For the meta thing: What would your Shadow have been like in the events of Frontiers?

But! Once again your asks prompts allow me to dump some info that's been rattling around in my brain for ages, thanks for this 'v'

I think there's a bit of a gaping hole in Frontier's story. A Team-Dark-Shaped hole. SURELY they would've noticed all the chaos emeralds being drawn into one place - even if they don't work for GUN anymore, even if GUN kind of dissolved after Eggman wrecked them in Forces, there's Rouge and her uncanny gem sense as well as Shadow generally being tuned into chaos energy itself. They'd have to have known SOMETHING was up, and it'd be too weird for them to NOT look into it.

To anyone who's gonna say 'but team dark isn't a thing anymore', quiet, or I'll eat your head.

What happens next depends on whether Team Dark actually get sucked into cyberspace like Team Sonic were. Cyberspace seems to be kind of like a hell-limbo mixed with forced disassociation. Amy's experience was constant disorientation, I can't remember Knuckles' but Tails' was straight up another version of himself insulting him and making him feel like a failure. So I think Shadow's stay in cyberspace would be... Unpleasant. If one's personal cyberspace experience draws from their own fears and insecurities, I think Shadow's would exasperate his feelings of being some kind of monster. Maybe this would be him literally turning into one, or being tormented by another version of himself- if we want to be cruel we could have Maria be the form that's used by Cyberspace, and have her basically say all the things Shadow is afraid she’d think if she saw him now.

You know what? I'm writing this as a stream-of-consciousness thing so I'm gonna say that a vision of Maria tearing into Shadow by repeating all the awful things he thinks about himself is better than the monster thing. Let's go with that. Fanon interpretation would probably be that Shadow did have all the problems and flaws that Cyber-Maria said but that's not the intention here! The problem here is that Shadow feels that way about himself so badly that he'd let it taint the memory of someone who had nothing but love for him. It kind of loops around to almost being selfish in a way. Almost.

After being let out of the hell orb™, Shadow would probably be really... I don't know, soft spoken but not in a shy way, just very obviously shaken by what he'd endured. Sonic, already Going Through It and very put off about Shadow not pulling the Ultimate Lecturer (You know he'd berate Sonic over ignoring the cyber corruption and continuing to push himself in a I'm Worried About You But I'm Being Mean About It way if he was feeling okay) shtick would try to get him to open up about his experience because that always helps, right, just to have Shadow push him away... But it's half-hearted pushing away, because Shadow's shaken and also feeling really numb because of the limbo thing.

Oh, the numbness and dissociation would not be unfamiliar to him. It's familiar enough that he's nervous about it, or as nervous as one can be when trapped in a state of pixelly :/-ness.
