Whenever I talk about the medical neglect and ableism I've encountered as a victim of the healthcare system, there's always some cockwaffle who feels entitled to come into my inbox and make the argument of "not all doctors" while talking about how "people like them" (because it's always someone in a field of medicine who does this) are doing their best and it's really hard because so many people fake being ill to get on welfare (Yikes), but like, yeah, obviously #not all doctors, because if all doctors were negligent, bullying scum bags, I'd be dead.

But here's the thing: while I truly believe that the majority of doctors are doing their best in a system stacked against them and their patients, their presence does not negate the mass harm caused by the bad ones. And there are far more bad ones than you realize.

Fuck, John Oliver literally did a segment on this last week:

Yes, the truly bad, malicious doctors are in the minority. Most are just horrifically burned out and fighting a losing battle against a system, killing both them and their patients through a lack of funding and resources and profound overwork.

But the malicious ones do exist, and they will go out of their way to harm patients who don't kowtow to them.

I almost lost my life because when I was in my early twenties, I told a doctor I didn't think she was listening to me, and I disagreed with her assessment of my mental health (she was not a mental health doctor, and I was there for heart palpitations and chronic pain). She retaliated by putting "non-compliant" in my file.

There was also a fun little "doesn't show respect" note too that lives rent-free in my head because I know I wasn't rude. I was polite. I just didn't agree with her, and my refusal to accept her off-handed comment that "you probably have bipolar or BPD" (again, I was there for heart palpitations and chronic pain) meant I was "refusing care."

I wasn't. I just refused to be slapped with a mood/personality disorder when I was there because I kept fucking fainting when I stood up.

(Spoiler alert: it was dysautonomia)

That "non-compliant" marker followed me around for years. It followed me across an ocean and effectively ensured that any doctor I saw was going to treat me like absolute dogshit because no one wants to help Difficult Patients. It wasn't until I was so undeniably ill, literally on the brink of death, that anyone helped me.

I'm alive because of a good doctor. And all the good ones that came after him because of him.

So, I know they exist. You don't have to tell me that.

But I really fucking need you to acknowledge the bad ones and that you're part of a system with a long, long history of abusing minorities and vulnerable people. I need you to acknowledge that because it's the only way we're going to survive this godforsaken nightmare and make things better.

So yeah, #notalldoctors, but if you feel the need to say that because someone talking about being literally left to die by the medical system hurts your feelings, I'm going to have to ask you to take a step back and ask yourself if you're going into medicine for the right reasons.

Namely: do you want to help people, even the "difficult" ones?

Even the ones who might disagree with you?

Even if they're on welfare?

Even if they'll never get "better" in a way that means "cured"?

Just a thought. But hey, what do I know. I'm just someone who experienced hemolytic anemia because doctors kept telling me I was anxious and needed to exercise more 🤷‍♀️.

I think the worst thing about this AI craze is that it will make a new generation very stupid. Like yeah learning to code is a skill but if you don't have to learn art or writing principles anymore you realize how damaging that is for a whole generation of kids right? You already hear about people forging essays and shit with AI, even science lit using AI images instead of actual correct studies.

My fear is that this goes hand in hand with the fascism coming out of the woodwork lately. The censoring of the internet, of media, etc. People are deliberately trying to keep you stupid and unable to think for yourself.

Independent bookstores around the country have a particularly clever lifeline, one perfectly suited to the unprecedented moment we find ourselves in. The strange part? It came into being just weeks before the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, and before the bookstores started closing up shop wondering if they’d reopen at all.

The lifeline in question is called Bookshop. 

In simple terms, it’s a super clean, user-friendly online bookstore whose raison d’être is supporting independent bookstores — not simply with exposure or resources (though that’s certainly a factor), but with cold hard cash…

in my mind, a part of why Seven can't move on is because they're grieving the MC like Dexter grieves Emma in "One Day" (example here). and by that i mean, just mentally having conversations with the MC. and not just the MC themself, but like, the MC "when their friendship was still really good" the MC at 13 years old, the MC as a freshly graduated high schooler, (the MC while you two dated if you picked that,) the MC when the band was unbroken and at their peak. and the MC of now just feels like the villain who killed the MCs Seven keeps talking to. and that's not fair, that compartmentalization of MC at different stages of life as different people instead as one whole complex person is a fallacy of an inaccuracy. and yet, i think it is relevant to imagine Seven as haunted by this MC who is not dead

