Summary: After years of managing both duties, Leon finally decided to step down from his position as Minister of Wishes, leaving Karno to deal with a new recruit. Karno is not looking forward to this, but Leon is convinced that finally meeting you will change his mind.

Karno didn’t like his ability. He didn’t think it could be useful until he found out at least one thing he could do with it. Support his soulmate.
He hadn’t met her yet, although sometimes he wished he could, but their link made him capable of feeling good emotions coming from her, and he realized his powers could be used to amplify these feelings in hope they would last longer.
Not that she needed him to. She seemed like such a happy goddess, but sometimes these feelings reached him weakly, and he was glad to help at these times.
And he figured she helped him, too. It didn’t happen as often these days, but whenever he was worried or stressed or just overwhelmed, usually by some problem with work, there was this unexpected sweet scent that helped him relax.
Not that knowing that about her powers helped him find her.
The past few days had been like that. He could feel the rise and fall of her excitement before he decided to intervene. And she answered to his worries, helping him feel better in turn.
And at the moment, he wished he could amplify his own positive feelings about the work matter he had to face later, but he had none.
Leon had decided to step down from his position as minister of the department, and the job now fell on him. But Karno didn’t feel fit for the job, no matter how much hope Leon had in him.
Besides that, Leon had chosen someone else to fill the hole left in the department. Although he had taken that action while he was still minister, he stepped down soon after, and the responsibility over this recruit fell entirely on Karno.
Of course it was his decision to approve the new person or not, but he trusted Leon’s judgment. He wouldn’t have hand-picked someone completely unfit for the job. What Karno didn’t like was the way Leon grinned after telling him, adding that this meeting might be good to him.
“Are you still worried about that?” Leon walked into the office.
“I don’t think any of us were ready for this change. We thought you would stay as minister.”
“Do you doubt my judgement? If you don’t want the job, you and Hue can switch positions. And if the problem is the recruit, I already said the approval is up to you. Although I have the authority to, I won’t interfere.”
“I don’t doubt you. I don’t like it, but I have no doubt you made the choices you thought would be better for the department.”
“Then I don’t know why you are worried. This will be good for you.” Leon turned to leave, but stopped, and his next words were not directed to Karno. “And you’re here on time. Don’t disappoint me.”
The person didn’t respond, but Karno knew it was the recruit, even before Leon left and she knocked on the door, despite it being open.
“Come in.” He called. “Just give me a minute to finish these papers.”
“Excuse me.” A feminine voice answered politely.
A goddess was not what he expected. It was more than he wanted to deal with if he was being honest. He couldn’t think he could trust Teo around a woman at all, and whether he could or not trust Lou was up for debate. And considering he already wouldn’t trust her introduction to the job to Aigo, that meant the task would be left for either him or Hue.
His thoughts were interrupted by a snap, followed by the sweet, calming scent from his soulmate’s powers.
He turned to finally face you, who looked shocked by the chain of events, but slowly he felt a wave of happiness through your link.
You noticed he was looking and blushed, but took a deep breath and tried to keep your composure, but apparently failed by the way you looked away.
“Lord Karno. Can I ask an impertinent question?” You looked back with hesitation.
“Go ahead.”
“Is this why I was invited to this interview?”
“No. Leon no doubt knew who you were when he first saw you, but he would never offer such an important position to someone he didn’t find capable.” You nodded and all your hesitancy seemed to disappear. “And neither am I welcoming you because of that, nor will I treat you any differently. I will trust Leon’s judgment on your abilities, and expect you to report to me in the morning to start your work.”
“Yes, lord Karno.” You bowed to him.
“And you don’t need all this formality, even at work. You are one of us now.” He smiled. You looked surprised, but smiled back and nodded.
“Thank you. I won’t let you down.”
“Then welcome to the Department of Wishes…”
You told him your name, and he repeated it slowly, then welcomed you properly.
“Now, since we are done here, do you have any other compromise?”
“No. Why?”
“I would like a date to get to know my soulmate.” He approached and took your hand.
Your smile grew as you intertwined your fingers.
“I would be happy to. I would love to know you too.”
Karno couldn’t believe you had been brought to him in such a way. That his wish would be realized due to his work. It would be strange to work with his soulmate, but he was determined to make both relationships work.

