Grevilleas come from genus Grevillea

There are 350 native species found only in Australia. Grevilleas are grown to shrub size and the tallest is the Grevillea robusta, commonly known as Silky Oak which grows up to a 40cm height. It produces masses of golden-yellow flowers in spring. Most Grevilleas grow in different climates, you would find them growing in dry vegetation, rocky environments and lush rainforests. They are an excellent garden shrubs with showy and amazing flowers in various stunning colours.

Crimson Bottlebrush, Callistemon citrinus is one of Australia's native plants. Stunning crimson coloured shrub.

Scientific name: Callistemon citrinus

Common names: Crimson bottlebrush, common red, Lemon bottlebrush.

Callistemon citrinus come from myrtle family and Callistemon genera. There are 40 different Callistemon species in Australia and they make beautiful addition to any garden which is great for birdscaping. However, Callistemon can be confused with Melaleuca genus because they are closely related and can be difficult to distinguish between the two. Few differentiation in characteristics; Callistemon have rough bark texture and stringy compared to Melaleuca, stamen are longer-creating cylindrical flower spikes which are larger in diameter, flowers are red and bright yellow, leaves have lateral veins. Whereas, Melaleuca have papery bark texture and have frequent longitudinal leaf venation.

Callistemon citrinus prefers moist locations in low-laying areas. They are most commonly found near coastline.

Distribution: Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Ecology : attracts nectorvores

Phenotypic characteristics : rough bark texture, flowers have bottlebrush- like appearance( measure up to 15cm), individual flowers are made up of a number of crimson coloured stamens. Fruit is cup-shaped which measures up to 6mm in diameter, when it matures it turns woody. Seeds are released via the valves at the top of the capsules. Interestingly old capsules will not fall and can remain on branches for years. Leaves have alternate arrangement up to 8cm, strongly scented and rigid in texture. Midrib yellowish colour on the underside and lateral veins are present, and oily glands are clearly visible.

Change occurs every second of our lives, you may notice it or may not. Today's sunset may have different hues to last month's sunset. Not every day is the same. Not every moment of your life is the same. You are not the same each day because you change with time. Your perspective of life and the world shift with time and space. Realise this and acknowledge each day.

Speak up, reach out!

Do you ever listened to a small voice inside your head, a small one? Do you hear it too? It grows bigger has time passes by. In each moment the voice repeats itself over, and over and over. Then it becomes many, many voices. Does it feel noisier inside your head too? Listen! When you listen closely it tells you the same thing over and over. It repeats! Now, what do you do? Nothing! You do nothing

Then these voice become pain, strong pain it hurts inside. You want it to stop but the more you think about it, it overwhelms you. You desperately want to put a band-aid on but you could not find a wound. A wound only your heart can feel it. Isn't that what the heart does? It feels right? These voice wants to creep out, what do you do?

It gives you mixed feelings, some highs and some lows. The pain, you want to make it stop so you numb it. You get high for only a little while. You do it again, again and again because it feels good. But does it shut the voice completely? No, it doesn't

Now, you feel so small, so small that nothing matters. You look around, nothing makes sense. The pain inside hurts too much nothing matters. You get so deep, you do not care anymore. You careless to even matter. You shut every one out. Afraid they will pick at the wound. So you push them away. You want to be alone.

This is what the voice does, it takes away your power. It leaves you helpless. There is no way of getting out. You are in the deep!

When the voice visits you too, listen! Listen to the voice carefully, give your undivided attention. Feel it! What language does it speak? What does it want? Why is it here? Find the root. Do something, don't do nothing.

Do not let it repeat in your head, do not let it grow its roots. Do not let it take a moment from you. Speak up, reach out! You can reach out you know. In fact that is what you going to do, you speak up and reach out.