there's something there about the faint memories, about Seven missing their best friend... maybe it'd be better to compare it to the ending of "Stand By Me". because there's no grave, but still Seven aches with the hurt anger of a person who had been excluded from their (romantic/platonic) soulmate's funeral

idk. i just feel like Seven "talks to" MC a lot, like this. just directs their upset towards the MC of now, and Seven only lets the MC That Was that only exists in their mind poke at Sev's MC-shaped wounds. i dont think Seven lets anyone pry that out of them, i think they'd flinch from a therapist and snappily ask their mom to drop it; but this mournful "ghost", who knows what went wrong yet has no fault in it, can unfold Seven. there's just something so tearful about the tragedies between people separated, who still talk to the timeless versions of who people used to be

not me wanting to write about my MC within the new Patreon mini-game, trying to dress up like she's 20, having a panic attack over getting caught sneaking out, eating a bowl of fruit with Seven because she likes eating fresh produce after a lifetime of her parents' serving her TV dinners instead of homemade meals, the version of Kitty Bach that was just learning she could be the stage-persona "Kitty Baby" like a baby deer learns to walk, (the Kitty that was there the night Seven realized their clingniess or their crush was actually full on being in love, Seven's first love? idk why else Seven would have ran away as awkwardly as they did, except for the realization that this wasn't a passing crush Seven could wait out but a newly realized love that Seven wanted to kiss) her eyes still red from crying so much that night— about that "ghost" of her talking to the Seven of now

just innocently playing with Seven's hands and leaning her head on Sev's shoulder and whispering "I've missed you" as Seven shivers with a trembling lower-lip, stumbling to muster up a reply to someone who is only there in Sev's head

People really need to realise that “media can affect real life” doesn’t mean “this character does bad things so people will read that and start doing bad things” and actually means “ideas in fiction especially stereotypes about minority groups can affect how the reader views those groups, an authors implicit prejudices can be passed on to readers”

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

i dont know which way is better for which ships (it probably depends on your MC. i can see this being most popular with the Seven/MC-romancers considering their history so Seven could stare at the billboard, not to mention Soft Violence is a bit more popular so the MC could be the one staring actually — as an example of "idk which way for any ships" but, again, this is not applicable exclusively just Seven-romancers' route by any means. i esp like this because it POSSIBLY explains a few additional things

it explains why Lucifer can contact heaven BUT couldn't/can't go to the meeting with Charlie. Lucifer himself says he was "crushed by [Heaven]", which likely jump-started his Depression. so Lucifer feeling like he deserves hell, ironically because of heaven, could be the one thing keeping him in hell and seperated from his old life and connections that he clearly still has. people from heaven may feel allowed to be in contact with Lucifer for that reason; they don't see it as really sinful to do so, that they still deserve heaven, but just have to be careful. maybe the meetings Lucifer used to go to helped facilitate that (idk how else Lucifer was able to arrange for Charlie to meet with heaven + why the heavenly people he is in contact with haven't been dammed, if not for this theory)

it also explains why Charlie's name isn't in heaven's book. Charlie is by far the most sin-less person in hell. you could argue she cannot go to heaven due to being a citizen of hell. but unlike the imps who were a race created in hell, Charlie was born from a (fallen) angel and a woman who didn't eat the apple of knowledge, tho perhaps the horns and whatnot growing from her parents did change her standing somewhat. but still. she has done nothing sinful. yet Charlie will probably never leave hell, never want to permanently leave it; ergo, her desire to remain with her people as part of hell's government means she can't leave. she can only leave if she wants to. (which, since they showed the book and showed how it clearly didnt say Charlie's name, i think it'd be badass reveal if Charlie did want to leave hell and found her name was in the book NOW; i think that's be a cool way to do that reveal)

