I am so torn about this whole thing. Like on one hand I am so so excited. Ski jumping is about pushing the limits and defining the odds (please safely though). But I doesn't feel right that I happens in a sponsored red bull event (with no access for other jumpers or fans). I hope fis sees this as a little wake up call and starts to evolve the sport more rather than just managing it (especially with the girls)
I've seen so much support for Baby Lasagna recently and I'm so happy that my country is gaining recognition in this way.
Since I am Croatian I wanted to kind of explain the message of the song as well as the perfomance and the importance of the costume on Dora yesterday because a lot of people are lost on the meaning.
Marko (Baby Lasagna) said that he wrote the song reflecting on an issue all Balkan countries are very familiar with which is people abandoning their countries and cultures in search of jobs and better opportunities in the west. The music video shows a typical small village and the protagonist who is saying goodbye and getting ready to leave.
Ciao, Mama, Ciao
I'm a big boy now
I'm going away and I sold my cow
...
There's no going back
My presence fades to black
My anxiety attacks
The lyrics are good socially commentary and pairing that up with an upbeat melody makes the song meaningful as well as catchy and dancey.
Now onto Dora. The costume is a mix between a traditional folk costume - this one is specifically tied to Istra - a region in which Marko grew up, and rock elements (the vest). Some people have said that it is an attempt to copy Käärijä and that he should get rid of the sleeves which saddens me because I love how he managed to represent our culture and still give it a modern touch. I adore the look !
The finale of Dora is tomorrow and I really hope he wins because I can't remember the last time we had such a great concept or something that people talk about and that stands out.
Peter was the first ski jumper I've cheered on when I got into the whole ski jumping thing and seeing him retire at the end of the season makes me somehow emotional. I will never forget that crazy 2015/16 season. That man made himself a living legend.
