i have this image in my head where it's a clockers family dinner + mumbo (cuz yk.. he's scar bf) and minus etho because absent dad yah yah yah

and cleo absolutely loves mumbo because he always offers to help clean and stuff, compliments the food and he's really awkward whenever he's the one getting complimented and cleo thinks it's adorable. and that mumbo and scar are just adorable together.

and sometimes they do movie nights with them all cuddled up on the sofa.

and cleo always puts on horror movies (she smiles during the whole thing whilst the other three are shit scared)

scar puts on musicals, (things like heathers recordings, hamilton, rocky horror, things like that) and mumbo goes with it.

and bdubs puts on action films (like fast and furious or stuff like that)

And mumbos afraid of every single one. Even the musics

mumbo = blind

scar = not blind

mumbo hates going off server because of the people and stuff and he doesn't know where anything is. scar usually links him by the arm and leads him, but mumbo uses a cane aswell.

scar goes to the bathroom or something and tells mumbo to wait outside, which he does.

and then some absolute KNOB HEADS walk past him and are waving in his face to see if he can see, and then start yelling and clapping down his ears.

mumbo gets quickly overwhelmed and emotional and he wants to leave but he can't because he doesn't know where he'd end up and he can't go anywhere at ease without scar. scar comes back a few minutes later and shoos the others off.

mumbo is silently crying at this point and is begging scar to let them go back to the hermitcraft server, which they do and scar tries to cheer him up as much as possible.

cooks his favourite dinner for him, offers to shower with him, listens to music with him. but nothings really working because mumbo is already very insecure about being blind.

(mumbo went blind due to a redstone incident)

in the end, the two talk about it, curled up to one another like cats and end up sleeping it off, but mumbo doesn't really go off-world after that

i imagine scar and mbo to be two completely different people when it comes to mornings

scar is up at the crack of dawn because he goes to bed early and is trying to wake up mumbo

mumbo wakes up at like 11am if not woken up by scar, and just wants to stay in bed the whole morning and cuddle scar

This but the opposite. Mumbo needs his routine so wakes up at 7:30 on weekdays and 8:30 on weekends. Scar gets our of bed whenever Jellie begs him too (probably at 10 am)

imagine scar comforting mumbo after last life, because it was mumbo's first time and grian - his best friend - was the one that killed him.

but comforting him specifically with pressing his head to his chest, forcing mumbo to listen to his heartbeat, scar's hands in mumbo's hair, whispering sweet nothings and rubbing his back with the other hand.

And then also Mumbo comforting Scar because Scar was alone. I also imagine Scar feeling unwillingly resentful to Mumbo because he was the first to leave him

If he strains his eyes hard enough, he can sort of make out that the dotty figure is wearing a suit, and his hair isn't too long.'

so

basically

i have this au where mumbo is a ghost. and at the start of the seasons, the server was hardcore. so, if you died, there was no respawn at all. so basically like real death, ykwim? and, xisuma and mumbo where in the end and mumbo accidently ended up falling into the void on accident whilst studying the end (basically the end wasn't a place people went too very often and mumbo wanted to know more about it)

and so he perma-dies and becomes a ghost and lives in the end. he can travel from season to season on different servers because his code is still linked to it and stuff (ifthatmakessenseidk)

and ever since then, xisuma only let's a certain few into the end, basically the only ones who actually knew who mumbo was. and he died about the end of season 3, so it's people like doc, cleo, etho, joe, etc.

and xisuma was really really close with mumbo. they had a father-son relationship and they were really close. (i'll elaborate more on this in a bit)

and after the incident, xisuma is absolutely racked with guilt. he is absolutely destroyed because he feels so bad and he feels like he has failed as an admin and he's basically killed his son, so survivours guilt. he remembers the exact day it happens, and in the days leading up to that and the day itself, he has a bit of a spiral, closes himself off from everyone else, doesn't leave his base, overworks himself dry, things like that. none of the other hermits know about this other than the ones i mentioned before. and because he feels so guilty, he introduces respawn in the start of season four.

and none of the hermits that joined after season three know that mumbo was there and that it wasn't respawn. they decided to keep it a secret, partially because it hurt too much to talk about at the time and they thought it was better off if they didn't know.

so time skip, a few years go by and scar is on the server. scar is a little like mumbo in this sense, in that he's very very interested in the end and space and all of that.

and he tries to tell xisuma and he tries to get xisuma's permission to go with doc or someone else qualified to go with them too the end, but xisuma always denies him (in fear of basically him getting hurt, even though respawn exists, it's still always in the back of his mind, stuff like that)

so scar decided to just go on his own, since he's never been and is literally tired of waiting.

so once he gets there, he's instantly fascinated. because he's so interested in things like space and astronomy and the void shares a lot of qualities with space, he's instantly hooked. he's writing stuff down, walking around and then he finds mumbo.