it could also? perhaps? explain why we haven't seen Eve? im not Christian nor was i raised to be, but i am American which is a Christian society that has a lot of Christianity in its cultural osmosis; and it feels like every time Eve is brought up, she tends to be blamed and looked down on. maybe the reason why she wasn't at the heavenly courtroom with Adam is because she isn't in heaven; she could be the inverse of Molly being in heaven and Angel being in hell. maybe Eve blames herself and thinks she doesn't deserve heaven after eating the apple, maybe she is in hell. maybe Adam doesn't know this? (or maybe he doesn't care. i think it'd be more interesting if he does care but doesn't know where she is. i can see Adam being dumb enough to think she is still alive on Earth until someone tells him no human can live that long) maybe Eve was killed in an extermination? (that could be a tragic irony if Adam does care about her) or maybe she is with Lilith? something happened in the last 7 years (for both Lilith and Alastor); maybe Lilith found Eve in that time (though, if that's so, idk why Lilith didn't try to find Eve sooner. maybe Lilith didn't know? idk). it's unclear. but it feels like we should have seen Eve in heaven or will see Eve very soon in heaven, assuming im wrong about Eve being in hell because she thinks she deserves hell

of course, assuming Helluva Boss and Hazbin happen in tandem, and not Helluva Boss way later:

there is one piece of proof against this theory in how some cherubs in Helluva Boss were locked out of heaven (and ergo sent to hell? or at least have to now wander the earth? it is unclear) because they technically participated in killing, specifically killing a human (i guess angels killing hellizens for extermination doesn't count). this could still make sense if Helluva Boss happens sometime after Hazbin Hotel, so maybe heaven does have some new standards beyond "they show up and their name is in the book" by that point in the timeline

this cherubs being kicked out scene could also be a meta-uncanonical-moment though? like it did happen in the show, yes, that makes it canon. however, because the whole scene itself was done as a joke very early in the series and Vivzie might have changed her mind after it was already prepped to air (and Vivzie confirmed in a panel that also featured the voice-actors of Helluva Boss that the pilot of Helluva Boss is pretty inaccurate for a reason. she talked to the voice-actors about if Blitz/Stolas should be a real couple AFTER the pilot, and was told "yeah, sure", and so THEN she started working on giving them an actual romance. so that's why the pilot is Like That in regards to Blitz/Stolas' relationship. so there is precedence for this happening within the Helluva universe). it's also just not uncommon in the television industry for early episodes to be considered continuity errors because the world-building/plot hadn't been finalized until way later. so it is possible the cherubs mean nothing because being kicked out of heaven was played for comedy, not lore. i have no idea. Helluva Boss' characters has seemed unconcerned with exterminations, so, again, perhaps Helluva Boss takes place after Hazbin, idk, maybe. could be anything, i guess

regardless, i do love this theory, its the best i have seen so far as to what the standards for getting into heaven could be, A+ work

I think I figured out what makes a soul go to either Heaven or Hell!!

In the latest episode Welcome to Heaven, we see a moment during the trial where Charlie asks Adam what he thinks it takes to get into Heaven. And he doesn’t actually seem to know. He makes a list of what he thinks got him there, but when provided evidence of a demon doing the same thing, defaults you “then why isn’t he here?”.

We realize that NONE of Heaven actually knows what gets someone to Heaven, and the characters acknowledge that angels are free to be as sinful as they want, but they still get to stay.

Which got me thinking, yeah, how did Adam get into Heaven? He’s awful. Then it hit me: he’s there because he thinks he deserves to be. Think of the demons we know. Alastor, Angel, Husker, Cherri, Valentino. These are all people who have done wrong and they know it. If you were to ask them, I think they’d tell you they deserve to be in Hell.

Isn’t it strange? That we’ve never met a demon who thinks there’s been some mistake? That they deserve to be in Heaven and they shouldn’t be in Hell? Hell should be chock full of people like that, but it isn’t.

I think it’s because if you think you deserve to be in Heaven, that’s where you go. And if you think you deserve to go to Hell? That’s where you stay. It explains why Adam is an angel-despite being a horrible person, he’s completely self righteous, even saying “I’ve never made a mistake in my fucking life.” Of course he’d think he deserves to go to Heaven! It’s how Molly went to Heaven and Angel went to hell, despite them leading similar lives-she thought she should go there.

If this is the case, then all the good deeds in the world won’t redeem a sinner. The only thing that will is repairing them and their mental state enough that they truly feel they deserve better. And I’d be fascinated to see how that goes!
