So first and foremost, while 6 out of 6 patches not addressing Wyll's content disparity is important, it may also be good to provide more details into the other ways Larian has fallen short with Wyll, the overall anti-blackness that is present in this fandom, and so on. As some examples: How Wyll has less romance scenes than other companions, does not have an on screen sex scene, does not have a romance greeting, and even in the epilogues (which were made post-game) you are not able to hug and kiss him. He is the only companion who you can neither hug or kiss (everyone else you can do one or both of those two things). It is a common issue in media featuring a black character where they are either over or under sexualized. In Wyll's case it is certainly the latter, whether intentional or not.

How Wyll lacks agency in his own story and is the only origin companion to not be able to make his own choice during the climax of his act 3 questline. There is a huge content disparity between between Wyll and the other companions/origins that Larian has yet to address despite adding more content to both companions who have plenty an other NPCs. The only updates he receives are the ones that are universal to everyone (kisses and epilogues) and even then he is still treated disproportionately. Wyll's trauma has been sexualized and downplayed. Despite scenes in both early access and the full game making it clear that Mizora (an implied white woman) is essentially a slaver to Wyll (a black man) it is quite common in both the fandom and from Larian themselves to imply that Wyll is or should be sexually attracted to Mizora such as in the animation commissioned by Larian, Larian staff gleefully retweeting the Hard Drive article that included a part satirizing Wyll's relationship to Mizora (which, satire or otherwise was in extreme poor taste, especially considering the fandom's overall racism and the fact that the comments were mostly people unironically agreeing with it), and so on. The general anti-blackness of the fandom and such as artists excluding just Wyll from art pieces containing 'every' character, Larian leaving Wyll out of the majorly of their advertising, the constant talking over of black people in the fandom, the preferential treatment towards white characters in both patch updates and general fandom attention, and so on.

Larian Does NOT Handle Abuse Well

Within the span of two days, Larian has promoted the removal of Gale's (a victim of grooming, emotional abuse, and being used by someone with an extreme power dynamic over him, might I remind you) consent twice. In patch 6 they made it easier to manipulate and pressure him into group sex while doing nothing to change all the lines expressing discomfort (other than removing his ability to bring it up after). They also posted a gif to their Twitter without warning of him bring non-consensually choked and kissed while looking terrified.

Imagine if they posted spawn Astarion looking scared while he was hurt and forced into submission while being kissed by someone with extreme power over him.

Not to mention Larian's lead writer implied that, because Gale is annoying (read: autistic coded) that him blowing up at the whims of his abuser is a good and fitting ending for him.

Now imagine it Larian was like "Actually Astarion returning to Cazador and submitting to him is a fitting ending because he was kinda mean and he was causing trouble so it's the best for everyone :)"

Additionally, they have continued to sexualize the clearly abusive and one sided relationship between Wyll and Mizora (a black man and the white woman who manipulated him as a child and now keeps him on a leash and abuses him), evident most recently in the Christmas animation.

Imagine if Larian was repeatedly making jokes and insinuations about Astarion and Cazador fucking or Astarion secretly being attracted to him.

DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEMS NOW???

Y'all run around praising this game for how it handled abuse but really this game and this company handles abuse terribly and their marketing is triggering and insensitive to abuse victims and basically no one wants to bother talking about it! Frustrating...

what yall know about cowboy Wyll

i know wyll could be referring to any/all of the camp conversations when he says he misses the heart to hearts around the fire in the epilogue, but i think he deserves a little scene for it now. like imagine how sweet that could be for both a platonic and romantic route ! let me have a deep conversation with him about how managed to not grow bitter after he was forced to leave his father, his home, and everything he knew behind !! let me find out if he really set off to be a hero bc he felt it was the right thing to do/the morals his father instilled in him or if maybe part of him was hopeful that his father would hear of all the things he was doing and accept him in his life again !! or was he just trying to seek validation from anyone at that point bc he was so young and just lost his strongest source of it !! i know we get a few comments about it here and there but imagine how comforting he could be to others who have complicated relationships with their parents if that aspect of him was expanded a bit more in a touching scene

i really feel like they could have easily added in an option for wyll to decide what to do about his pact/father in this last patch since they added the option for lae'zel to decide what to do for herself at the end of the game. yes, he can decide whether he becomes the blade of avnerus or the duke on his own but 1. i'm pretty sure the dialogue is still bugged and he'll make the choice twice if you save his father after getting him out of his pact 2. his pact and fate of his father is just as, if not more important to his story so the fact that he doesn't get a say in it feels like a huge disservice to him. i mean as it is now, you don't even have to pass a persuasion check to get him out of his pact (which would make sense imo since his disregard for his own needs persists throughout the game), he just does whatever you say in regards to a choice that greatly impacts his future

i know very little in terms of what goes into making a video game and adding stuff to it but i’m pretty sure at 6 patches they could do the bare minimum and give wyll more greetings 😕not even just in terms of romance but in general too. he’s one of the more openly friendly and romantic characters so having him greet the player with “well met” even as his approval goes up or the relationship evolves feels so off

Will you look at that - a petition to spread far and wide through the BG3 fandom and beyond so Larian Studios might actually, finally, be pressured into fixing the content for Wyll.
