I do not usually make posts like this but recently I have seen a lot of content on Instagram, Twitter and I think tiktok too misunderstanding the meaning of intrusive thoughts, which may cause people experiencing them to be upset.

I have tried to shortly explain the difference of impulsive and intrusive and hope it will help people to understand and use the words correctly.

I used to stop listening to the songs they introduced me to (and vice versa) or the shows and etc...

But then maybe 2 years ago somehow it changed, I still listen to this music and watch those shows. I don’t want them to take these things from me, isn't it enough that they broke me? I still want the things I love like music or books or whatever to stay with me forever, unlike them

Sometimes, people introduce you to things you end up loving. Maybe a band, a tv show, a hobby. But those same people may hurt you down the road. I know the common reaction is to feel like those things are now tainted, and that to move on you have to bury them and turn your back. And if you’re like that, I don’t think you’re wrong. I can understand your perspective, and I believe it’s a valid one.

But for me, personally, I never really did that. I always looked at these things I now love, and decided they were a reclamation. The person who introduced me to them was a dumpster fire to me, but this thing itself is like a jewel that survived in the ashes. It’s mine now, consolation for what I endured. What it means to me is more than the person that hurt me
