10 Facts about the Son of Sam killer, David Berkowitz
He said he only committed his crimes and murders because of his neighbors possessed dog. He claimed the possessed dog told him to do all the killings .
David Berkowitz was actually born Richard David Falco before he was adopted by Nathan and Pearl Berkowitz.
He found religion in prison and now claims to be a born again christian.
He named himself “the Son of Sam” until he sent the letter with that name he was being called the “.44 caliber killer”.
In 1971 at the age of 18, he joined the United States military where he served in America and South Korea.
While the song didn’t come out until a month after the killings began he claims the song “Rich Girl” by Hall and Oates motivated him to kill.
He set 1,488 fires in New York and recorded each in his journal before he started killing.
He claimed at the time of his arrest that he was being forced to kill by a Satanic cult he was in. Some believed his neighbor( with the ‘possessed’ dog) was also a part of the cult.
He inspired the Son of Sam laws. These laws “required the person contracting with the criminal to turn over the criminal’s proceeds to the state’s Crime Victims Compensation Board, which established an escrow account for the benefit of the crime’s victims and publicized the existence of the account.”
His astrological sign is Gemini.

‘The Camden Ripper’ Anthony John Hardy
Anthony Hardy was born on May 31st 1951 in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire. His father (and his father before him) had been miners but growing up Anthony considered himself above this vocation. He later worked hard in his academic career, succeeding in high school before earning a place at Imperial College London where he graduated in engineering.
Despite this, Anthony Hardy suffered from depression and was abusive to every romantic partner he ever had. In 1982 he was arrested for trying to drown his wife until she declined to press charges. Anthony’s misogynistic crimes escalated until he was finally caught for the murders of three women.
Police who searched his flat found cut off skin and flesh stuck to the wallpaper, a sack containing a pair of human legs and “fantasy documents” Hardy had written detailing stories about violent sexual abuse against women. Between 2000 and 2002 Anthony Hardy had raped and butchered Sally White (38), Elizabeth Valad (29) and Bridgette MacClennan (34).
In sentencing Justice Kelly described how Hardy’s victims were subjected to “unspeakable indignities”. Hardy’s victim’s bodies had multiple bite marks matched to Hardy and showed evidence of being sexually abused after death. At one point, officers who searched Anthony Hardy’s home opened his bedroom door and found the mutilated torso of one of his victims.

Austrian serial killer: Jack Unterweger
Dubbed the ‘Vienna Strangler’ Jack Unterweger was a deeply misogynistic serial killer who murdered at least 12 women. Jack was born into poverty and began a life of violent crime from a young age having assaulted a woman at just 16. He also lusted after the public spotlight and attention of others, penning bestselling books about his life in prison and appearing on Austrian talk shows.
Jack had served his original 15 year prison term for the murder of 18 year old Margaret Shafer. It was in 1974 that Jack kidnapped the teenage girl and brought her to an isolated wooded area. He demanded they have sex and when she refused Jack raped, bludgeoned and strangled the girl to death. Margaret’s body was found nude dumped in a similar way to his later victims.
After being paroled in 1990 Jack murdered more women in several countries including the Czech Republic. It was here that he murdered Blanka Bockova (30). Her body was found posed in a degrading state with her legs open, nude (except for her wedding ring) and with a pair of stockings tied around her neck.
In Austria Jack murdered Heidemarie Hammerer in a similar manner. Her body was found dumped in a wooded area, her legs were bare and some of her clothing was found stuffed in her mouth. Ligament marks also suggested she had been tied up by her assailant.
Jack also carried out the murders of three women in the United States. It was in Los Angeles that Jack murdered Shannon Exley (35), Irene Rodriguez (33) and Peggi Jean Booth (26). All three of Jack’s American murder victims were found dumped after having been strangled to death with articles of their own clothing - just like their European counterparts.
“I had enemies and conquered them through my inner hatred.” - Jack Unterweger

It was the 21st of January, 2003, when 19-year-old Beau Maestas and his sister, 16-year-old Monique Maestas, went to the home of Tamara Bergeron and her boyfriend, Robert Schmidt. Tamara had two young daughters, 3-year-old Kristyanna and 10-year-old Brittney. The Meastas were there to purchase what they believed was $125 worth of methamphetamine from Tamara and Robert. However, when they returned home with their purchase, they found that the little bag of white substance contained salt not methamphetamine. They were ripped off and they were infuriated.
The bitter siblings made their way back to the family’s RV with knives in hand. Beau knocked on the door but soon realised that only Kristyanna and Brittney were home. Brittney refused to open the front door to Beau. Monique then knocked on the door and told Brittney that she needed to open the door because her mother was hurt. The ruse worked and Brittney opened the door to Beau and Monique. As soon as the door was opened, the little girls were attacked. Kristyanna’s throat was slit and the knife was shoved halfway through her head. Brittney was stabbed at least twenty times. Two stab wounds to her back severed her spinal cord. Unfortunately Kristyanna died from her wounds while miraculously Brittney survived although she was left paralysed from the waist down.
The siblings were soon apprehended after Beau’s girlfriend was able to place them at the scene that evening. Police were able to uncover their bloody clothing and knives. Beau confessed to “slaughtering those little piggies. I flipped out and went and killed that lady’s youngest daughter and I paralysed the older one. Three used to be my lucky number. Now, when I think of three, I see a little body hanging eye-level from a knife that’s half her size that’s in my blood had. That was some of the most brutal shit I’ve ever seen.”
During their trial, Clark County District Attorney David Roger pushed for the death penalty. He said: “When you have a young child, 3 years old, who was never given a chance to enjoy all that life has to offer, that is very sad. Going in there with a butcher knife and doing this to those girls over $125 was horrific. Those little girls were no match for him.”
Beau was sentenced to death while Monique pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to life imprisonment with parole eligibility after 40 years.

