He Doesn't Speak For Me!
He Doesn’t Speak For Me!
TriceEdney — Good or Bad, Like or Dislike, in all my years as a citizen of the United States, I have come to expect certain decorum from the holder of the Office of President of the United States.  While accepting that I will not agree with every decision, and that mistakes are inevitable, among all that I have known, presidents have stepped-up to demonstrate REASONED leadership designed to…

We're Are American Too.
We’re Are American Too.
TriceEdney — Throughout #45’s campaign, he made great issue of “Making America Great Again” and “America(ns) First.”  Those who voted for him obviously believed him.  Given his professed preeminence for everything American, it is reasonable to think that after a natural disaster he would take a no-holds-barred, equitable approach to providing relief to our citizens.
  Hurricanes Harvey, Irma…

...While Rome Burned
…While Rome Burned
TriceEdney — Historic references are frequently used to comparatively illuminate the character of current persons and/or events.  Recently I have been reminded of the saying, “Nero fiddled while Rome burned!”  In truth, Nero didn’t fiddle He, in greatest likelihood, played a lyre, a stringed instrument best described as a hand-held harp.  Important in this reference is not the description of a…

When Will This End?
When Will This End?
TriceEdney — My best friend left us and moved to his heavenly home a few weeks ago.  For those who knew Dick Gregory, it’s no secret that we were best friends for a very long time.  Over a year before he left us, he told me, as I am sure he told many others, that the 2016 election wasn’t going to go the way I thought it would.  It was obvious to him that I, like so many others, thought that it…

The Storm Coming
TriceEdney— I was appalled and angered as I watched Jeff Sessions announce the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program.  His announcement was made with a diabolically gleeful and viciously animated demeanor akin to “Chuckie,” the monstrously evil doll of horror movie infamy.  Sessions seemingly took perverse pleasure in ‘sticking it to’ those made vulnerable by…

Living While Black
I am a Black woman. I have a brother who was a Deputy Sherriff in a medium sized southern city. He is retired now, and I know that he enjoyed his work.  He was known as a good man by people from all walks of life.  Young people looked up to him.  He visited their schools, chastised students when they weren’t on the right path, and they listened.  My nephews still look up to him, and I can easily…

The Last Word: Stay Woke
The Last Word: Stay Woke
TriceEdney–“Stay Woke!” are the words of my best friend, Dick Gregory. Who in America hasn’t heard of Dick Gregory?  I’d known him personally for years before he transitioned a few days ago.  We met in 1986 when Congressman Mervyn Dymally invited him to my home state of Louisiana while I was a candidate for the U.S. Congress.  Dick spoke at a fundraising event for me and didn’t ask for a dime–not…

Making Racism Bad For Business
Making Racism Bad For Business
TriceEdney —  In 2015, CNN reported that 49% of Americans thought that racism was a big problem in the United States.  Not surprisingly, people of color and whites had significantly differing views regarding the subject.  66% of Blacks and 64% of Hispanics thought that racism was a big problem, while only 43% of whites saw it that way.
In reflection, two thoughts come to mind.  The first – the…

Charlottesville Chaos
Having live through the horrendous 60’s and witnessing the hate of people who look like me, once again, I was glued to my television on Saturday, August 12, 2017 having to remind myself that what I was watching was not Birmingham, Alabama or any place down South.  These images I was seeing live on television were not the old KKK or White Citizens Council.  These were white supremacists and Nazis.…

Random Thoughts
TriceEdney — In the past six months, I’ve frequently complained that developing events, consequential to the administration of #45, leave us inundated and overwhelmed with negative outcomes of his governance or lack thereof.  Weekly, I attempt to give an enlightened perspective on a newsworthy and timely topic; but I’m often conflicted and feel that selecting only one topic does my readers a…

Vance
Trice-Edney– Like most residents in the Washington DC television market, I was saddened at the recent passing of Jim Vance, evening co-anchor of the local NBC affiliate.  This week, I join those who devote their thoughts and expressions in tribute and condolence for a man who worked his way from reading the evening news to becoming the region’s iconic and consummate broadcast professional and…

When Will We Learn
When Will We Learn
Trice-Edney – A recent study on wealth was conducted by Amy Traub,
Laura Sullivan, Tatjana Meschede and Tom Shapiro.  The study did a comparison of Black and white wealth and Latino and white wealth.  In our community, we have been consumed with racial inequities, voter suppression, health care, unjustified police shootings and racial bias in our criminal justice system. We’ve been concerned…

Trump Again!
Trice Edney—I’m among those who really would like to move on to something bigger and better than what we hear daily on the news—but, as a lawyer, I know that there’s a legal principle that says “Silence gives consent,” so I just can’t allow myself the the luxury of ignoring current events without comment.  While “The Donald,” his family and best friends fly around the world at our expense, I…

GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
TriceEdney — The only time I can remember TIME moving as slowly as it has during the past six months was when I was eight and had to wait an entire year between Christmases.  True or not, it feels like the Trump Administration has slowed the progress of time and assigned each day an additional 36 hours.  One wonders how long it’ll take to lumber through his term in office.
I surmise that my…

Trump accuses ‘Morning Joe’ co-host of “bleeding badly from a face lift” in Twitter rant
Trump on Thursday sought to impugn the co-hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, accusing Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski of not only being unintelligent and mentally unstable, but also alleging that Brzezinski once had a face lift.
Trump’s tweets lit up Twitter, with many saying they were unbecoming of the leader of the free world, and others saying they dripped with misogyny. Read more (6/29/17 11:50 AM)
Trump faces blowback from all sides following Mika Brzezinski “face lift” tweet
Critics from both sides of the aisle agree: President Donald Trump’s “face lift” Twitter attack on Mika Brzezinski isn’t a good look.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was among the first prominent members of Trump’s own party to slam the president for the tweet, saying the president’s Twitter commentary “represents what is wrong with American politics.” Read more (6/29/17 11:50 AM)
