Slater lifts the pen from his paper, ending his essay with a delicate stroke and point.
His eyes quickly skim through each word he had written, a small smile growing on his face at the sight of his own work- and the relief of having finished one of his tasks.
Just as he lifts his head to present his homework to his mentor, he sees Descante’s troubled expression, cheek pressed against his curled fist as he sits across him from the table.
“What’s wrong?”
“You were squinting the whole time.”
“Pardon?”
“I’ve been wondering about your eyesight for awhile- you have a pair of glasses in your room, but I barely see you wearing them. Are they a poor fit?”
“That’s-”
Descante sighs- and takes off his own pair of glasses, placing it gently on Slater’s face.
“I’m taking you to the city this weekend to get you a new pair of glasses. For now,”
That worried expression turns into a fond smile.
“Do your readings with these on, alright?”

Slater deserves the world and heaven above, and Descante can only offer himself; and his heart.
And his heart is enough for him.
"Will you stay?" Slater asks pitifully, his eyes wet and red and raw.
Descante looks at him, his ribs aching to hold together the shattering thing inside his chest. Slater asks, heartbreakingly so, if Descante would only stay, and he can only lean in close and keep it to himself,
that he would open his chest up and open each for Slater to be held safe inside if only Slater asked.
"Always, my heart," Descante says, and Slater flushes and pulls himself closer, eyes closed.
"Thank you."
Descante kisses him on the forehead then, his lips spreading into a soft smile against his skin. "I’m always, always here for you."
"...mm. Thank you,"
"I love you, too."

they’re more alike to kyurem than they are to the twin dragons. fitting; the dragons chose them as vessels.
kyurem, bw / ghetsis, bw2
the dragons are the heroes, and the heroes are kyurem, not themselves.

i'd go so far as to say cheren and n are incarnations of the twin heroes, or at least define themselves against each other as heroes in the same vein as the original heroes' self-definition

re: n as the dragon, ghetsis as the hero (to ghetsis)

ghetsis refers to the king of team plasma when speaking of the new legendary hero, but most often he doesn’t name this king.
ghetsis sees himself as the king and hero. n is only accompanying him.
n may be recognized as the hero, and bear the weight associated with the role of the hero, but it’s clear to ghetsis that he’s the real hero. n is more similar to the legendary dragon that gives ghetsis (the hero) his power.

the act of “sacrifice” is only sacrificial in that it ends an ongoing cycle of violence. the sacrificial ritual is “sacrificial” in that it is a substitution for an earlier act of violence.
in this case, the original act of violence is the separation of the original dragon,
violence and the sacred,
& every pair of heroes are substitutes for the dragons.