15-year-old Nehemiah Griego grew up in a family deeply rooted in the Christian faith. His father, Greg, was a pastor who helped people turn their lives around. Nehemiah and his younger siblings - 9-year-old Zephania, 5-year-old Jael, and 2-year-old Angelina - were all homeschooled by their mother, Sarah. The family could often be spotted at the local church.
On the night of the 19th of January, 2013, Nehemiah armed himself with a .22-caliber rifle. He snuck into his mother’s bedroom and shot his mother and Zephania, who was sleeping in the same bed. He then heard crying from the other room coming from his younger sisters. He entered their bedroom and shot them dead as well. Greg returned home at approximately 6AM after working the night shift at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission. When he walked through the door, Nehemiah shot him dead.
After the murders, Nehemiah asked if he could spend the night at his 12-year-old girlfriend’s home. When the girl’s grandmother asked why, he said he had been living alone after his parents died in a car crash. Of course this set off alarm bells for the grandmother who contacted 911. When police arrived at the scene, Nehemiah changed his story and said he had come home from a friend’s house to find his entire family dead. It was a bloody crime scene and police were suspicious of Nehemiah immediately.
He was brought in for questioning and his phone revealed disturbing messages between Nehemiah and his girlfriend. The couple had planned on killing both their parents but the young girl backed out. It was also discovered that she had egged him on and that he sent photographs of the deceased bodies to prove what he had done. After the murders, Nehemiah had reloaded the weapons and put them in the family van. He told police he had driven to Walmart and sat in the car park. He had planned on shooting civilians and dying in a shootout. Thankfully, he just drove back home.
After his arrest, he was diagnosed with psychosis and dissociative disorders. Several members of his surviving family members rallied around him and helped him get the mental health care he needed while several others wanted the harshest punishment possible. Some didn’t believe he suffered from mental illness and that he had used that as an excuse. He’s missing his family. He obviously cries a lot about what happened,” said his aunt.
There was much speculation as to whether Nehemiah would be sentenced as an adult. However, in 2016, it was ruled that he is “amenable to treatment” and that he would be sentenced as a juvenile. It’s very likely that when he turns 21, Nehemiah will be released from the youth detention facility.

On the afternoon of June 14, 2015, alarming posts were made to 48-year-old Dee Dee Blancharde’s Facebook, one of which read, ‘’That Bitch is dead!’’ Concerned friends contacted police to check up on Dee Dee. That night, police discovered the body of Dee Dee Blancharde inside her Missouri home, laying face-down on her bed in a pool of her own blood. She sustained multiple stab wounds and had been dead for a few days already. There was no sign of her daughter, Gypsy Rose, who, according to Dee Dee, suffered from a plethora of chronic illnesses, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy, and epilepsy. On top of this, she apparently had mild mental retardation. Gypsy Rose’s wheelchair and medication were still in the house, suggesting a possible abduction. But only one day later, police tracked down Gypsy Rose in Wisconsin where she had traveled with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, whom she met online. Thankfully, Gypsy Rose was alive and well, but police were surprised to see that she could, in fact, walk just fine, and didn’t appear sick at all. Gypsy Rose and her boyfriend were arrested. It was discovered that, from the time Gypsy Rose was a child all the way into her early 20s, her mother passed her off as mentally and physically ill, forcing her to be in a wheelchair and regularly shaving her head to resemble a chemotherapy patient. Dee Dee would subject her to physical abuse if she did not comply. Everyone who knew Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose fell for the facade, including her own father, who did not live with them. It is believed that Dee Dee had Münchausen syndrome by proxy, in which a caregiver exaggerates or induces illness in a child to garner attention and sympathy.
Gypsy Rose and Nicholas began plotting her mother’s murder, and Nicholas eventually traveled to Springfield and arrived at her home. Gypsy Rose handed him a knife and waited in the bathroom while her boyfriend brutally stabbed her mother to death in her sleep. Gypsy Rose pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is currently serving a 10-year sentence. Nicholas Godejohn is currently awaiting trial for first-degree murder.

