Your daughter is gonna learn how to put lipstick on with her best friend. Your son's gonna learn how to fish with his bros. Your daughter is gonna pick out her prom dress with her friends and supportive family. Your son will be taught how to shave by his uncle. You're missing these key moments in your kids' childhood because you can't accept that they are trans. These good memories are slipping through your fingers because you can't come to turns with the fact that your kid is trans.

I hate insurance and how it doesn't view trans care as medically necessary. I went with the international student insurance my university recommended and turns out it refuses to cover trans care. That meant to get my gender dysphoria diagnosis which is necessary to get on HRT and get gender affirming surgery, my family had to pay an absolutely exorbitant amount of money, which we won't be able to get back. Gender affirming care is not just a fun thing trans people choose to get, it's life-changing and in many cases life-saving.
I'm not on T yet, but I would definitely do DIY HRT if I couldn't get it in the time frame I'm going to get it in (I'm hopefully starting in about 6 months), because I can't picture myself living with this dysphoria for possibly years. It's so fucked that insurance that is promoted by universities just doesn't cover this medically necessary care, and it makes me really angry.
(also, I strongly believe that healthcare should be taxpayer funded and free at point of use)

1 Year
March 3rd is my 1 year on HRT and felt like I wanted to show what my final realisation was to accepting that HRT was my only option. Some context:
I was born with pulmonary stenosis and all you need to know is my pulmonary valve doesn't work and I need surgery every ~10 years to get a valve replacement. This event takes place on Nov. 1, 2022 the night after my 2nd heart surgery and even though the pain from an artificial valve and an incorrectly place IV drip in my hand hurt like hell the most painful thing I kept seeing was my reflection.

I sang publicly in an LGBT+ choir yesterday. We're an SATB choir. I'm a trans guy and I sing bass. The last time I sang publicly with a choir I was an alto, but testosterone is a hell of a drug. Our director likes to have shorter people at the front when we sing, so that she can see everyone, and the audience can see all of us. I'm on the front row. I look to my left and see another trans man. I look to my right and see two more. I realise that every bass on the front row is transmasculine. I smile. I'm singing for my brothers and my brothers are singing for me. Later, when we're all talking about the performance, I resist the urge to make a joke about how short we all are. We go to a pub to celebrate a successful performance, and with them I dance like someones dad at a wedding, and we talk about visibility, invisibility and navigating being trans at work. One of them has infectious joy when he dances. Another is the most fabulous looking man I have ever met. I finally feel like I found my people and I'm somewhere I belong. This is my community. This is where I am safe. Being with other trans men is so healing and affirming. Being one of the boys. Dancing to ABBA.

people on this hellsite will talk about trans men and OUR experiences, but then tell us to shut up when we correct them. they want to talk about us but never want to actually listen to us.
"support trans people!" until a trans man says you're spreading harmful rhetoric and stereotypes about us, then we're over sensitive, whiny, and hysteric. i wonder where we've heard that one before?

Did you know: lots of trans people don't want/need surgeries or hormones to be comfortable in themselves and are fine with what they're doing without. On the other hand, some trans people can't get procedures for medical reasons, like myself (can't get top surgery because of a terrible immune system and chemo meds). Lots of trans people just don't get any procedures done, but that doesn't make them any less trans than someone who does get those done.

Cis people getting trans surgeries doesn't scare me at all. I've seen cis girls who got top surgery for body mod reasons and they look cool as hell. I've seen ace people whose gotten bottom surgeries because they want to be less capable of sex. It's cool and normal actually.

I was about to post something along the lines of “everyone will get to be a milf some day and I think that’s beautiful” but then I remembered that there are people who aren’t women.

being genderfluid is so hard. i wanna be the hot older sister from 2000s who smokes cigarettes and chews gum really loudly, but i also want to be the asshole older brother from 90s movies who’s high as balls and wears eyeliner. but also i want to be an 80s rocker with fluffy hair and wearing tight jeans, but also big titty goth gf (to another girl, you understand).
i need to shapeshift
