there are days like today, on the onset of winter, the coldest night yet, where i can't crawl out of the hibernation of my soul. the trees look so confident when they lose their leaves. about their approaching deep sleep. i can't even muster myself to feel loss or to admit how tired i truly am. i go about the majority of my life wearing masks, the first an immigrant mask, then an adhd mask(s), these days a tech-industry mask. the world doesn't know who i am, except for a few of you out there who i love deeply. but am i. do i even exist if i can't be true. i used to tell myself that to be an artist all you need to do is be. it is inherent in your nature. it is inherent in the way you chop your food, the way you glance at yourself in the mirror, the way you wash your car, the way you can't not feel the fragility of existence when you look at a flower. (and most selfishly, weakly, i cannot even face the realities of our human atrocities). i am struggling to believe what i used to so adamantly preach. i wake up today and i feel dormant.
