they’re are a family of 7 - 6 siblings (including 2 children) and their mother. dina is a teacher; nora studies special education; ahmed studies software engineering; farah just graduated high school; mohammed is just 13 (and suffers from respiratory problems that became worse as war escalated); amr is only 11 and dreams of becoming an engineer. they lost contact with their father. they also lost their house. they’re now depending on our kindness to help them reach their goal.

this is the breakdown of the cost of their evacuation:

$5000 per adult (we are five adults), totaling $25,000.

$2500 per person under 18 (2 children), totaling $5000.

Renting an apartment in Egypt costs $166 monthly ($2000 for a full year).

Total amount: $32,000.

anyway esims for gaza (gazaesims.com) really need esims right now, they're very reasonably priced & a lot of people are posting discount codes. gazafunds (gazafunds.com) are highlighting a campaign right now for a family who only have €3,638 out of the €50,000 they need to evacuate so go help them out. some classicists might think this, the palestinian genocide & the struggle for palestinian liberation, aren't relevant to our discipline, but it is not morally defensible imo to study the ancient history of a place and yet have no interest in the people who are living & dying there now. free palestine.

Have you ever thought about living in a tent in a cold and unclean ocean, sleeping on the sand, without a bathroom or water? Have you thought about living in a place where you can’t meet your family’s basic needs and feel helpless about it?

I am Shahd from the southern Gaza Strip. All my life, I have been building a life for me and my family. It persisted in a good future, when the war in Gaza began on October 7, 2023. We were in extreme fear during the displacement, and found ourselves in an insufficient small tent. Despite the lack of safety, food, clean water and the spread of diseases, we had to live this difficult life under bombardment, knowing that at any moment, my family and I could lose our lives

My whole life has been scattered, and I am extremely frustrated and sad by the ongoing genocide I witness every day

Do you understand what it means to be in a situation where you have been displaced over and over again, just to reach the only supposed safe area that I ordered you to go to by a much stronger force than you as an unarmed civilian, just to be told that you can’t be there anymore? After you lose everything, like your home, your memories, your friends, your family and loved ones, your job, and everything you have worked hard to achieve...

Amid these hardships, I see a glimmer of hope, because I haven’t given up yet.
