“The 3D Additivist Cookbook, devised and edited by Morehshin Allahyari & Daniel Rourke” - Morehshin Website.
The 3D Additvist Cookbook is a 3D art piece that contains an array of objects.  Some of these objects are templates, recipes, .stl files, and critical and fictional text.  I was very drawn to this project because it reminded me of one of my own pieces (my senior spring art project - pictured above).  Specifically it reminded me of the letter “F”.  The letter “F” stood for “Friedfertig”, my last name.  It was created out of found objects from my house. It is very similar to The 3D Additivist Cookbook as it is a creation of multiple objects coming together to create one.
The 3D Additivist name comes from the combination of additive and activism.  The purpose of the The 3D Additivist is to question “whether it’s possible to change the world without also changing ourselves, and what the implications are of taking a position”.  I find the purpose of the art piece to be very powerful.  Changing the world is a very hard goal.  A lot of times people say society shapes people.  Hardly does one hear about a person who shapes society.  Why do you think that is?  Are societal norms too strict and people are too scared to risk breaking them?
This art piece goes against social norms.  It places together objects that don’t necessarily correlate into one piece of art.
