History of Step
What is Stepping?
What is Step?
Stepping or step dancing is “a percussive dance in which the participant’s body is used to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand-claps,” writes the African American Registry.
Step has its origins in Africa, as dancing has been a large part of traditional African culture for centuries.
Calling Step a "bizarre silent dance without music" has to be one of the wilder antiblack racist descriptions I've ever heard of stepping lmao. Anyway if you see the video, it's step!!! They're stepping!! It's a Black American form of dance!!

one thing in particular I hate more than your ordinary run of the mill historically inaccurate costuming in movies (and find far more unsympathetic tbh) is when the leads are dressed to appeal to modern fashions and beauty standards but the the comedic or villainous characters are styled in period accurate clothing to make them look bad or silly by the contrast. like oh okay so we Could have done period clothing. the understanding was there. And Yet.

I've seen "I don't know how to play with toys anymore" a few times lately and just wanted to point out-
Playing with toys looks different for everyone, even actual children!
Playing with toys can look like: 🧸🪁🚂
Taking pictures of your toys and writing captions for them
Brushing or grooming soft toys or toys with rooted hair
Ordering or sorting your toys by colour/species etc
Making up stories, poems or comics about your toys
Dressing or accessorising your toys
Imagining your toys talking to you or each other, forming opinions of their own, etc
Drawing your toys
Taking your toys for a walk outside, even in a backpack or pocket if you don't want to carry them openly
Making lists of the toys you have and where you got them etc
Feel free to add your own ideas

like okay im just going to be real right now. do some of you not understand that children grow into adults? like seriously. because the way some of yall talk about them makes me feel like you think of children as an entirely different species and not people who in 10 years will be expected to function and understand society. were you cloned? do you come from a tube? did you jump out of the artificial womb as a fully formed 25 year old

The concepts of NSFW is being cleared of the Internet under the false pretense of children’s safety when it’s really about the people in power sanitising for advertisers and pushing evangelical narratives AND that not enough is done to keep legitimately harmful content off of spaces that minors have access to are ideas that can coexist

I could on and on about how much I hate when people say “trans men are treated as women” bc it’s very not true. But people will see the statement “trans men aren’t treated as women.” And assume it means “trans men are treated as men.” Instead of “trans men aren’t treated as their gender, they are treated as something other.”

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.