Paul Posey was known to be a sadistic man and abusive father. He lived with his wife, Tyrone, in Chavez Canyon Ranch, Hondo, New Mexico, along with his 14-year-old son, Cody, and his stepdaughter. Paul and his wife tormented Cody physically and emotionally on a daily basis. One time, Cody was summoned to his parents’ bedroom where Tyrone awaited on the bed, completely nude. He was ordered to have sex with her as his father watched, but Cody flat-out refused. The boy was finally pushed to the edge when he was hit and berated the next day. He fetched a shotgun and walked behind the couch where his stepmother was sitting, firing twice at the back of her head. His father and stepsister rushed into the house to see what was going on and they, too, were blasted to death. Cody used a backhoe to bury the corpses of his family in a massive pile of manure where he felt they belonged. He eventually confessed to the crime and spent his sentence in juvie until his 21st birthday, when he walked out a free man.

“There’s an accident. There’s, like, little kids. The kid’s not moving. There’s a whole bunch of kids.. Honestly, the car’s smashed,” announced a distressed caller to the Briarcliff Manor, New York, 911 operator on the 26th of July, 2009.
Several hours earlier, 36-year-old Diane Schuler left the Hunter Lake Campground with her 5-year-old son, Bryan and 2-year-old daughter, Erin, as well as her brother’s three daughters, 8-year-old, Emma, 7-year-old, Alyson, and 5-year-old Kate. Diane drove a red minivan while her husband, Danny Schuler, left in a separate car. When Diane departed, both Danny and the campground owner said that she seemed perfectly sober. Two hours after departing, Diane called her brother, Wayne, and told him they were delayed by traffic. Shortly afterwards, a motorist saw Diane at the side of the road; she appeared to be vomiting.
Two hours later, Emma called Wayne from Diane’s phone. She said that “there’s something wrong with aunt Diane.” Her sister’s could be heard crying in the background. She said Diane was disorientated and that she couldn’t see. Wayne told Diane to pull over at the side of the road and said he would come and meet them. After hanging up, for reasons unknown, Diane left her phone at the side of the road, got back into the car, and drove towards the Taconic State Parkway ramps.
At around 1:30PM, the 911 phone calls started to arrive. The first couple relayed that they had seen a red minivan edging onto the northbound ramp. Moments later, a flood of 911 Falls reported a violent collision at milepost 4.2 on the Taconic State Parkway. Diane had driven southbound on the northbound highway for almost 2 miles before smashing head on into an SUV while driving at 85 miles per hour. Inside the SUV was father and son, 81-year-old Michael Bastardi, 49-year-old Guy Bastardi and their friend, 74-year-old Daniel Longo.
Everybody except for 5-year-old Brian died at the scene. The children were not in car seats and were not wearing seat belts.
According to her husband and family, she was a devoted mother who was extremely responsible. People began to question what could have gone wrong? They speculated that Diane could have had a stroke or a heart attack behind a wheel. However, when searching the wreckage, an empty 1.75-litre vodka bottle was discovered. An autopsy concluded that Diane’s blood alcohol level was .19% - the equivalent of 10 shots of 80% liquor. A large quantity of marijuana was also discovered in her system.
Following this revelation, Diane’s husband completely rejected the scientific evidence, claiming Diane was only a social drinker. She would never have drove drunk he contented. Even to this day, he denies Diane was at fault for the fatal crash. This, of course, has disgusted the family members of those who died in the crash. His denial has only caused more heartache. At some point that day, Diane chose to guzzle a bottle of vodka with five children in her car and ultimately, that killed seven innocent people.
The documentary, There’s Something Wrong with Aunt Diane, details the case.

14-year-old Jodi Jones was “chuffed” to be allowed to see her boyfriend, 14-year-old Luke Mitchell on the 30th of June, 2003. She had recently been punished for smoking cannabis and ditching school. When Jodi didn’t return home later, her mother, Judith, contacted Luke who told her that he hadn’t seen Jodi at all. He volunteered to help in the search for her while Judith called around her friends to see if any of them had seen her. When Judith couldn’t find anybody who had seen her daughter, she called the police.
At approximately 23:30 that night, her mutilated body was discovered in a wooded area behind a wall on the secluded Roan’s Dyke footpath in Dalkeith, Midlothian by Luke. She had been brutally stabbed to death. Judith had told Jodi not to travel this footpath on her own but she would sometimes meet Luke at the entrance. After her body was found, Judith went to Luke’s home to comfort him. She believed he was the grieving boyfriend but would soon discover that this was false.
Suspicion soon fell onto Luke who had managed to find her body hidden behind a wall in the pitch black. He knew exactly where to go. He told police he had been home alone that evening between 17:00 and 17:45 but this alibi was contradicted when Luke’s brother said he was home alone between those times and that Luke wasn’t there. A witness came forward to say she had seen Luke with a young girl at Roan’s Dyke at around 16:55. Police discovered a knife pouch which was marked “JJ 1989-2003” and “The finest day I ever had was when tomorrow never came.” During his trial, the prosecution argued that this was a bizarre way to commemorate somebody who was killed with a knife. His defence argued that all of the evidence against Luke was circumstantial and that he could not be tied to the murder with DNA.
Luke Mitchell was found guilty and sentenced to a minimum of 20 years before being eligible for parole. To this day, Luke still denies any involvement in Jodi’s murder.
