there are several reasons as to why i prefer movie!spot but probably the biggest factor is that a relatively unassuming lanky looking white 14-16 y/o filled with bloodlust is so much scarier to me than mister buff guy who just kind of stands there. you expect this short stacked guy to be scary and beat the shit out of you but nothing is scarier than a teenager who can immediately clock all your personal weaknesses/insecurities and use them for evil
Race and Albert are The Worst people to ever go on a roadtrip with. Because it's a 9/10 possiblity that everyone is crammed into Race's car, and if neither Race nor Albert are driving, they're backseat driving and complaining that everyone else drives like a grandma. Because Race and Albert drive like they're on the run and the speed limit is a suggestion. Road rage is included. And overall they just Suck.
because @daveysjackie and i both love pinoy spot (clarice we miss you), naturally we had to expand on her life and gave her siblings. a lot of my other thoughts about her comes from here!Ā
they are marisol, tala, and sean col-long at birth
ages in canon are 17, 13, and 9 respectivelyĀ
marisol: sunflower in tagalog; before moving up to new york from the south, their motherās favorite flowers were the narrowleaf sunflower. a beautiful plant thatās able to thrive in difficult conditions, a sentiment she hopes is passed onto her firstborn
tala: bright star in tagalog; like many others, the stars were an important guide that got their ancestors to america, strong and bright, grounding. the second-born, rounding out their little family and becoming a new star in the col-long constellationĀ
sean: āgod is graciousā in irish; while not filipino in origin, their parentsā faith in god is a large part of their lives, so it seemed fitting to honor their third and final child after the faith thatās kept them together and strong as a family (also itād be a crime to not keep sean conlon in the mix somehow)
when they move to new york, their last name becomes anglicized to conlon to assimilate a little betterĀ Ā
I'm going to say something a little controversial:
I don't think Ariana should have been cast as Glinda (that isn't the controversial part) contrary to some opinions that I've seen, I have total faith that she can NAIL Glinda's vocals. She has an incredible voice, that's kind of a fact, her range is very impressive. I do not, however, trust her with the acting or nuance needed to play Glinda, especially with her using the Cat voice.
Ariana isn't a terrible actress, she's decent, but you need to be able to pull off an "obviously feeling 5 polar opposite and distinct emotions at once while successfully covering them with a smile" to play the role. Plenty of Broadway Glinda's haven't been able to do that, very few acknowledge that she's angry and grieving during NoMtW, she legitimately just watched her best friend die in front of her, something I think truly makes a wonderful Glinda wonderful. Thank Goodness is a very complicated song, Glinda is seriously going through it and trying to hide the fact she's on the verge of having a total breakdown in front of a giant crowd she's meant to be cheering up and encouraging. She's trying to convince others that she is happy when she can't even convince herself.
Glinda isn't an easy role to play, it's a heavy responsibility. It's even harder when trying to play with the dumb blonde trope while also displaying the fact that Glinda is deeply intelligent, she just knows that that's not going to get her very far. As she knows, in Oz the most important is being popular.
āMusicals are badā āmusicals are overratedā they are amazing and they have brought us some of the greatest songs, plays and movies ever1 and some of you just hate having a good time
