not forcibly assigning phil a dad role in every single rp relationship regardless of if it actually makes sense is not just about not being annoying and forcing ooc headcanons onto characters, but like character wise it’s actually extremely good for characters to have relationships on equal ground. this is why c!emeraldduo Not being family is so good, because both phil and techno’s characters lacked equal-ground relationships and so having a closely trusted friend who is an equal was a very powerful dynamic. in both dsmp and qsmp phil Is a guiding or paternal figure in a lot of ways for a lot of other characters and because of that, him having relationships that are Different than that is really important and good

Do you like writing? Are you an MCYT fan? Do you sometimes struggle with getting that one character's dialogue to sound just right?
Well, I have a solution:
Echo's MCYT writing cheat sheet doc!
Featuring notes on 80+ CCs ranging from Hermitcraft, Empires SMP, and the Life Series to QSMP, this Google doc has now been in the works for nearly two years (since November 2021!), currently comprises 18k+ words, and still receives tweaks and updates pretty much every day.
Contents of each CC's section on the doc (which are in alphabetical order!) include:
Commonly used words/phrases - adjectives and adverbs! Exclamations! Filler phrases and words! and other turns of phrase that make their speech distinct from others
Sentence structure - including transcriptions of example sentences that help get an idea of how exactly someone tends to say (and stumble over) their words!
Interaction with others - do they use nicknames? Which ones? What little phrases do they tend to say in conversation?
Typing - how do they type in Minecraft chat? What emoticons do they use? Do they send one long message, or several short ones? Should it be all lowercase? Do they use apostrophes? and more, with example screenshots!
In-game movement - how do they move their cubito? Do they shuffle around on the spot while talking, or stand still to look someone in the face? How expressive are they? Do they shift for emphasis, or nod? etc!
and other random characterisation notes - any fun facts about their character that you might want to keep in mind while writing!
There's also some bonus content outside of the specific character sections - links to general writing resources, recaps and summaries and quotes from the series the CCs on the doc have been involved in, as well as notes, conversation transcripts and clips I've compiled for some specific character dynamics!
(Important disclaimer: This isn't a 100% comprehensive guide - I'm just one person, and this is entirely comprised of notes I take while watching, so it's never going to be perfect or fully accurate. It also varies a lot on its level of detail for each CC, because I watch some people more than others, and in the case of QSMP there's language barriers involved, too.)
But I do think it can be pretty helpful. So if you're struggling, maybe consider giving this doc a try - you might find something useful inside! <3

i am once again suffering from Phil brainrot, this time specifically about a few things that i noticed yesterday with how he speaks to/about all of the eggs -but specifically how he did with Richas and Pomme in the dungeon and after.
when they were in the dungeon, Phil never let the eggs out of his sight. he kept backtracking and zooming in to try and find their name tags behind walls. he payed tangential attention to what Forever and Pierre were talking about, but mostly, he kept his attention in never leaving any egg completely alone.
even when earlier on the same stream he was talking about how it was obvious richas was strong with how his parents let him roam around at his own liking; and even as they starte the dungeon he kept mentioning to Pomme and Tallulah how he was cracked, and clearly strong. but even with that, Phil kept calling out, making sure richas knew he wasnt alone and that him, Tallulah and Pomme were right around the corner. when Pierre and Forever found another area and kept going, Phil stayed behind calling for Richas, and when he told Phil "you can keep going, I'll catch up" Phil goes "ah, but you see Richarlyson, I dont leave eggs behind. When we move on, we do it as a team: we do it as a family"
he then pushed a little more until he found out how to make Richarlyson keep going -after trial an error, and maybe one day I'll talk about how cool the way that Phil finds how the eggs work is.
and then the conversation with Pomme later, when he was about to leave. Pomme let him know what had happened to Dapper, and how Richas had had to hold her back from going. He reassured her that it was a good thing that she had stayed safe, and that as strong and brave as she was, it was his and the parents' job to take care of her and her siblings. "if something is happening, no matter how strong or confident, you let the parents take the front, ok? that's what were here for"
idk, all in all i think it speaks volumes. cause clearly Phil is one of the parents who is more trusting of his children, of all of the eggs, actually: he never doubts how strong or capable they are. but he's also incredibly aware of how fragile the eggs are, in a way (like he says, due to their form of communication they cant communicate mid battle to let others know they are low on health, they cant let others know if they are surrounded or overwhelmed, which is, i assume, why he will never let an egg out of his eyesight on a dungeon), and mr hardcore minecraft knows that surprises when youre feeling confident are the easiest way to get got (baby zombie anyone?)
idk, i hope Phil can spend some more time with the eggs other than his own in the future, i think his way of seeing both them and the world/game could be an incredible influence in all of the eggs

One of the funny things to came out of me learning about DSMP fandom-first, and not seeing a lot of the actual canon first-hand until later, was the c!Technoblade quote "For you the world Phil"
Which I discovered months down the line was not, in fact, from a dramatic lore moment of great emotional weight, probably either before or after some grand battle. It wasn't even from SMP Earth when the Antarctic Empire took over the world, which is where I'd kind of assumed it was from. No, that quote was an exasperated comment at the end of a married-couple-style squabble over bookshelves.
Still an amazing quote, great demonstration of their devotion to each other and all that, but accidentally stumbling across the actual context of it after I'd seen it used to such dramatic effect all over the fandom was really funny.

Sometimes minecraft roleplay youtube shines as a medium because you get to see the same stories played out from different characters’ perspectives, giving you a more thorough understanding of their motives and thought processes, how narrative style can alter how a story is told, and how conflict can arise and be resolved in a domino esque fashion through seemingly innocuous and unconnected actions taken by multiple characters
Other times it shines because a group of youtubers will get together in a business meeting and one of them will go “hey I am going to place 250k blocks of dirt on top of our colleague’s base as a prank” and the others will have to offer to help because that is so wild none of them want to miss out on the content opportunity, and in doing so they will imply that their character is 100% down to spend an estimated 14 hours - 42 in universe minecraft days - shovelling dirt just to mess with one of their neighbours
