The fact that mirror!Azula is looking back at her mother when she tells her she loves her but real!Azula is facing away from the mirror and talking to empty air when she says "even you fear me." And then when real!Azula turns to destroy the image of her mother in the mirror she's finally facing herself. It's Azula trying to deny that part of herself that needed her mother's love, that knew that her mother loved her, that was vulnerable and imperfect and knows that fear is not better than love.

Azula has such self-loathing, and hates both parts of herself. The part that needs love and the "monster," that is only to be feared. And destroying the mirror is not only an act of self destruction, but an attempt to destroy the link between the two Azulas, who are of course the same person.
