family Dinner"
This one stuck out to me because of the emotional maturity that Craig's parents displayed in trying to actively communicate with their son. I mean they could and should have been more up-front about their intentions, and they should have asked him when he was free instead of forcing him into a check-in on their schedule. But still, yay for portrayals of much-better-than-average parenting!
Ep 10: "The Curse"
Gay.
Ep 12: "Bring Out Your Beast"
Tumblr media
Ep 16: "Under the Overpass"
As far as I can remember, this is the first episode where the mystery is never resolved from the protags' POV and there's no Perfectly Reasonable Explanation that an older viewer might pick up on. So that's neat. Who the fuck was that kid. I'd say the symbols were graffiti but why the barrels. Wonder if this plays into that one spoiler that I wasn't even really spoiled on.
Also the urgency in Kelsey's voice when she talks about how it's a real bow and arrow, like in gym class…crossing that invisible, often blur, but very real line between play and reality. That uh, guys? feeling. Love it.
Ep 22: "Doorway to Helen"
Unlike "Under the Overpass", this one does actually have a mundane explanation: Helen is homeschooled, probably by strict religious parents, and she visits the creek during the day when it's empty and warmer. I am a liiiiiitle bit 👀 at the idea of an alternate dimension because it pattern-matches to The Spoiler, but I'm not holding my breath.
ALSO what does Helen look like. Why didn't she want anyone to see her face. That wasn't resolved. I expect we'll see more of her (haha literally like more of her face) at some point. AND ALSO
Tumblr media
Ep 26: "The Kid from 3030"
what the fuck was that ending 👀
Ep 30: "Jextra Perrestrial"
That oh moment, that playtime's over moment.
Ep 31: "The Takeout Mission"
Fuck yeah kids are exactly as competent as you allow them to be.
Obligatory 👀 at the oven turning itself on even though there's a mundane explanation in the kids just pretending that's what happened as a kind of made-up loophole. (God I could be totally wrong. I haven't really been spoiled on anything. There might be zero diegetic magic in this setting. But I feel compelled to keep an eyes out.)

I'm liveblogging Craig of the Creek! Asks off, replies off, DMs off, and reblogs off because I hate being spoiled. I was, unfortunately, spoiled on one thing.
The Spoiler
YouTube recommended me a video titled "Everything We Know About The Othersiders" or something like that. Don't know what it means, didn't watch the video, and I don't even remember the thumbnail.
But from the title alone, it sure sounds like there's some diegetic fantasy happening—in spite of the fact that everything magical so far has been internal on the part of the child characters, either make believe or a misunderstanding. I could be totally off base here, but this possibility has definitely made me 👀 at some episodes.
