Every spring the summit of Mount Everest draws people from around the world. But in its shadow live the Sherpa, a resilient, religious people, who, despite the riches surrounding the highest peak on earth, are still quite poor and uneducated.
A child of the Khumbu, Apa Sherpa climbed Everest 21 times. Pulled away at the age of 12 to work as a high altitude porter, like so many others, he would leave his family for months, risking his life on the mountain. Through his work at the Apa Sherpa Foundation, he aims to create a different future for his people.
As Apa says, "without education we have no choice."

When we feel pain, there’s a complex conversation going on between the brain and the body. But we don’t feel pain until the brain interprets these 'secret messages,' evaluates the danger, and determines how much pain we should feel.
With the help of science, we may have some control over the amount of pain we feel. "The gate control theory of pain asserts that non-painful input closes the 'gates' to painful input, which prevents pain sensation from traveling to the central nervous system. Treehugger Chapter 01: WAWONA Teaser from Marshmallow Laser Feast on Vimeo.
The first chapter of Treehugger: Wawona is centred on nature's cathedral, the giant Sequoia from the famous Sequoia National Park (California, USA). Wawona is the (local Native American) Miwok’s word for ‘hoot of an owl’, imitating the sound of the Northern Spotted Owl - believed to be the tree’s spiritual guardian.
Participants are invited to don a VR headset, place their heads into the tree’s knot and be transported into the Sequoia’s secret inner world. The longer you hug the tree, the deeper you drift into ‘treetime’: a hidden dimension that lies just beyond the limit of our senses. Audiences embark on a journey of abstract visualisation, following a single drop of water as it traverses from root to canopy in these enormous living structures.

In 2016, a range of commercially available mobile devices arrived on the market carrying integrated 3D Cameras capable of depth and object perception. If 3D vision technologies are as successfully adopted as their 2D predecessors, we should expect 70% of the world’s population to carry one in a decade. This project began with an interest in how this technology will not only change the way we record, but also interact with the world around us? The Sarotis Project looks beyond mobile phones and tablets, towards more intimate wearable technology futures. Where advanced vision systems and other sensor technologies are connected directly to the body through softer interfaces.
Here we present a two phased study; a series of technical experiments and a speculative film. First an experimental prosthesis was designed to study whether a person’s awareness of space could be amplified using live 3D scanning technologies controlling the inflation and deflation of a wearable soft robot. Results were successful and suggested possible applications for people with visual impairments. It also revealed the possibility of haptic navigation of virtual spaces within physical space.

To express the Sarotis vision of future soft wearable technologies, a speculative film provokes us to consider how fluidic hydrogel interfaces may dissolve the distinction between our own physiology and that of the softening machines that will extend our bodies.

TUNDRA’s newest immersive experience is a large scale laser-beams installation which went unseen to public due to cancellation of Outline Festival in Moscow where it was initially planned to be exhibited. As it was specially created for this festival, we decided to name it OUTLINES.
This word has a strong meaning in Russian representing the idea of stepping out of an initial grid and rising above the fundamentals by trespassing your imaginary boundaries.

Reimagined and bigger scale version of projection-based hexagonal installation “MyWhale” which was originally produced as a site-specific interactive installation by Tundra for “Brusov”, a renovated ship, laid up on Moscow river and turned into an art-cluster.

The inner revision of "MyWhale" consists of nearly 600 laser-cutted projection mapped hexagons. The installation was specially made for “9 Lights in 9 Rooms” exhibition at D MUSEUM (Seoul, Korea).
It was visited by more than 200 000 visitors during the period of exhibition 05.12.2016 - 08.05.2016.