mumbo looks very different, now. he's transparent, he glows and he's fully light blue, aswell as his whole eyes. so scar is instantly freaked out and soon learns that mumbos a ghost. one problem is that mumbo can't talk (itty bitty angst reason why, he screamed whilst falling, the void shredded his vocal chords)

they can't communicate in sign language since scar knows asl and mumbo knows bsl, mumbo can't write anything down because his hand goes through anything he touches. so scar basically makes a fake ouija board. he writes down the letters of the alphabet and a few grammar stuff and they communicate like that.

they do this frequently, every night. 00:00 to about 02:00am and it becomes a routine. mumbo and scar eventually end up becoming really good friends.

then one day, scar brings up the idea of mumbo potentially going up to the overworld (where they live and stuff), and so they do. in the day time, mumbo walks (or rather floats) around with scar. and no one else can see him. they run across grian, pearl, impulse, tango and no one else can see him.

and then they find xisuma. xisuma can't see mumbo, but mumbo instantly panics and runs away back to the end. scar doesn't see him for about a week after that, despite visiting and trying to get him to come out

and during that week, scar makes the extremely bad error of asking xisuma about mumbo. basically, they're both in scarland in the little toyshop and scar bites the bullet and asks if he's ever heard of someone named mumbo.

xisuma instantly freezes up and is looking at him like he's just seen a ghost (haha im so funny /j) xisuma becomes frantic with anxiety and is asking him how he knows mumbo, where he's heard of him, who told him. things like that. scar then proceeds to tell him that he went to the end without permission and saw him, saw that he's a ghost, etc.

xisuma doesn't believe him and just asks again who told him and if anyone else knows, and scar just repeats the truth over and over again. it gets to the point where he has to text doc about it, to come and get him and calm him down. and so doc does, he gets keralis to take him back to his base and calm his nerves down.

and in this au, doc is very protective. xisuma is one if his best friends, he isn't going to let whatever scar said slide. so he sits scar down at a table and asks what he said, and so scar says the truth. and at the mention of mumbo, doc has a similar reaction, except he isn't as frantic and xisuma. he's a little more calm and surprised, maybe a little nervous, but he doesn't let that show. he asks scar things like what he looks like and he explains the best he can. and in the end, he asks scar to show him, and so he does.

he visites the perimeter at midnight and takes doc to the end. once they get there, they don't see a mumbo. they look everywhere, until doc is the one that finds him eventually. floating in mid air, a small ender dragon baby at his side. mumbo coaxes it away with small, strained hums (the best his vocal chords can manage) and floats down to docs level. mumbo is almost in tears and doc is just stunned.

doc tries to touch him, but his hand ends up going through mumbos shoulder. and mumbo is *freezing.* because of a collection of the void and end are cold and dead bodies go cold when they die. and doc tries to talk to him, but all mumbo can do is look at him longingly.

scar ends up finding them after a bit and he uses the same technique as before. uses a fake ouija board that he had written out and they talk for a small while, but mumbo is asking the questions this time. he obviously can't ask full questions, but he can do things like 'c-l-e-o-?' and 'e-t-h-o-?' and doc answers the best he can.

eventually, mumbo asks about xisuma. doc tells him about how much guilt xisuma feels and how much he misses mumbo. mumbo feels guilty aswell and decides he wants xisuma to see him.

so, basically, they tell xisuma that it's real. xisuma doesn't take it well at all. he thinks things like 'i could have been seeing him all these years' and 'i can't go back there, he hates me, it's my fault he died' things like that. it takes a lot of persuading to get him to go. but after two weeks, he finally agrees, under the circumstances that it's only him and doc. scar agrees and doc takes him down at midnight.

and then xisuma and mumbo finally see eachother after over eight years. xisuma is immediately hysterical, crying and collapsing to his knees, begging for forgiveness.

and mumbo wants to hug him so badly, he wants to tell him that it isn't his fault, he wants to hug his dad again, but he physically can't. all he can do is look at him and that makes him cry too.

doc puts the paper infront of the both and mumbo points at letters and makes the words:

'n-o-t y-o-u-r f-a-u-l-t'

and then

'i l-o-v-e y-o-u'

xisuma ends up staying there all night with mumbo, until 9am the next morning. doc has to almost drag him out so he can get some sleep.

so, after he's human, he spawns in xisumas base. xisuma is the first one to give him any source of physical contact in 8-9 years, and he hugs him tightly. mumbo hasn't felt any source of comfort or contact in years and it all is a lot for him to handle at once. he ends up breaking down into tears, hugging xisuma back and crying for *hours and hours*

i also have the headcanon that mumbo hates the winter because its cold. he was constantly, constantly cold when he was a ghost and he hated it. so whenever it's winter, he piles a mound (secret life ref?!?!??!!?!?) of blankets and comforters on him to get as warm as possible, and he gets boatem hugs and sleepovers and all that to make him feel better <333
