“Ustadh, how can I make sure my kid grows up islamic?”
Ustadh: “Stop scaring your 5-year old into believing that if they don’t do something Allah will be unhappy. Stop saying, ‘If you don’t finish your food, shaytaan is going to be happy.’ Stop bringing Allah and shaytaan into your arguments, you know why? Because kids are sinless. Hey, kids, listen up! Allah isn’t going to be unhappy with you, your mom is. Parents, this... go read a parenting book. This isn’t a question of Islam. You need to learn to be a parent. We grow up fearing Allah and it is hard to respect or love someone you fear. All you need to focus on to make sure they grow up “islamic” is to teach them Allah is love. Allah is kind. Allah is merciful. You know what happens nowadays? Our kids hear these stories about prophets whose nations were distroyed—the story of Lut, the story of Musa, the story of Nuh and they grow up thinking, ‘Boy, prophets sure get a lot of people killed.’ They have no sense of what really happened; they are so focused on the wrath and fear. It has to change.”

O Allah, guide me in the best of conduct for none but Thee guideth anyone (in) good conduct. Remove sins from me, for none else but Thou can remove sins from me.
