Garani Villa, Fiesole, 1953. One of Renzo Mongiardino’s earliest commissions, the now-decaying house has never been altered. Mongiardino designed the arched staircase in the entryway and had his craftsmen paint its trompe l’oeil pattern of latticework and vines.

Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog of ABBA perform for Sweden at Eurovision in 1974. ABBA’s competition in the song contest included Olivia Newton-John, the UK representative. Newton-John finished fourth; ABBA won.
