Hayao Miyazaki would adore Kara Zor El. Just imagine all his amazing storytelling powers focused on giving the world Supergirl's story. Below are some thoughts about Ghibli films and Kara.
Kara and Totoro would get such joy about of helping people and taking long naps.
I can just imagine Kara flying alongside the catbus as they roam around the countryside.
Kara and Ponyo would have so much chaotic fun together. And I wanna witness it.
Porco and Kara doing swoops and dives in the air. Just having fun soaring over the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
They would also get Aldebaran rum and much wine and sit in silence for a while. Then speak of all those they had lost. Both knowing part of them wishes they had gone along with the kin they mourn.
Kara would be such a good mentor for Kiki. I also think they would love flying around. Bond over helping people by delivering not just packages, but love.
I can just see Kara making breakfast and chatting with Calcifer.
Think she would adore Howl's home. She and Sophie would chatter about wanting to read books.
I can see Kara in this quiet Toyko thinking about telling stories just like Shizuku. Learning to carve violins like Seiji.
She would also love the heritage tied to the antique store and the objects within.
Kara would feel the echo of losing Krypton even more strongly watching humans and the natural world at odds. She would uniquely understand the position of the humans and of the forest gods.
I believe, like Ashitaka she would fight for a balance to be found. Whether they would succeed...is another matter.
Kara would identify with the search for the city in the sky. She and Sheeta would bond over losing a home and having to build/find a new one.
I would hope the fact that The Flying Island was still somewhere in the world would remind Kara that Krypton is here - it lives through her.
Kara would be moved by Umi's ritual of honoring her lost family. It would speak to her not just due to her own lose, but because Kryptonian culture holds rituals in deed reverence.
I also think Umi and Kara would love making food in the kitchen together while music played.
Kara would very much understand how Chihiro feels being thrown into a world that is entirely foreign to her. Kara felt like that landing on earth. I think she would also fight just as fiercely to get back to her family. Sometimes I think this is, partially, why her rage and pain will never fully go away. She can never get back to her home, family, or culture.
I think Kara would be utterly charmed by this cat realm. Might also be hard for her not to pick up all the cats.
There is something about this journey that tape into Kara's deepest pain. She can never go visit home again. Yet I think she understand revisiting childhood.
I also think she would understand why Taeko choose to stay in the countryside. Wanting to dig in and reconnect.
Kara would completely understand why Nausicaa was working so hard for her people. In many ways, I think this is what Kara wishes she could have done to help save Krypton. How it much haunt her, even though she was a child when it all went down.
ALSO, i am going to cry. Kara deserved a animal companion like Teto so so much. A companion to stay by her side and go into battle with her, perhaps even certain doom, and they would be friends and comfort one another.
Oh this one. OOF. I feel this one would hit Kara deep. Kaguya being torn away from her home, never able to return.
Kara would identify with Jiro's creativity. The desire to bring something from his imagination to life. How he gets lost in the process. It would be for her, I think to deal with this era. I think it would pull memories of Krypton in a way that would be painful. But Kara and Jiro would connect over seeing the good in life, despite harrowing times.
This one would hit Kara right in the soul. Not knowing family history. Not having the full story of who she is. She would weep for Anna and Marnie.
Kara would understand how hard life was for borrowers. Their society and culture scattered trying to get by in another world. Kara would delight in the world the borrowers made for themselves. She would be sad they had to start over, but she would help them in getting where they needed to go. Also she and Arrietty would tots be friends.
I think Kara would want to be able to shapeshift like the racoons in Pom Poko. I think she could have so much fun with it. Kara would also worry for the plight of the raccoons. She would see how it would effect all of her adopted home. I always imagined she would want to do something to help stops it's destruction.
Well, this Kara and Ghibli thread was spontaneous. Came from me re watching some Ghibli films one evening. I thought I had reached the end, but then I remembered Miyazaki has another film being released. So, I guess, for anyone who saw this thread. Stay tuned.
