" and i thought , perhaps there is some link to the water reserve beneath the woodlands -- possibly tied to the springs nearby ?? -- that might play role in the natural abundance of aether pooling and concentrating in the precise area where the heavens mirror thrive ?? i'm not sure . there's still much to learn about the ecology of the area as a whole , for it is quite distinct from hyrule's . i was also thinking -- "

" Y... Y-you really want to hear about it? " He was fidgeting with his fingers. Honestly, he really wasn't used to getting this much attention from anyone. It really just didn't seem that important to him, it's not like he lives a particularly interesting life either.
He never had grand stories to tell ( well, he didn't used to. ) or really looked for trouble. In fact, he'd do a lot of things to stay out of it. He wasn't the kind of person to exaggerate things either, but since she was asking.
" W-well... I've mostly been reading today. I got this really cool botanical journal that I've been enjoying. I've been learning about new plants and stuff for my job. A-and Miss Byleth likes flowers a lot so... " there was a little pause. He looked up at the woman and smiled.
" W-what about you? "

−−− ꧁ so . . . the impression she's left with is that she should temper herself and stave her inquisitiveness . or rather , that's the lesson she's decided to take away . whether or not she's capable of refraining is entirely . . . up for debate . she's never had much success in restraining herself for long .
you're right though, i don't think you could do what i can. she said it , not him . but he affirms it and it is . . . well , at least she's correct . and no harm in being correct . in fact , she almost laughs because at least they're on the same page .
but right now , after learning off how taboo it was , it felt a little wrong to proceed . she couldn't go on now to ask . . . how he'd learned ; however --
" so you've studied since you were young . your dedication no doubt is reason for your talent . so . . .now that you're more ' experienced ' , is it easy for you to control your talent ?? i only think of that bird . . . "
"I don't peg you as the kind of person to go around doing that, un. But if you ever find someone else from my world and show too much interest in their personal abilities that will probably be the assumption at first, yeah." He smiles a little and settles on the balls of his feet, leaning in a bit.
"Sorry, it's habit to get defensive over this kind of stuff with newer people, yeah. You're right though, I don't think you could do what I can, un. You'd need chakra training for that, which is really hard for people who haven't been working at it since they were young, un. That kind of control is hard to train into an adult, un."
He'd offered to try to train Badou, but they hung out enough that Deidara could maybe manage it. If he even had enough chakra. Most other people would be next to impossible to teach as things were.

what link doesn't know , is that he didn't used to smile . not much . not often . it wasn't until they removed themselves from what loomed overhead would he dare . . . and now , being the further than ever before , his boyish freedom and his expressions have become palpable when in his presence . what he doesn't know , is that zelda thought his new smile to be inspiring . and doubly enviable .
" i have a horrible feeling that if i were to speak , that you might . . . " understand . " . . . suffice it to say , it is of a delicate matter . and every moment i speak now , i feel as if i've already said too much and -- "
its a stupid mistake to look at the boy : it's fine : you don't have to speak if you don't want to . but he misunderstands . its not that she doesn't want to .
she just wants him to just . . . know .
link has the face of a friend , but the mind of a stranger . feeding the innocent the knowledge of pain was . . . a cruel thing to do . by her own hand , she could not find the strength to do it even for her own behalf . as alone as he now made her feel with their past , she could not bring herself to vent . she sees him smile more often now , and she likes it .
" for right now . . . for today , i think . . . i'd just like to ride the monorail a few times , if it is alright . "

−−− ꧁ the rain has lasted three days , bringing with it a front of cool relief . according to the weather application on her phone , it is supposed to let up soon . . . but not soon enough as her hair hangs damp . this air conditioning mechanism is frightfully powerful -- almost so that it leaves her feeling like her hair might freeze entirely as the chill moves from the top of her head , down her spine .
that is , until a weight is placed on her shoulders .
quickly , zelda snaps around to see who's gifted her their jacket , the smell like
" oh , but -- " quickly , zelda snaps around and is equipped to argue back . it is his jacket , and she's nothing more than a stranger in his eyes . " sir , you mustn't . it is positively frigid , and should you come down with a cold on my behalf , well , i'd have a hard time living it down the next time . "
but it is warm .
" well , i . . . i suppose if you aren't leaving any time soon . . . if you're truly not cold . . . i will return your jacket to you within the hour . please stay put . "

−−− ꧁ its sudden . two warm , soft fingers wedging their way into her the palm of her hand , looking for a home . zelda's heart seizes . people don't touch her . they don't get close to her . they don't , for she is a princess . is everything alright , little one ?? she almost asks , until she realizes that words . . . aren't always necessary . sometimes , you just need a hand .
she remembers : zelda's mother used to hold her hand as they walked . even if they seldom left the castle grounds and were otherwise surrounded by hundreds guards at all times . . . it was her mother's hand holding hers that made her feel safe more than any knight . more than any word of promise .
instinctively , zelda squeezes the little hand back in reassurance , as if her mother's grace could somehow transcend time and space and help make someone else feel like . . . everything was going to be okay . a gift from mother , to daughter , to stranger .
and even her own heart began to warm .
