JUNIOR PROJECT PROGRESS UPDATE
I am currently behind on my Junior project, as attempting to keep up with classes outside of studio has rendered me very tired and stressed- however, I am still pursuing this project. I feel as though I have a very good grasp of toon boom's Storyboard Pro, as I have completed two short animatics with it from my own head- one for my final film, and another for fun. As for storyboarding sequences from movies, I have chosen certain segments from 7 films that I would like to analyze and board, as shown below. I have not boarded all of these sequences, but I have studied them and taken notes on their shot composition, angles, and other elements of cinematography.

I would like to analyze these 7, as I feel boarding these sequences is entirely doable, but as long as I stick to a strict schedule and only do these 7. I would like to do more if I end up getting ahead. 10 is my stretch goal, but these 7 are the ones that I think would provide me with the most effective vehicle for learning. WHY WERE THESE FILMS CHOSEN? AVENGERS: Analyzing a fairly "mainstream" movie that focuses on wide shots, crowd shots, and low angles.
BATMAN: Puts the characters up close to the viewer, which side of the screen the characters are on changes who has control of the conversation.
EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE: A highly complex action sequence, I have no experience boarding this sort of thing and I would like to learn.
FANTASTIC MR. FOX: This film was completely storyboarded beforehand, much like all of Wes Anderson's films, and I thought analyzing the quick cuts, flat angles, and montage-esque sequences would be interesting.
HALLOWEEN: I think the initial POV shot is very interesting and would be a fun challenge to board.
SUSPIRIA: This film is shot in a very claustrophobic way, with a suffocating atmosphere, and an almost warped sense of spatial awareness. I felt as though it would be fascinating to explore via storyboarding.

FINAL FILM PROGRESS UPDATE
My junior film, Hot Gothic is running a bit behind schedule, but I have completed the primary puppets necessary, and have finished all of the technical engineerings I would need to make this film work. As of 3/30/23, I have engineered these paper puppets to be free-standing with the help of magnets and a metal stand, figured out a workable replacement method for heads to limit the number of puppets I would need to make from 16 to 11, three of which are completed, two of which are assembled and need to be painted, leaving 6 to finish up, which will be a quick process now that I have the entire thing figured out. My set is also coming along well, and I can begin filming any scenes that take place outside of my titular "hot gothic" store, in the interior of the mall.

ASSIGNMENT 5 Another week another animation

TASK 4: This week's assignment was creating something based on the reading by Eric Bravo, from How to get an Internship in Animation. I decided to animate a short section from a recording I have with me and a friend, that loosely ties into both a professional project I'd love to work on, and a personal pet project that I've been chipping away at for fun

TASK 3: This weeks animation is based on chapter 3 of Your Career in Animation by David Levy, and is about the constant loop of pitching something, it not being picked up, and then having to pick yourself up and try again!

BLOG POST #2
Our assignment this week was to create an animation based on the first chapter of YOUR CAREER IN ANIMATION by David Levy. I was feeling pretty frustrated this week, personal things were stacking up, assignments are hard- So I wanted to make a short little animation just to vent, while trying some techniques and frame rates I'm not particularly familiar with. It reminded me why I like animation in the first place, as a form of expression.

BLOG POST #1 TREE OF INFLUENCE The assignment this week was to map out a tree of our artistic influences and create a short animation based on those influences- open to interpretation. For my piece, I decided to flip between a couple art styles, showing the morph from my art, to that of craig mccracken, then that of charles schultz. Here is my influences, and those that inspired them
Shoe was influenced by….
Craig McCracken
Jim Henson
Burr Tillstrom
Stan Freburg
Edgar Bergen
Dr. Seuss (He notably was super dodgy with claiming people he thought were influential to him, the only one he ever actually claimed was his mother, the other two are alleged)
Henrietta Seuss Geisel
Lewis Carroll
Salvador Dali
Charles M. Schulz
Milt Caniff
Al Capp
Percy Crosby