Your first sight when waking up was your boyfriend’s face and the relieved smile he gave you when you woke up.
Karno was sitting on a chair by the bed
“How long was I out for?” You asked, sitting up. It felt like no time at all.
“Four days. I was worried something had gone wrong.”
“Is that even possible?” You laughed.
“Leon said it isn’t, but I would only be able to rest when I saw you were okay by myself. How are you feeling?”
“Weird. And strangely tired.”
“That’s normal for your first few days. You might take some time adjusting.”
Karno moved to sit on the edge of the bed, and you snuggled up to him, only to be caught in a tight embrace.
“You were that worried?” You asked softly, giving him a quick peck on the lips.
“I just missed you. We haven’t spent that long without talking to each other for a while. I forgot how lonely that felt.”
He actually sounded a little embarrassed at the admission that he was feeling lonely, so you hugged him back, chuckling.
“Well, look at it this way. From now on, you’ll never be alone anymore.” You kissed his temple.
Karno sighed and laid down, pulling you almost on top of him.
“Sometimes I worry about what it cost you for this.”
“You agreed to it.” You reminded, gently kissing him. “I thought it was because you trusted me. I knew the consequences of my choice, but you know what I had to sacrifice was small compared to what both of us gained from this.”
Your job was the only thing holding you back on Earth, and it was a small sacrifice to stand by your husband’s side for the rest of time, instead of cursing him with the weight of your death.
“I do trust you. That’s why I didn’t try to convince you not to do this. I knew it was your decision to accept Leon’s offer or not.”
“It wasn’t. It was a decision that affects both of us. That was why I asked you. I already told you not to go along with things because I decided.”
Karno chuckled, caressing your cheek, before pulling you closer for a kiss.
“I didn’t. I really was fine with this change, and that was because you changed me. It was your choice, but if it had happened earlier, I don’t think I would have been able to accept it so easily. I didn’t need you to change for me, but I wasn’t as against the idea as I’ve been. I love you, and it wasn’t only because you were human. You’re the only person I could ever love, no matter what you chose to be.” Karno pulled you completely on top of him this time, giving you a quick kiss. “Now rest, my love.”
He pulled you down to lie down on his chest. You wanted to protest, but your body didn’t respond to your attempts to pull yourself up.
“Are you really going to stay like this?”
“As long as you won’t sleep for another four days.” He chuckled, caressing your hair with one hand, and the other took one of your hands, intertwining your fingers, before he pulled it to kiss the back of your hand. “We’ll have a lot of time together once you adjust.”
As much time as you wanted.
“See you tomorrow, then.” You whispered, tightening your hold on his hand. “I love you.”
You snuggled to him and let sleep claim you.

A/N: I was listening to "King Of My Heart" by Taylor Swift, while writing this DFKSNFSFKNL
Prompt: [ wedding ] a romantic kiss shared during a wedding ceremony

A crowd of fine clothes and jewels, along with pearly smiles slipped into the marble temple, that looked like a big pavilion. Some sat down on the chairs overlooking the center of the altar, where the groom was standing, alone for the time being.
"What a beautiful setting!" You said, your eyes like gems sitting out on the balcony and sucking in all the sunrays. "It reminds me of the Heavens."
Partheno smiled at your words, sparing a single glance around him, before his rosé eyes retreated back within your own. "It is tasteful, I must admit." He simply said and raised his glass of ruby wine to his lips.
"You didn't even look at the entire thing." You commented, making the corners of his lips quiver into a smile.
His lips curled into the shape of the flower vine crawling and wrapping around the marble pillar behind you and his eyes harbored a charming glint in their bright, crystalline irises. "And miss precious time, which could be used looking at you?" He shook his head, his silky locks entangling in his eyelashes. "No no."
Your lips curled into a smile, which you couldn't suppress. That's what happiness felt like by Partheno's side. Like the beating of a heart and the temperature dropping every September. Inevitable in the best way. Something you couldn't prevent from occurring.
"But now that I think about it," He said, his smile faltering and his eyebrows rising slightly. "I shall look well. Every single detail."
Your eyebrows furrowed softly, wondering what your love had just considered and you hadn't.
"I need to know what your preferences are and have them at our own wedding."
Your eyelashes stood up at his words, which came like a sudden breeze in the middle of a spring afternoon.
Partheno chuckled, his beauty mark rising with his cheek. "Caught you off guard?"
"A... Little." You admitted, swallowing.
With the wineglass in one hand, his other one found its rightful place beneath your chin, his soft fingers slipping around your jaw and gently tilting your head upwards. "Oh, I can imagine you in a wedding dress..." His previously sly smile broke into one of emotionalism, as his breathtaking eyes looked deeply into yours. His eyebrows lowered and his lips parted. "You will look beautiful."
A white flower petal swayed in the air, waltzing through the atmosphere, before landing softly and gracefully upon Partheno's cheek.
Your hand rose to his face, your fingers reaching out for the flower petal, but your beloved's fingers curled around your wrist and he tugged you close, positioning your palm onto his shoulder.
His lips slipped against yours, parting them and remaining there, as if they had just found home between their warmth.
You breathed out through your nose and the flower petal tumbled from his cheek to yours, before falling to the marble floor by your feet.
Partheno's hand slipped across your jaw, his fingers finding entrance into your hair and his thumb grazing your ear. He tilted his head to the side, deepening the kiss and pulled away, when he felt your precious hand pushing against his shoulder.
Your faces parted and your eyes fell, your gaze finding the fallen flower petal, as blood rose higher and higher, causing your cheeks to feel warm and you pursed your lips, which had also turned slightly reddish. "We're in public."
He chuckled and it sounded like a melody, an harp played by the god of music himself. "My love, have I ever told you how ethereal shyness makes you look?"
Your eyes found his for a brief moment, before returning to the white flower petal.
He laughed and you couldn't help it. Just like you couldn't help your heart from beating... You smiled.
