I took closeups of all of my pretty girls- these are all the reddish calicos. Maybe next time I will try a dark background instead, since my phone's macro camera struggled to show their pretty colors- especially the last girl, who is so yellowy!

salami hasn't made much progress and i'm very sad. his left eye is still slightly puffy and cloudy. in the last week i've only gotten him to eat frozen bloodworms a few times, and only when it falls right in front of his face. he can swim around but mostly lays and is skittish.
the past week i've had him in a floating breeder box, and took out the divider in the meantime so that Stripe has more room (since I put the box in front of the filter which is on Stripe's side). yesterday i did another water change and added some salt. today i tried putting the divider back in and releasing salami to see if he'd perk up, but he didn't seem happy. and also i cant get the divider in the right way now so he got out twice. so instead i put him back into a slightly bigger floating box.
i miss my wiggly and hungry betta boy. i dunno what else to do other than keep trying to offer bloodworms and keep him as comfy as i can. maybe it's hard for him because he's about 2.5 years old (1.5 with me, 6 months at his old home and probably 6 before he was sold at the store).

do you guys recommend any reputable sites for looking up fish care? it's so important to research stuff, but it's hard to find sources that i trust cuz nowadays all that comes up seems AI-generated, with very long redundant articles full of ads before giving you a straight answer.
on a similar note, does anyone know if reptile UV lights are safe for fish? if you didn't notice, my goldy light has been out for a while. they are next to a window, but i also have an unused but old reptile bulb. i wondered if a short duration with that light on would be good for them like being outside.

May 2023 - April 2024
One month away from being a whole year old! The plants are growing, the shrimps are breeding, the galaxy rasboras are healthy but I think I might need more girls because my female to male ratio appears to be 2:6 which is... not good for the ladies atm. Otherwise, everything appears to be thriving!

also Salami is still hanging in there. not worse but not much better. he is swimming around occasionally and seems to have energy, but not eating. i'm dosing melafix daily and a small amount of epsom salt twice daily. i love you Salami
