As I have already mentioned in my earlier posts that the market is very colorful and full of Graphitis and street art, this is just another masterpiece by the NDMC which is a part of the street art done by them. 😍

This is the Mood Board that I have created and this will be a depiction of my design brief as it includes what I had imagined while making a design brief. My ideas have been clearly depicted in my Mood Board. It is very realistic and easily affordable.

Wondering what this is? Well! It is the map of Shankar Market. And kudos to me because the map isnt what it looks like in pictures and work gets so much interesting when it involves my hobby which I could perform even at midnight! Photography ofcourse! Yes! And I made this map to understand the market in details and while working for the map I found my micro and also got a lot of options I could use! Also as a design student my brain has been trained to recognize problems and give design solutions automatically. While doing this I found that if the space was managed properly in the market 80% of the shops would have a better frontage, better coverage and could easily attract customers. Shankar Market is also a little neglected because of this and if it is given proper maintainance and work space and hygeine then the shop owners in the market can make a better living in that place. A benifit it enjoys is that the market is centrally located and reaching Shankar Market is no tough job.

After so much of thinking and thought process and repeated visit to Shankar Market I had finally selected the FEATURE TAILOR for my micro part of the project. This tailor is really skilled and due to lack of management of space and man work he is unable to perform well and due to lack of publicity and small exteriors the customers to him are less and the customers who have visited earlier stay loyal to him. The main problem is that there is a staircase inside his workplace which is of no use to him and is unnecessarily occupying a lot of space in his shop. that staircase starts outside his shop and is meant for reaching the mezzanine floor of the building. The tailor cannot do anything because it is his own property and he cannot leave or abandon it. As he had said to me he had no other option other than adjusting to the situation. His work space is a L shape block of about a 100 square feet and other than that he has the staircase lying in his shop. The staircase covers the exterior of his shop and due to this his workplace isn’t in focus. I am currently working on the solutions of these problems and in my next post I will share it with you.

It was now time for an individual shop to whom I would have to give a design solution. Sounds like a thunder to my ears. I was a design student and a solution? What? Well as Simmi says do active listening I thought do I? Well! No! So its time to. What we were briefed and what I thought was different and when I came to know what I had to do I laughed on myself, like really. 😃 I started looking for shops and came accross some in which I could find some possibility areas and to name a few KayCee Tailors, Dye Shop, etc. In my next post I would tell u what my Micro Area is.

Begining with our Log books where we would show our process I decided to start my book in a way which would show the essence of my market. The colourful, artistic, vibrant market. I was super confused about how I was going to take my work forward in this module and with a confusing brain I started with the work I was supposed to be doing!

The clumsy streets of Shankar Market! 😵 uhoh It is Thursday and Excited about coming weekend and my favourite festival Holi in 3* days but I knew this time it was gonna be bad because it was the first time I was away from home. However, we were asked to interview people in the market and create some sort of a questionnaire and a survey about the market. Had i already known that the market opens lately I had come late and I could see the market in a whole hustle and like a bullet train. The people there refused to interview and said it is morning earning time I cannot give an interview. It was disgusting of them being so rude. Well, I was more than happy to visit this market in the time of the festival Holi and the market was full of Colours. This inspired me and my friends to play holi together and we buyed colours to celebrate this festival. Very soon the sky turned cloudy and nearly in 30 minutes the sky started pouring rain showers and we had to hide ourselfs and hobble through to corridors to reach the place where we had parked our cars.

Another Dangerous Brief!
On Wednesday we reached college and we were scared to hell by our faculties who said Start working or else you are not going to reach your destination swiftly. After showing the Presentation we had made after a whole sleepless night we were told what we made was utter shit and had to work harder. Wondering what I would do I stepped back and got worried about the next step. Here and there I began thinking I would have to work a lot and a lot of other thoughts crossed my mind. Tomorrow again I had to go to Shankar Market. Yet again the crowded, clumsy market. I wasnt mentally prepared to be there again! Yet I did the preparations for the next morning and doze off.

Well, it was an awful but a different experience. After I came back I was going through the pictures I had taken in the market I discovered that my enthusiasm for photography made me click litterally every corner of the market and hence I was in a benifit. The beautiful street art was the best thing about the market and no wonder why the market inspite of being so clumsy was overtaken by the beauty. The walls were colourful and vibrant. Well you must be wondering what is it about the street art. Well, I will be showing them to you in my next post.

1ST VISIT TO SHANKAR MARKET
It was yesterday night when I was thinking about my next day field trip to Shankar Market. I was just wondering about it and the next moment I found myself on google searching for the word "Shankar Market". As soon as I pressed the search button a lot of results came out and I was connecting what I could see on internet with the briefings that I was given. Firstly, knowing that it was in Connaught Place I thought it would be a high street and when I saw the images I was in an awe about it. Although if it hadnt been a college assignment I would surely never place my feet in that market and this was my first thought when I saw the pictures. I saw partial details of the market and its location and how we could travel. Well its Tuesday morning and I am at the Barakhamba Metro Station, the nearest station to Shankar market. Took the exit from gate number two and headed towards Shankar Market in an auto. As the auto was moving ahead I had anxiety of how I would adjust in this market for the whole module. And yes I was all wrong. As I reached, I saw the most beautiful street art ever so colourful, vibrant, beautiful. I immideatly halted down the auto and started capturing the beautiful Graphitis. The market was closed when I reached so I had to wait for 2 hours for starting my work. Yeaaa I got 2 more hours to adore the beauty of the market. As soon as people started entering the market the calmness, beauty of the market started fading away. The shopkeepers opened their shops and the bad thing was that they used up the corridors and scattered their goods all over outside their shops too. I started observing as I was asked to do. With my group i was discussing the events when we met a man a strange man, whom for sure I am not going to forget ever. He is an engineer and had no family and he lived in a small truck in the backside corridor of the market. I wished to do something for him and adoring and awing in thr market it was 2pm and to satisfy my hungry stomach and to give pleasure to my taste buds I crawled through Shankar market and ended up at Nirulas Paneer shop which gives best of Paneer in whole of Delhi without burning a hole in my wallet. We then headed to Parashar foods, famous for its Rajma Chawal and the best one I have ever had. Then we crawled and observed a little more in this clumsy little market and had no energy left and headed back home.

So here it is! The module 3 has ended with a lot of hustle, bustle and confusions. Here we are to the last module and 8 months have passed by and I never know where it has ran away so fast. It is just another first day of the module and we know we wont be spared and would be given all the tension of what is going to happen latter. The first day of the last module. It all begins with a Module briefing which sounded more like a confused maze where nobody knew where to start where to finish. It was indeed a confusing day and I had been super scared on what I had to do. After the briefing having a discussion with my friends scared me a little more because what I understood I had to do and what they told me was different! Hell Yeah! That was more like a panic attack. We were told we had to visit a market which was tacky in all sorts and had to study and give a design solution for a shop in that market and this sounded like a thunder to my ear. Like really. First day, was indeed a scary day! 😑
