short bio: previously just your average, introverted university student with a passion for literature, a date gone wrong turns kaneki ken into a half ghoul and throws his life into chaos. as he joins the fold of peace-keeping ghouls and learns about how they live, love, and care for each other, he is gradually able to get used to his new life. all of this changes when he is kidnapped by a violent ghoul group, aogiri tree, and brutally tortured by the ghoul jason. he eventually manages to escape, but he would never be the same.
after escaping from aogiri tree, kaneki starts looking into the doctor responsible for the operation that turned him into a ghoul. he does this, all while becoming stronger and stronger at the expense of his sanity. his encounters with the ccg come to a head at the battle of the twentieth ward, where he is defeated by the ccg’s reaper, kishou arima. at this point, he unwittingly forfeits his memory and assumes the identity of haise sasaki, a ccg investigator.
