I fully understand and appreciate all of the "Gortash is the worst person ever" discussions, and I do think he is in fact the worst most godawful weasel imaginable, but that's what makes it so fun to think about him being down so utterly horrendous for the Dark Urge that he'd let that freak do whatever they wanted to him

We know what it wasn't a big secret to the cult of Bhaal what their Chosen (Durge) is a lil (a lot) obsessed with the Chosen of Bane.
Orin def told everyone who would listen about it, as Balthazar's note on "Prayer for Forgiveness" might imply.
But have we thought about the other side of this?
How many of Bane's servants present at Gortash's coronation saw Durge and went "Ugh, not them again. ANYONE but them. Dark Lord Bane, we serve you well and do not deserve this".
How many of baneites had to watch their Chosen act like a lovesick fool at his own coronation and tried very hard not to cringe?
Like bhaalists were not pleased with their Chosen's affections, but I bet Gortash was INSUFFERABLE with Durge by his side.

one thing I think is really funny about act 3 is that gortash literally just fucking sets eyes on your character like what. twice. and immediately decides "fuck it you're competent I can work with this one". and he genuinely means it too. if you stand your ground with him and agree to an allyship I genuinely think he would've worked with you if he hadn't fucking died at the hands of the absolute. he was READY to be besties with the first non-irritating co-tyrant he could get his hands on that wasn't going to drive him insane.
I absolutely hate his ass for what he did to karlach but nothing can ever overcome the pure comedy of one of THE MAJOR PLAYERS in trying to take over Baldur's Gate with the absolute literally just going :) we're friends now we're going for soft tacos and city domination later at you unprompted

I love the thought of a pre-tadpole Durge X Gortash relationship dynamic where, instead of JUST being incredibly toxic, Gortash actually made them a (marginally) better person.
I am just obsessed with the idea of Faerun’s antichrist being swayed not to begin a fucking APOCALYPSE out of sheer admiration for a certain tyrant.
And I love that tyrant becoming worse when he realizes that the Scion of Bhaal himself will kill for him. Anyone he wants. He has but to say the word.
That would go to Gortash’s head SO fast, I can feel it.
Especially when he realized that, more than killing, he could convince Durge NOT to kill.
TELL ME that man would not get a big ego when he told the SCION OF BHAAL “Don’t kill this person, the plan works best with them alive” AND THE DARK URGE STAYS THEIR HAND.
He would KNOW that their oath not to harm him is in direct opposition to Bhaal’s plan.
At the end of the day, Gortash is worse for having known Durge because of the INTENSE ego boost of having Bhaal’s Scion love him.
And at the end of that same day, The Dark Urge, Bhaal’s Chosen World Ender, chose Gortash over the apocalypse.
Which makes it INCREDIBLY juice if, after the Death of Gortash, Durge decides to take the world for Bhaal after all.
