Ken wanted him to have as  normal a life as possible—;  but to say it was only that would be a lie.  Sure,  there were concerns about telling the truth,  because the truth was a secret they had to keep,  and Keith was just a kid.  But he could have told Keith  something—  anything!  And he didn’t.  Ken was grieving her loss.  Sure,  she wasn’t dead— yet— but she was gone from their lives.  Ken was a father,  but was also human,  and those were unhealed wounds.  Maybe if he could have told his son the truth,  they could have shared that burden,  and honored her together;  but it was easier to say nothing at all than it was to fabricate a story that would somehow honor his memories of her.
