A 28-year-old motorcyclist died in Washington State on Friday afternoon because a dipshit Tesla driver rear-ended him at speed. A Snohomish man, 56, was commuting in his 2022 Tesla Model S when he activated the car’s camera-based advanced driver assist system and according to his statements to police, began looking through his phone. With nobody paying attention to the car’s actions, the Tesla software ignored Jeffrey Nissen on his motorcycle and continued on at speed. The car rear-ended the two-wheeler, Nissen was flung from the bike, and his life ended pinned underneath the electric car, where he was still lodged when police arrived to the scene.

Tesla claims another life.

Reminder that even if you are personally aware of how dangerous Tesla vehicles are and vow to never ride in one, they can still kill you.

My own driving habits have changed around them. I always give Teslas extra space, avoid following them directly, and expect them to stop or swerve suddenly without notice.

Cannot count the times I've pulled up next to a Tesla at freeway speed, noticed the driver playing on their phone. Tap the horn. They look up with surprise.

I think some people get so caught up in a mindset that all moderation is terrible for fandom that they run headlong into the paradox of tolerance and side with the neo-nazis.

If you try to make a group equally and unreservedly welcoming to everybody, especially by saying that no content can ever be removed and that criticism is antithetical to the group norms, you by definition make the group unsafe for marginalized people.

Black fans are inherently less safe in a group that is tolerant of racists or of racist content. Disabled people are inherently less safe in a group that is tolerant of ableism or ableist content. Jewish people are inherently less safe in a group that is tolerant of antisemitism or antisemitic content.

And so there is no value neutral moderation decision--not even "everything and everyone is allowed without question or comment." You are making a choice as to who you want to prioritize in your community, and marginalized people are the ones who lose when you maintain the status quo.

No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadows what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence they should be.
