French Joxter compilation ( CURSED DON’T WATCH AT 3 AM!!!! )

A good while ago, some people on here found out about what Joxter sounded like in the french dub of the 90′s anime through a couple clips. So today, I bring you a compilation of ( almost ) every single time french Joxter speaks…What do you mean you didn’t ask?? You might notice Joxter actually has two different voices here. That’s because his VA was switched with the Muddler’s ( who’s name also changes ) starting from the 2nd episode they appear in for some reason. That or they’re both voiced by the same guy and he forgot which voice went with who. Either way, both sound silly as hell. I guess they saw his red nose and thought “ This guy must sound like a clown “. I mean, they do call him “ Joker “ in this dub, after all.

Update: After having watched more of the french dub, I’m like 99% sure that Joxter’s first voice ( also Muddler’s 2nd voice ) was provided by Jean-Claude Montalban, Snork’s voice actor, who is also the narrator, while his 2nd voice ( so Muddler’s first ) is Jacques Ciron, who plays Sniff. 

I think I may or may not like them.

That dream I had once where I was The Joxter

i don’t know if anyone here remembers but years ago I casually said I had a dream like that and never followed up on it. Well, better late than never!

So, like stated, I was in Joxter’s body in that dream, and I wasn’t weirded out by it, in fact there was no like, moment of realization at all. it just felt, normal, comfortable even. If anything the whole thing basically felt like a memory, which, considering I’m literally a Joxter kinnie, isn’t that surprising, although I didn’t know it back then.

Now for how the dream went, It started as I was walking towards Moominhouse at night, and there were people behind and next to me which I couldn’t really see due to how dark it was. We soon arrived at the house and were kinda hiding on the side. I remember looking behind me and finally being able to see Hodgkins, Muddler, Fuzzy, Mymble, and at least a couple of her kids. Moominmamma opened the door in a way that clearly showed she had been waiting for us, before informing Moominpappa of our presence and letting us discreetly enter. We all greeted the both of them and thanked them for our stay. Mymble and I decided to go look for Moomin to greet him too, being that he’s such a good friend of Snufkin’s  ( and also out of basic politeness, really ) while I’m pretty sure the others stayed in the entrance room to discuss with Pappa, As we finally found Moomin upstairs, he ran towards me and tackle-hugged me, almost making me lose balance. Turns out he mistook me for Snufkin, thinking his friend had come back from his trip a little early. He was still happy to see us, though.

The three of us went back downstairs, and I believe I recall Muddler grabbing both my hands and leading me towards the entrance room’s couch, where Fuzzy was already sitting. He sat next to her and I sat on his right, with Mymble by my side as well. I remember resting my  head onto her while still holding Muddler’s paws. We were all tired from the trip and needed some rest.

And this is where the dream ended. Though there were some details that weren’t explicitly shown or explained in it that I still just, “ knew “. Y’know, typical dream memory stuff. I know for a fact this was not supposed to symbolize our first reunion with the Moomin family like in the books. This dream took place after that, where we had made it kind of a tradition to visit all together every year. I don’t think it was that many years in though, heck, it might have been our first time doing it after the initial reunion. I also know it was the very end of winter. Most of the snow had melted and Snufkin was supposed to come back the next day.. As for Sniff and little My, they weren’t in the house that night, but surely the Moomin parents had already planned a way to have everyone home the day after we slept over. Well, that’s it! It wasn’t anything incredible but it’s still a “ memory “ that feels special to me and that it was about time I shared!

Headcanon: Joxter is a medium/clairvoyant ( New stuff added! )

Sooo, in addition to being a Joxter kinnie, I’m also a spiritist, with things like ghosts and divination being apart of my beliefs, and while reading Exploits of Moominpappa/Moominpappa’s Memoirs and rewatching the episodes of the 90’s anime in which Joxter is present, I’ve come to form and really like the idea mentioned above.

Now of course, everyone in the Moomin universe seems to be able to see and talk to ghosts. When I say Joxter is a medium/clairvoyant, I mean that he has a special connection to them that makes him able to sense/understand them more than the average person and get messages from them.

Here are the points this headcanon is based on:

In Exploits Of Moominpappa, Joxter is said to have premonitions, or forebodings, as he calls them, which are shown to turn out true.

In that same book, Joxter is the first of his friends to sense the presence of the island ghost.

In the revised version of Exploits, Moominpappa’s Memoirs, he is said to be in disbelief when the ghost arrives, but the way it’s phrased makes it sound more like it’s the fact Moominpappa was able to bring a ghost that’s surprising to him, rather than the ghost itself. He’s also the one to ask the ghost what his ramblings about forgotten bones mean, who’s bones he’s even talking about, etc. I like to believe this is him trying to figure out more about the ghost’s past life and what could be holding him back on earth. ( I currently can’t provide english pictures for those parts though since I’m reading the book in french, sorry! )

Adding to this, notice how on both version of this illustration, Joxter is the closest to the ghost, though each version gives off a different vibe.In the first one he’s like “ stay back guys I got this. “, while in the 2nd he’s kinda just chill, but I find both kinda give the impression he’s already familiar with ghosts.

In the 90’s anime, he’s shown using playing cards. While that method is probably not as well known as tarot, it is possible to do card readings with those ( my mom does that, actually! ).

Still in the anime, in episode 13, Snufkin shows belief in card reading ( around the 12 minutes mark ). Perhaps he got that from his father, who knows?

Note that I’m not claiming that this is what Tove or the people working on the 90’s anime intended. I’m just giving my reasoning behind this headcanon! These points I brought up are more like inspirations rather than “ proof ”. It’s also possible that there are more points going in favor or even against the idea. Though honestly, even if it turns out to be the latter, I don’t care much. With all the divergences there are throughout the different Moomin canons, one can basically just cherry-pick what they like and make their own!

Little update! I came across a different french translation for Moominpappa’s Memoirs where Joxter is named “ Juxeron “. That one doesn’t actually mean anything as far as I’m aware.

Joxter’s french name

I’ve known for years that Joxter’s name in the 90′s anime’s french dub was  “ Joker ” ( Yes, society ) which is weird and kinda ridiculous, but I just found out what his name apparently is in the french translation of the book. It’s “ Flegmar “, a pun on “ flemmard “, a word used to describe someone who doesn’t like making a lot of efforts and would be considered lazy. I guess it’s fitting.

Not long ago, I re-read an old Moomin fic I wrote back in 2015 that was about Snufkin and Joxter's reunion. I never posted it online, but would love to rewrite it at some point, now that both my writing and english skills have gotten better.

With my medium/clairvoyant Joxter headcanon in mind, imagine pregnant Mymble asking him for a card reading, knowing very well the cards are gonna tell him about Snufkin’s arrival. Quite the original way of finding out you’re gonna be a father.
