WORDS UNSPOKEN
Elendil & Isildur, Elendil's wife – Hurt/Comfort
During a quiet day out at sea, Isildur confides in his mother his doubts for the future that his father has planned for him.
Read on AO3
They should have been back by now.
When Elendil opened the door, his stomach sank. The sky was muddled with black swirling clouds, shrouding the city in darkness. Heavy gray sheets pelted down onto the slick cobblestones and a forceful gale swung the door closed behind him, whipping his hair across his face and plastering it to his skin. He peered through the curtain of steady downpour, looking up and down the streets for any sign of them, but they were nowhere to be seen.
A jagged white line tore open the blackened sky, quickly followed by a sharp roar crashing overhead. He could no longer fight his unease, a harsh chill whispering over his bones. As he turned and ran, all he could do was hope that he was not too late.

@from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun writing this–or however much fun you can have writing something like this 😭 I agree that mother-son dynamics are severely underrepresented in Tolkien, so I very much enjoyed exploring what kind of relationship Isildur could've had with his mother, as well as the cascading effects that her loss will have on the rest of the family, which you'll see more of in the next chapter 😀 so much to explore!! What fun.

ANYONE BUT HIM || CHAPTER 6
Elendil & Isildur - Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Implied/Referenced Torture, Canon-Typical Violence, Hurt/Comfort
Following the eruption of Orodruin, Isildur is nowhere to be found. Elendil goes searching for him but finds himself captured by orcs, and is soon faced with the worst fears imaginable.
Read Chapter 6 on AO3
Valandil’s words repeat in his mind like a taunt. “Isildur – he never made it back.” Feeling the last remnants of hope slowly shattering, slipping through his fingers, Elendil forces his mind blank. He cannot think of his son right now, he needs to keep his head clear. Berek finally slows to a halt when they come across a clearing splattered with the remains of dismembered bodies. Elendil’s breath catches in his throat. The party of orc scouts they had sent out, or what was left of them. Elendil inhales slowly, bracing himself for the worst. If he finds Isildur here…he shakes away the thought. And yet he still clings onto Valandil’s words like a dying hope, that Isildur was not among the bodies, but he remembers the uncertainty in his voice. But if he had been, surely the orcs would have brought him back. Elendil swallows his fear, knowing there is no point in delaying any further. Isildur’s name is a whisper in his throat, but he dares not call out. His heart is pounding furiously and there is a pit in his stomach. His knuckles whiten as he grips the reins tighter, his eyes slowly trailing along the ground across every corpse, scouring the scene for any sign of him, but finds nothing. He leans back on the saddle with a weary sigh. Isildur is not here. Not anymore.
