Bioluminescence Season has Started in Cocoa Beach, FL
Bioluminescence is like Harry Potter and Avatar had a baby!  It’s incredibly magical and really cannot be explained, it has to be experienced.  But, I’ll try.  Picture inky black water, then as you dip your paddle in sparks burst all around it.  Fish take off leaving bursts of bright light.  A larger flash catches your eye. Scoop! It’s a wriggling cone jellyfish flashing purple and blue in your hand.  Paddling along the lagoon, each splash triggers amazing flashes of life and light. As you slip through the water, you leave a trail of light in your wake and send fish out in front of you like a spray of electric sparks.  But, don’t take my word for it.
Go ahead and book a night time adventure you will not forget!

Do’s and Dont’s of Sea Turtle Season - Cocoa Beach
Loggerheads, Leatherbacks, and Green Turtles  all call the Space Coast home.  And we humans have special rules to help them.
Remember  to keep beaches clean, flat, and dark from May 1 through Oct. 31. Brevard County ordinances prohibit visible lights of any type, including cell phones and flashlights, at night during this time. It is also important to remove beach chairs and other obstacles each night as well as to knock down sandcastles and fill in any holes that may block or trap sea turtles. Please remember sea turtles are a protected species and may not be disturbed or harassed.
If seeing a nest hatching is on your bucket list…prepare to rise before the sunshine, nests hatch at night.  But remember NO lights.  The little hatchlings will go to the brightest light they see.  We want it to be the beautiful Space Coast sunrise.  Disoriented hatchlings  and washbacks (turtlings that caught in the waves and pushed back to shore) deserve a chance, but don’t take them in your own hands.  Here in Brevard County, call the Sea Turtle Preservation Society’s emergency response line at 321-206-0646

Even though the kids are heading back to school, especially since our kids are heading back to school, the outside is still warm and inviting! The days are long, long enough for afterschool homework AND a family walk or bike ride. Weekends will again become sweeter. We get to choose how to spend those 48 hours. I always defer to doing stuff outside! Many of StuffToDoOutside.com’s amazing eco-experiences are 3 or less hours, but because your guides are local, we can give you the best opportunity to catch birds, manatee, dolphins (and really catch) fish in their habitat. But, if you just want to stay home and relax, turn your eyes to the skies and waterways. Weekends are the perfect opportunity for a backyard bird watch.
“Located on the Eastern Continental Flyway, a major bird migration corridor, this region provides prime stopover habitat for many migrating shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors and passerines. More than 330 species of birds have been seen here. Thousands of birds migrate from their northern homes to spend the winter here.” (SpaceCoast Audubon Society.org)
The Audubon Society makes it super easy with a checklist on their website!

Be safe heading back to school. Kids will be free ranging again-on their way to school and bus stops. Keep a look out for our most precious adventure seekers!
And if you are hooked on birding, we know the spot. And you know where to find us!

What is the Space Coast of Florida?
Are you ready to get out of the house and explore? Do you love beutiful beaches with world class surf breaks? How about amazing wildlife (dolphins, manatees, bird’s, inshore gamefish)? Is experiencing the power of a SpaceX launch on your bucket list? The Florida Space Coast has so much to offer, becuase it’s spread out over 40+ miles I’ll break it down a bit…
We’ll cover the areas that make up the Space Coast in this post and get more specifc with each area in future posts, so stay tuned :)
The Space Coast is the area from Titusville all the way to Palm Bay and at the heart of it lies Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. The next island inland is Merritt Island (my home) and if you continue inland over the Hubert Humphrey causeway you’ll find historic Cocoa Village.
