Walk 399: Werai 8km 14/04/2024 "The Tree that stopped the Nation". Alright, just a bit of an exaggeration. only a few bushwalkers. Fortunately, a nearby resident came to help out after Mark's efforts at dragging it out of the way were unsuccessful. Not an uncommon occurrence it turns out - apparently even their cleaner carries a chainsaw. A good turnout for a lovely crisp autumn walk. Walk 398: 40Ft Falls 7km 07/04/2024 It was the highest we've seen the creek and the noise of the waterfall was quite deafening. Very spectacular! Truly a beautiful autumn day to be out walking in the bush. Mark, Andy, Janet, Sandy, Mike, Pete, Em, Marg, Kev, Cash & Penny

Walk 397: Maryanne 6km 31/3/2024 Rating: although only 2 of us a solid 5 boots! Mark and I decided that 2 of us constituted a quorum, so the walk is getting an official blog. We were in the Bega valley south of Candelo and hoping to make it a regular away walk. The addition of a forest section and creek crossing will lift this spectacular 5 boot walk to an "hors categorie" in tour de France parlance.

Walk 396: Spring Hill exploratory 12km 3/3/2024 Mark, Em and I accompanied by 3 enthusiastic somewhat overzealous dogs set off down Spring Hill fire trail in search of a side track to the west that would lead us down into the valley. The idea being that we could do an overnight hike, camping beside the river and hiking up the north face of Jellore the following day and down the usual route. I guess that's still the idea, but we didn't find a route into the valley. yet. It did provide Mark with the opportunity to unleash his panga (machete to the rest of you) and after some bushbashing, the humans' enthusiasm evapourated fairly rapidly. And we had morning tea instead. And forgot to take the group photo. We did feel somewhat heartened with the small victory and most unusual sight of 3 tired dogs. Mind you, the human were substantially more weary. Mark, Em, Marg, Cash, Pen & Kev

Walk 394: Wombat Hill Lookout 11km 18/02/2024 Another beautiful Highlands bushwalk, and always worth a visit. The only drawback being explaining to Cash, Penny and Kev that they couldn't come.. And after a fast paced, sweaty bushwalk - sheer heaven submerging in the refreshing swimming hole on our way home. And excellent Sunday morning indeed! Mark, Marg, Mike, Em & Sandy

Walk 393: Jellore Flora Reserve Circuit 7km 11/02/2024 A fine turnout of humans and canines, not deterred by the rather late start to our bushwalking year. It's wonderful to see the new work by National Parks. Sign posts, track management, picnic tables.. Soon the track to Little Jellore will be clearly marked providing more recreational options for folk visiting the area. Walk 392: Springhill partial 7.5km 07/01/2024 Well, our first walk for 2024. Can't believe the passage of time. Now into our 10th year of SHITS. Always a lovely walk and a decent amount of hill work for our Tassie preparation. So Sandy requested a repeat for next week. Sandy, Mike, Barbara, Pete, Marg, Kevin & Penny

Walk 391: Boxvale again! 5 & 9km 10/12/2023 Our Christmas walk, and unfortunately we don't have a photo of the delicious spread. A happy celebration as we look forward to the festive season. But drama was to follow as Penny didn't return from a stint with Cash chasing roos near Morris Road. (unlike the previous week where everyone behaved impeccably). Fortunately all ended well, after an amazing team effort, with Em, Sandy, Mark, Joseph, Karl & me all searching for her in relays. The final game changer was someone's suggestion on Pete's Facebook post that we leave some clothing with our scent out there. So on Sunday night we left a tee shirt and pillow case. The next morning when we arrived at Morris Road, one of the road crew asked if we were looking for a dog. They had found her curled up on our clothing, but being Penny, she wouldn't let them approach her to look at her tag. A very joyous reunion ensued! Walk 390: Boxvale 5km & 9km 3/12/2023 Definitely a case of every woman and her dog(s). The man came without his.. I think our canine members must have put the hard word on all their owners because we had a 10 dog turnout. - with not a single misplaced paw. Even more surprising was that Penny, Cash and Petra peacefully complied with Rule no.1 "Please stay with the pack all of the time". It's been a while since we did Boxvale and it really is a charming walk. Walk 389: Little River 8Km 26/11/2023 Mark and Mike set off following only some lines on a map and a suspicion of where they may lead. Mark did not do a very good job of checking the contours so a walk that he (I ) described as quite flat was anything but flat. However the end point was a lovely little river, very swimmable and very pretty.  We will go there again but if be prepared for some serious hills. Lovely walk - about 8 km

Walk 388: Gunrock Creek 05/11/2023 Unfortunately I don't have much to say about it as Kevin and I were late withdrawals, choosing to go the the vet instead. (pinched nerve in her neck) I think there was a bit of swimming happening as the day was hot, but apparently the water was distinctly chilly. Walk 387: Gibbergunyah 5km? 05/11/23 Definitely a dogs day out! And they certainly enjoyed it. Isla lived up to her reputation of the most joyous canine member. And Skipper found her enthusiasm contagious. Janet, Sandy, Peter, Ferial, Marg, Cash, Skipper, Leuca, Isla, Penny & Kevin

Walk 386: Seabrook Fire Trail 9km 05/11/23 As there were only 2 of us I took the opportunity to investigate a new walk which I have previously only seen on a map. We started near Hilltop  and walked along Seabrook Fire Trail . I don’t have all the details due to GPS hiccup but we walked as far as Moore Creek - about 4 km which was a lovely rest spot . We turned back there because we had started quite late but there is definitely an opportunity to walk on to Little River. The return was much steeper going up than it had seemed coming down - Mike suggested that there had been some tectonic shift and it was hard to refute. What I would call a “nice” walk. Good underfoot, good exercise although not one of the spectacular walks we have along ridges etc. Definitely worth a return visit. Mark & Mike

Walk 387: Gibbergunyah 6km Rating: 6 Joyous dogs 05/11/2023 Welcome to Ferial and Skipper! The initial hill seemed longer than I remember.. hmm.. Always, a pleasant place and such a gem tucked between Bowral and Mittagong. The dogs exhibited a high level of enthusiasm, and Isla in particular enjoyed Skipper's company. Walk 384: Forty Foot Falls 15/10/23 On a gorgeous Spring Morning, Mark, Leeonie, Martin and April took what was more of a stroll than a hike along the Boxvale track and then down to the top of 40 Foot Falls. A slight diversion from our usual route pushing the distance up by about a kilometre. Although the bush is still pretty thick and green the rivers are well down. There is much less water going over the falls and crossing the river on the fire trail on the way back showed it was barely flowing. Thoroughly enjoyed by the 4 of us and 2 dogs.

Walk 385: Spring Hill 13.6km 22/10/23 No group photo today as it was just Mark, me and the girls. As it was just the 2 of us Mark kindly suggested that we do my favourite walk rather than Rocky Waterholes, which Kevin Penny and I accepted with alacrity. It's one of our more challenging walks, with lovely views, excellent morning tea spot and provides a thorough workout.
